“I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards, and the swarming locusts have devoured your fig trees and your olive trees; yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

For the day of Yahweh is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.

Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”

Who knoweth? He doth turn back, and God hath repented, and hath turned back from the heat of His anger, and we do not perish.’

God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

In that day doth one take up for you a simile, And he hath wailed a wailing of woe, He hath said, We have been utterly spoiled, The portion of my people He doth change, How doth He move toward me! To the backslider our fields He apportioneth.

But lately my people have risen up as an enemy. You strip the robe and clothing from those who pass by without a care, returning from battle.

And yesterday My people for an enemy doth raise himself up, From the outer garment the honourable ornament ye strip off, From the confident passers by, Ye who are turning back from war.

I will stand at my watch and set myself on the ramparts, and will look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.

Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

Ye shall not be as your fathers, To whom the former prophets called, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Turn back I pray you, From your evil ways and from your evil doings, And they did not hearken, Nor attend to Me-an affirmation of Jehovah.

But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’ ”

Then again I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll.

And I turn back, and lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a flying roll.

Again I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, four chariots came out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of bronze.

And I turned, H7725 (QalImpf) and lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) mine eyes, H5869 and looked, H7200 (QalImpf) and, behold, there came H3318 four H702 chariots H4818 out H3318 (QalActPtc) from between two H8147 mountains; H2022 and the mountains H2022 [were] mountains H2022 of brass. H5178

And I turn back, and lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four chariots are coming forth from between two of the mountains, and the mountains are mountains of brass.

“but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.”

But I scattered them with a whirlwind H5590 (PielImpf) among all the nations H1471 whom they knew H3045 (QalPerf) not. And I toss them on all the nations, That they have not known, The land hath been desolate behind them, Of any passing by and turning back, And they set a desirable land for a desolation!

Yahweh says: “I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth;’ and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, ‘The Holy Mountain.’ ”

Thus said Jehovah: I have turned back unto Zion, And I have dwelt in the midst of Jerusalem, And Jerusalem hath been called ‘The city of truth,’ And the mountain of Jehovah of Hosts, ‘The holy mountain.’

so again I have thought in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Don’t be afraid.

So again H7725 (QalPerf) have I thought H2161 (QalPerf) in these days H3117 to do well H3190 (HiphInf) unto Jerusalem H3389 and to the house H1004 of Judah: H3063 fear H3372 (QalImpf) ye not.

So I have turned back, I have purposed, in these days, To do good with Jerusalem, And with the house of Judah-fear not!

I will encamp around my house against the army, that no one pass through or return; and no oppressor will pass through them any more: for now I have seen with my eyes.

And I will encamp H2583 (QalPerf) about mine house H1004 because of the army, H4675 because of him that passeth by, H5674 (QalActPtc) and because of him that returneth: H7725 (QalActPtc) and no oppressor H5065 (QalActPtc) shall pass through H5674 (QalImpf) them any more: for now have I seen H7200 (QalPerf) with mine eyes. And I have pitched for My house a camp, Because of the passer through, and of the returner, And pass not through against them again doth an exactor, For, now, I have seen with My eyes.

Turn to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope! Even today I declare that I will restore double to you.

“I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back, for I have mercy on them. They will be as though I had not cast them off, for I am Yahweh their God, and I will hear them.

And I have made mighty the house of Judah, And the house of Joseph I do save, And I have caused them to dwell, for I have loved them, And they have been as if I had not cast them off, For I am Jehovah their God, And I answer them.

I will sow them among the peoples. They will remember me in far countries. They will live with their children and will return.

And I sow them among peoples, And in far-off places they remember Me, And they have lived with their sons, And they have turned back.

I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria. I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and there won’t be room enough for them.

“Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

Sword, awake against My shepherd, And against a hero-My fellow, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts. Smite the shepherd, and scattered is the flock, And I have put back My hand on the little ones.

Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” Yahweh of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”

Because Edom saith, ‘We have been made poor, And we turn back and we build the wastes,’ Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: They do build, and I do destroy, And men have called to them, ‘O region of wickedness,’ ‘O people whom Jehovah defied to the age.’
