[1] Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the children of Israel, saying, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded. [2] When a man vows a vow to Yahweh, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. [3] “Also, when a woman vows a vow to Yahweh and binds herself by a pledge, being in her father’s house, in her youth, [4] and her father hears her vow and her pledge with which she has bound her soul, and her father says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge with which she has bound her soul shall stand. [5] But if her father forbids her in the day that he hears, none of her vows or of her pledges with which she has bound her soul, shall stand. Yahweh will forgive her, because her father has forbidden her. [6] “If she has a husband, while her vows are on her, or the rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound her soul, [7] and her husband hears it, and says nothing to her in the day that he hears it; then her vows shall stand, and her pledges with which she has bound her soul shall stand. [8] But if her husband forbids her in the day that he hears it, then he makes void her vow which is on her and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul. Yahweh will forgive her. [9] “But the vow of a widow, or of her who is divorced, everything with which she has bound her soul shall stand against her. [10] “If she vowed in her husband’s house or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, [11] and her husband heard it, and held his peace at her and didn’t disallow her, then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge with which she bound her soul shall stand. [12] But if her husband made them null and void in the day that he heard them, then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand. Her husband has made them void. Yahweh will forgive her. [13] Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. [14] But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he establishes all her vows or all her pledges which are on her. He has established them, because he said nothing to her in the day that he heard them. [15] But if he makes them null and void after he has heard them, then he shall bear her iniquity.” [16] These are the statutes which Yahweh commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, being in her youth, in her father’s house.

[1] And MosesH4872 spakeH1696(PielImpf) unto the headsH7218 of the tribesH4294 concerning the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 saying,H559(QalInf) This [is] the thingH1697 which the LordH3068 hath commanded.H6680(PielPerf) [2] If a manH376 vowH5087(QalImpf) a vowH5088 unto the Lord,H3068 or swearH7650(NiphInf) an oathH7621 to bindH631(QalInf) his soulH5315 with a bond;H632 he shall not breakH2490(HiphImpf) his word,H1697 he shall doH6213(QalImpf) according to all that proceedethH3318(QalActPtc) out of his mouth.H6310 [3] If a womanH802 also vowH5087(QalImpf) a vowH5088 unto the Lord,H3068 and bindH631(QalPerf) herself by a bond,H632 [being] in her father’sH1 houseH1004 in her youth;H5271 [4] And her fatherH1 hearH8085(QalPerf) her vow,H5088 and her bondH632 wherewith she hath boundH631(QalPerf) her soul,H5315 and her fatherH1 shall hold his peaceH2790(HiphPerf) at her: then all her vowsH5088 shall stand,H6965(QalPerf) and every bondH632 wherewith she hath boundH631(QalPerf) her soulH5315 shall stand.H6965(QalImpf) [5] But if her fatherH1 disallowH5106(HiphPerf) her in the dayH3117 that he heareth;H8085(QalInf) not any of her vows,H5088 or of her bondsH632 wherewith she hath boundH631(QalPerf) her soul,H5315 shall stand:H6965(QalImpf) and the LordH3068 shall forgiveH5545(QalImpf) her, because her fatherH1 disallowedH5106(HiphPerf) her. [6] And if she had at all an husband,H376 when she vowed,H5088 or utteredH4008 ought out of her lips,H8193 wherewith she boundH631(QalPerf) her soul;H5315 [7] And her husbandH376 heardH8085(QalPerf) [it,] and held his peaceH2790(HiphPerf) at her in the dayH3117 that he heardH8085(QalInf) [it]: then her vowsH5088 shall stand,H6965(QalPerf) and her bondsH632 wherewith she boundH631(QalPerf) her soulH5315 shall stand.H6965(QalImpf) [8] But if her husbandH376 disallowedH5106(HiphImpf) her on the dayH3117 that he heardH8085(QalInf) [it]; then he shall make her vow which she vowed,H5088 and that which she utteredH4008 with her lips,H8193 wherewith she boundH631(QalPerf) her soul,H5315 of none effect:H6565(HiphPerf) and the LordH3068 shall forgiveH5545(QalImpf) her. [9] But every vowH5088 of a widow,H490 and of her that is divorced,H1644(QalPasPtc) wherewith they have boundH631(QalPerf) their souls,H5315 shall standH6965(QalImpf) against her. [10] And if she vowedH5087(QalPerf) in her husband’sH376 house,H1004 or boundH631(QalPerf) her soulH5315 by a bondH632 with an oath;H7621 [11] And her husbandH376 heardH8085(QalPerf) [it], and held his peaceH2790(HiphPerf) at her, [and] disallowedH5106(HiphPerf) her not: then all her vowsH5088 shall stand,H6965(QalImpf) and every bondH632 wherewith she boundH631(QalPerf) her soulH5315 shall stand.H6965(QalPerf) [12] But if her husbandH376 hath utterlyH6565(HiphInf) made them voidH6565(HiphImpf) on the dayH3117 he heardH8085(QalInf) [them; then] whatsoever proceededH4161 out of her lipsH8193 concerning her vows,H5088 or concerning the bondH632 of her soul,H5315 shall not stand:H6965(QalImpf) her husbandH376 hath made them void;H6565(HiphPerf) and the LordH3068 shall forgiveH5545(QalImpf) her. [13] Every vow,H5088 and every bindingH632 oathH7621 to afflictH6031(PielInf) the soul,H5315 her husbandH376 may establishH6965(HiphImpf) it, or her husbandH376 may make it void.H6565(HiphImpf) [14] But if her husbandH376 altogetherH2790(HiphInf) hold his peaceH2790(HiphImpf) at her from dayH3117 to day;H3117 then he establishethH6965(HiphPerf) all her vows,H5088 or all her bonds,H632 which [are] upon her: he confirmethH6965(HiphPerf) them, because he held his peaceH2790(HiphPerf) at her in the dayH3117 that he heardH8085(QalInf) [them]. [15] But if he shall any waysH6565(HiphInf) make them voidH6565(HiphImpf) afterH310 that he hath heardH8085(QalInf) [them]; then he shall bearH5375(QalPerf) her iniquity.H5771 [16] These [are] the statutes,H2706 which the LordH3068 commandedH6680(PielPerf) Moses,H4872 between a manH376 and his wife,H802 between the fatherH1 and his daughter,H1323 [being yet] in her youthH5271 in her father’sH1 house.H1004
