^[1] The heads of the fathers’ households of the family of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the princes, the heads of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel. ^[2] They said, “Yahweh commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the children of Israel. My lord was commanded by Yahweh to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters. ^[3] If they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they shall belong. So it will be taken away from the lot of our inheritance. ^[4] When the jubilee of the children of Israel comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they shall belong. So their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.” ^[5] Moses commanded the children of Israel according to Yahweh’s word, saying, “The tribe of the sons of Joseph speak what is right. ^[6] This is the thing which Yahweh commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, ‘Let them be married to whom they think best, only they shall marry into the family of the tribe of their father. ^[7] So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel move from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall all keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. ^[8] Every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers. ^[9] So shall no inheritance move from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall each keep his own inheritance.’ ” ^[10] The daughters of Zelophehad did as Yahweh commanded Moses: ^[11] for Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married to their father’s brothers’ sons. ^[12] They were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph. Their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father. ^[13] These are the commandments and the ordinances which Yahweh commanded by Moses to the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.

^[1] And the chiefH7218 fathersH1 of the familiesH4940 of the childrenH1121 of Gilead,H1568 the sonH1121 of Machir,H4353 the sonH1121 of Manasseh,H4519 of the familiesH4940 of the sonsH1121 of Joseph,H3130 came near,H7126(QalImpf) and spakeH1696(PielImpf) beforeH6440 Moses,H4872 and beforeH6440 the princes,H5387 the chiefH7218 fathersH1 of the childrenH1121 of Israel:H3478 ^[2] And they said,H559(QalImpf) The LordH3068 commandedH6680(PielPerf) my lordH113 to giveH5414(QalInf) the landH776 for an inheritanceH5159 by lotH1486 to the childrenH1121 of Israel:H3478 and my lordH113 was commandedH6680(PualPerf) by the LordH3068 to giveH5414(QalInf) the inheritanceH5159 of ZelophehadH6765 our brotherH251 unto his daughters.H1323 ^[3] And if they be marriedH802 to anyH259 of the sonsH1121 of the [other] tribesH7626 of the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 then shall their inheritanceH5159 be takenH1639(NiphPerf) from the inheritanceH5159 of our fathers,H1 and shall be putH3254(NiphPerf) to the inheritanceH5159 of the tribeH4294 whereunto they are received: so shall it be takenH1639(NiphImpf) from the lotH1486 of our inheritance.H5159 ^[4] And when the jubileH3104 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 shall be, then shall their inheritanceH5159 be putH3254(NiphPerf) unto the inheritanceH5159 of the tribeH4294 whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritanceH5159 be taken awayH1639(NiphImpf) from the inheritanceH5159 of the tribeH4294 of our fathers.H1 ^[5] And MosesH4872 commandedH6680(PielImpf) the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 according to the wordH6310 of the Lord,H3068 saying,H559(QalInf) The tribeH4294 of the sonsH1121 of JosephH3130 hath saidH1696(QalActPtc) well. ^[6] This [is] the thingH1697 which the LordH3068 doth commandH6680(PielPerf) concerning the daughtersH1323 of Zelophehad,H6765 saying,H559(QalInf) Let them marryH802 to whom they thinkH5869 best;H2896 only to the familyH4940 of the tribeH4294 of their fatherH1 shall they marry.H802 ^[7] So shall not the inheritanceH5159 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 removeH5437(NiphImpf) from tribeH4294 to tribe:H4294 for every oneH376 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 shall keepH1692(QalImpf) himself to the inheritanceH5159 of the tribeH4294 of his fathers.H1 ^[8] And every daughter,H1323 that possessethH3423(QalActPtc) an inheritanceH5159 in any tribeH4294 of the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 shall be wifeH802 unto oneH259 of the familyH4940 of the tribeH4294 of her father,H1 that the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 may enjoyH3423(QalImpf) every manH376 the inheritanceH5159 of his fathers.H1 ^[9] Neither shall the inheritanceH5159 removeH5437(NiphImpf) from [one] tribeH4294 to anotherH312 tribe;H4294 but every oneH376 of the tribesH4294 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 shall keepH1692(QalImpf) himself to his own inheritance.H5159 ^[10] Even as the LordH3068 commandedH6680(PielPerf) Moses,H4872 so didH6213(QalPerf) the daughtersH1323 of Zelophehad:H6765 ^[11] For Mahlah,H4244 Tirzah,H8656 and Hoglah,H2295 and Milcah,H4435 and Noah,H5270 the daughtersH1323 of Zelophehad,H6765 were marriedH802 unto their father’sH1730 brothers’ sons:H1121 ^[12] [And] they were marriedH802 into the familiesH4940 of the sonsH1121 of ManassehH4519 the sonH1121 of Joseph,H3130 and their inheritanceH5159 remained in the tribeH4294 of the familyH4940 of their father.H1 ^[13] These [are] the commandmentsH4687 and the judgments,H4941 which the LordH3068 commandedH6680(PielPerf) by the handH3027 of MosesH4872 unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 in the plainsH6160 of MoabH4124 by JordanH3383 [near] Jericho.H3405
