[1] I ask then, did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. [2] God didn’t reject his people, whom he foreknew. Or don’t you know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel: [3] “Lord, they have killed your prophets. They have broken down your altars. I am left alone, and they seek my life.” [4] But how does God answer him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” [5] Even so too at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. [6] And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. [7] What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn’t obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened. [8] According as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day.” [9] David says,
“Let their table be made a snare, a trap,
a stumbling block, and a retribution to them.
[10] Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see.
Always keep their backs bent.”
[11] I ask then, did they stumble that they might fall? May it never be! But by their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy. [12] Now if their fall is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! [13] For I speak to you who are Gentiles. Since then as I am an apostle to Gentiles, I glorify my ministry, [14] if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh, and may save some of them. [15] For if the rejection of them is the reconciling of the world, what would their acceptance be, but life from the dead? [16] If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches. [17] But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the root and of the richness of the olive tree, [18] don’t boast over the branches. But if you boast, remember that it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you. [19] You will say then, “Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.” [20] True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear; [21] for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. [22] See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off. [23] They also, if they don’t continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. [24] For if you were cut out of that which is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? [25] For I don’t desire you to be ignorant, brothers,§ of this mystery, so that you won’t be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in, [26] and so all Israel will be saved. Even as it is written,
“There will come out of Zion the Deliverer,
and he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
[27] This is my covenant with them,
when I will take away their sins.”
[28] Concerning the Good News, they are enemies for your sake. But concerning the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sake. [29] For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. [30] For as you in time past were disobedient to God, but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience, [31] even so these also have now been disobedient, that by the mercy shown to you they may also obtain mercy. [32] For God has bound all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all. [33] Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!
[34] “For who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
[35] “Or who has first given to him,
and it will be repaid to him again?”
[36] For of him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen.

wert graffed inG1461(AorPasInd) amongG1722 them,G846 andG2532 withG4791 themG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) partakestG4791 of the rootG4491 andG2532 fatnessG4096 of the olive tree;G1636 [18] BoastG2620 notG3361 againstG2620(PresMidPasDepImpr) the branches.G2798 ButG1161 ifG1487 thou boast,G2620(PresMidPasDepInd) thouG4771 bearestG941(PresActInd) notG3756 the root,G4491 butG235 the rootG4491 thee.G4571 [19] Thou wilt sayG2046(FutActInd) then,G3767 The branchesG2798 were broken off,G1575(AorPasInd) thatG2443 IG1473 might be graffed in.G1461(AorPasSubj) [20] Well;G2573 because of unbeliefG570 they were broken off,G1575(AorPasInd) andG1161 thouG4771 standestG2476(PerfActInd) by faith.G4102 BeG5309 notG3361 highminded,G5309(PresActImpr) butG235 fear:G5399(PresMidPasDepImpr) [21] ForG1063 ifG1487 GodG2316 sparedG5339(AorMidDepInd) notG3756 the naturalG5449 branches,G2798 [take heed] lestG4458 heG5339 alsoG3381 spareG5339(AorMidDepSubj) notG3761 thee.G4675 [22] BeholdG1492(AorActImpr) thereforeG3767 the goodnessG5544 andG2532 severityG663 of God:G2316 onG1909 them which fell,G4098(Aor2ActPtc) severity;G663 butG1161 towardG1909 thee,G4571 goodness,G5544 ifG1437 thou continueG1961(AorActSubj) in [his] goodness:G5544 otherwiseG1893 thouG4771 alsoG2532 shalt be cut off.G1581(Fut2PasInd) [23] AndG1161 theyG1565 also,G2532 ifG3362 they abideG1961(AorActSubj) notG3362 still in unbelief,G570 shall be graffed in:G1461(FutPasInd) forG1063 GodG2316 isG2076(PresInd) ableG1415 to graffG1461 themG846 inG1461(AorActInf) again.G3825 [24] ForG1063 ifG1487 thouG4771 wert cutG1581(Aor2PasDepSubj) out ofG1537 the olive tree which is wildG65 byG2596 nature,G5449 andG2532 wert graffedG1461(AorPasInd) contrary toG3844 natureG5449 intoG1519 a good olive tree:G2565 how muchG4214 moreG3123 shall these,G3778 which be the naturalG2596 [branches], be graffed intoG1461(FutPasInd) their ownG2398 olive tree?G1636 [25] ForG1063 I wouldG2309(PresActInd) not,G3756 brethren,G80 that yeG5209 should be ignorantG50(PresActInf) of thisG5124 mystery,G3466 lestG3363 ye should beG5600(PresSubj) wiseG5429 inG3844 your own conceits;G1438 thatG3754 blindnessG4457 inG575 partG3313 is happenedG1096(Perf2ActInd) to Israel,G2474 untilG891 the fulnessG4138 of the GentilesG1484 be come in.G1525(Aor2ActSubj) [26] AndG2532 soG3779 allG3956 IsraelG2474 shall be saved:G4982(FutPasInd) asG2531 it is written,G1125(PerfPasInd) There shall comeG2240(FutActInd) out ofG1537 SionG4622 the Deliverer,G4506(PresMidPasDepPtc) andG2532 shall turn awayG654(FutActInd) ungodlinessG763 fromG575 Jacob:G2384 [27] ForG2532 thisG3778 [is] myG3844 covenantG1242 unto them,G846 whenG3752 I shall take awayG851(Aor2MidSubj) theirG846 sins.G266 [28] As concerningG2596 the gospel,G2098 [they are] enemiesG2190 for your sakes:G1223 butG1161 as touchingG2596 the election,G1589 [they are] belovedG27 forG1223 the fathers’G3962 sakes.G1223 [29] ForG1063 the giftsG5486 andG2532 callingG2821 of GodG2316 [are] without repentance.G278 [30] ForG1063 asG5618 yeG5210 in times pastG4218 have not believedG544(AorActInd) God,G2316 yetG1161 haveG1653 nowG3568 obtained mercyG1653(AorPasInd) throughG5130 their unbelief:G543 [31] Even soG3779 haveG544 theseG3778 alsoG2532 nowG3568 not believed,G544(AorActInd) thatG2443 through yourG5212 mercyG1656 theyG846 alsoG2532 may obtain mercy.G1653(AorPasSubj) [32] ForG1063 GodG2316 hath concludedG4788(AorActInd) them allG3956 inG1519 unbelief,G543 thatG2443 he might have mercyG1653(AorActSubj) upon all.G3956 [33] OG5599 the depthG899 of the richesG4149 bothG2532 of the wisdomG4678 andG2532 knowledgeG1108 of God!G2316 howG5613 unsearchableG419 [are] hisG846 judgments,G2917 andG2532 hisG846 waysG3598 past finding out!G421 [34] ForG1063 whoG5101 hath knownG1097(Aor2ActInd) the mindG3563 of the Lord?G2962 orG2228 whoG5101 hath beenG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) hisG846 counsellor?G4825 [35] OrG2228 whoG5101 hath first givenG4272(AorActInd) to him,G846 andG2532 it shall be recompensedG467 unto himG846 again?G467(FutPasInd) [36] ForG3754 ofG1537 him,G846 andG2532 throughG1223 him,G846 andG2532 toG1519 him,G846 [are] all things:G3956 to whomG846 [be] gloryG1391 forG1519 ever.G165 Amen.G281
