[1] Naomi had a relative of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz. [2] Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I find favor.”She said to her, “Go, my daughter.” [3] She went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. [4] Behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “May Yahweh be with you.”They answered him, “May Yahweh bless you.” [5] Then Boaz said to his servant who was set over the reapers, “Whose young lady is this?” [6] The servant who was set over the reapers answered, “It is the Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab. [7] She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.” [8] Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Don’t go to glean in another field, and don’t go from here, but stay here close to my maidens. [9] Let your eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them. Haven’t I commanded the young men not to touch you? When you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from that which the young men have drawn.” [10] Then she fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your sight, that you should take knowledge of me, since I am a foreigner?” [11] Boaz answered her, “I have been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father, your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people that you didn’t know before. [12] May Yahweh repay your work, and a full reward be given to you from Yahweh, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” [13] Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me, and because you have spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not as one of your servants.” [14] At meal time Boaz said to her, “Come here, and eat some bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.”She sat beside the reapers, and they passed her parched grain. She ate, was satisfied, and left some of it. [15] When she had risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and don’t reproach her. [16] Also pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it. Let her glean, and don’t rebuke her.” [17] So she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephahⓘ of barley. [18] She took it up, and went into the city. Then her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her that which she had left after she had enough. [19] Her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.”She told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.” [20] Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by Yahweh, who has not abandoned his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her, “The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen.” [21] Ruth the Moabitess said, “Yes, he said to me, ‘You shall stay close to my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’ ” [22] Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, and that they not meet you in any other field.” [23] So she stayed close to the maidens of Boaz, to glean to the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she lived with her mother-in-law.

And they answeredH559(QalImpf) him, The LordH3068 blessH1288(PielImpf) thee. [5] Then saidH559(QalImpf) BoazH1162 unto his servantH5288 that was setH5324(NiphPtc) over the reapers,H7114(QalActPtc) Whose damselH5291 [is] this? [6] And the servantH5288 that was setH5324(NiphPtc) over the reapersH7114(QalActPtc) answeredH6030(QalImpf) and said,H559(QalImpf) It [is] the MoabitishH4125 damselH5291 that came backH7725(QalPerf) with NaomiH5281 out of the countryH7704 of Moab:H4124 [7] And she said,H559(QalImpf) I pray you, let me gleanH3950(PielImpf) and gatherH622(QalPerf) afterH310 the reapersH7114(QalActPtc) among the sheaves:H6016 so she came,H935(QalImpf) and hath continuedH5975(QalImpf) evenH227 from the morningH1242 until now, that she tarriedH3427(QalInf) a littleH4592 in the house.H1004 [8] Then saidH559(QalImpf) BoazH1162 unto Ruth,H7327 HearestH8085(QalPerf) thou not, my daughter?H1323 GoH3212(QalImpf) not to gleanH3950(QalInf) in anotherH312 field,H7704 neither goH5674(QalImpf) from hence, but abideH1692(QalImpf) here fast by my maidens:H5291 [9] [Let] thine eyesH5869 [be] on the fieldH7704 that they do reap,H7114(QalImpf) and goH1980(QalPerf) thou afterH310 them: have I not chargedH6680(PielPerf) the young menH5288 that they shall not touchH5060(QalInf) thee? and when thou art athirst,H6770(QalPerf) goH1980(QalPerf) unto the vessels,H3627 and drinkH8354(QalPerf) of [that] which the young menH5288 have drawn.H7579(QalImpf) [10] Then she fellH5307(QalImpf) on her face,H6440 and bowedH7812(HithImpf) herself to the ground,H776 and saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, Why have I foundH4672(QalPerf) graceH2580 in thine eyes,H5869 that thou shouldest take knowledgeH5234(HiphInf) of me, seeing I [am] a stranger?H5237 [11] And BoazH1162 answeredH6030(QalImpf) and saidH559(QalImpf) unto her, It hath fullyH5046(HophInf) been shewedH5046(HophPerf) me, all that thou hast doneH6213(QalPerf) unto thy mother in lawH2545 sinceH310 the deathH4194 of thine husband:H376 and [how] thou hast leftH5800(QalImpf) thy fatherH1 and thy mother,H517 and the landH776 of thy nativity,H4138 and art comeH3212(QalImpf) unto a peopleH5971 which thou knewestH3045(QalPerf) not heretofore.H8543 [12] The LordH3068 recompenseH7999(PielImpf) thy work,H6467 and a fullH8003 rewardH4909 be given thee of the LordH3068 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 under whose wingsH3671 thou art comeH935(QalPerf) to trust.H2620(QalInf) [13] Then she said,H559(QalImpf) Let me findH4672(QalImpf) favourH2580 in thy sight,H5869 my lord;H113 for that thou hast comfortedH5162(PielPerf) me, and for that thou hast spokenH1696(PielPerf) friendlyH3820 unto thine handmaid,H8198 though I be not like unto oneH259 of thine handmaidens.H8198 [14] And BoazH1162 saidH559(QalImpf) unto her, At mealtimeH6256 comeH5066(QalImpv) thou hither,H1988 and eatH398(QalPerf) of the bread,H3899 and dipH2881(QalPerf) thy morselH6595 in the vinegar.H2558 And she satH3427(QalImpf) besideH6654 the reapers:H7114(QalActPtc) and he reachedH6642(QalImpf) her parchedH7039 [corn], and she did eat,H398(QalImpf) and was sufficed,H7646(QalImpf) and left.H3498(HiphImpf) [15] And when she was risen upH6965(QalImpf) to glean,H3950(PielInf) BoazH1162 commandedH6680(PielImpf) his young men,H5288 saying,H559(QalInf) Let her gleanH3950(PielImpf) even among the sheaves,H6016 and reproachH3637(HiphImpf) her not: [16] And let fallH7997(QalImpf) also [some] of the handfulsH6653 of purposeH7997(QalInf) for her, and leaveH5800(QalPerf) [them], that she may gleanH3950(PielPerf) [them], and rebukeH1605(QalImpf) her not. [17] So she gleanedH3950(PielImpf) in the fieldH7704 until even,H6153 and beat outH2251(QalImpf) that she had gleaned:H3950(PielPerf) and it was about an ephahH374 of barley.H8184 [18] And she took [it] up,H5375(QalImpf) and wentH935(QalImpf) into the city:H5892 and her mother in lawH2545 sawH7200(QalImpf) what she had gleaned:H3950(PielPerf) and she brought forth,H3318(HiphImpf) and gaveH5414(QalImpf) to her that she had reservedH3498(HiphPerf) after she was sufficed.H7648 [19] And her mother in lawH2545 saidH559(QalImpf) unto her, Where hast thou gleanedH3950(PielPerf) to day?H3117 and whereH375 wroughtestH6213(QalPerf) thou? blessedH1288(QalPasPtc) be he that did take knowledgeH5234(HiphPtc) of thee. And she shewedH5046(HiphImpf) her mother in lawH2545 with whom she had wrought,H6213(QalPerf) and said,H559(QalImpf) The man’sH376 nameH8034 with whom I wroughtH6213(QalPerf) to dayH3117 [is] Boaz.H1162 [20] And NaomiH5281 saidH559(QalImpf) unto her daughter in law,H3618 BlessedH1288(QalPasPtc) [be] he of the Lord,H3068 who hath not left offH5800(QalPerf) his kindnessH2617 to the livingH2416 and to the dead.H4191(QalPtc) And NaomiH5281 saidH559(QalImpf) unto her, The manH376 [is] near of kinH7138 unto us, one of our next kinsmen.H1350(QalActPtc) [21] And RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125 said,H559(QalImpf) He saidH559(QalPerf) unto me also, Thou shalt keep fastH1692(QalImpf) by my young men,H5288 until they have endedH3615(PielPerf) all my harvest.H7105 [22] And NaomiH5281 saidH559(QalImpf) unto RuthH7327 her daughter in law,H3618 [It is] good,H2896 my daughter,H1323 that thou go outH3318(QalImpf) with his maidens,H5291 that they meetH6293(QalImpf) thee not in any otherH312 field.H7704 [23] So she kept fastH1692(QalImpf) by the maidensH5291 of BoazH1162 to gleanH3950(PielInf) unto the endH3615(QalInf) of barleyH8184 harvestH7105 and of wheatH2406 harvest;H7105 and dweltH3427(QalImpf) with her mother in law.H2545
