και ειπεν κυριος ιδου γενος εν και χειλος εν παντων και τουτο ηρξαντο ποιησαι και νυν ουκ εκλειψει εξ αυτων παντα οσα αν επιθωνται ποιειν

What grows of itself in your harvest you shall not reap, and you shall not gather the grapes of your undressed vine. It shall be a year of solemn rest for the land.

και τα αυτοματα αναβαινοντα του αγρου σου ουκ εκθερισεις και την σταφυλην του αγιασματος σου ουκ εκτρυγησεις ενιαυτος αναπαυσεως εσται τη γη

That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee to you. In it you shall not sow, neither reap that which grows of itself, nor gather from the undressed vines.

αφεσεως σημασια αυτη το ετος το πεντηκοστον ενιαυτος εσται υμιν ου σπερειτε ουδε αμησετε τα αυτοματα αναβαινοντα αυτης και ου τρυγησετε τα ηγιασμενα αυτης

However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover, we saw the children of Anak there.

αλλ η οτι θρασυ το εθνος το κατοικουν επ αυτης και αι πολεις οχυραι τετειχισμεναι και μεγαλαι σφοδρα και την γενεαν εναχ εωρακαμεν εκει

Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our heart melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to the sky. Moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there!’ ”

ακουε ισραηλ συ διαβαινεις σημερον τον ιορδανην εισελθειν κληρονομησαι εθνη μεγαλα και ισχυροτερα μαλλον η υμεις πολεις μεγαλας και τειχηρεις εως του ουρανου

When you harvest your vineyard, you shall not glean it after yourselves. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

εαν δε τρυγησης τον αμπελωνα σου ουκ επανατρυγησεις αυτον τα οπισω σου τω προσηλυτω και τω ορφανω και τη χηρα εσται

They will besiege you in all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout all your land. They will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land which Yahweh your God has given you.

Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

και κατεστησεν κριτας εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν ιουδα ταις οχυραις εν πολει και πολει

After these things and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, entered into Judah, encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to win them for himself.

και μετα ταυτα ωκοδομησεν τειχος εξω της πολεως δαυιδ απο λιβος κατα γιων εν τω χειμαρρω και εκπορευομενων την πυλην την κυκλοθεν και εις το οφλα και υψωσεν σφοδρα και κατεστησεν αρχοντας της δυναμεως εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν ταις τειχηρεσιν εν ιουδα

They took fortified cities and a rich land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns dug out, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled, became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness.

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.

οιδα οτι παντα δυνασαι αδυνατει δε σοι ουθεν

^[75:13] τω φοβερω και αφαιρουμενω πνευματα αρχοντων φοβερω παρα τοις βασιλευσι της γης

For you have made a city into a heap, a fortified city into a ruin, a palace of strangers to be no city. It will never be built.

οτι εθηκας πολεις εις χωμα πολεις οχυρας του πεσειν αυτων τα θεμελια των ασεβων πολις εις τον αιωνα ου μη οικοδομηθη

For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness. The calf will feed there, and there he will lie down, and consume its branches.

το κατοικουμενον ποιμνιον ανειμενον εσται ως ποιμνιον καταλελειμμενον και εσται πολυν χρονον εις βοσκημα και εκει αναπαυσονται

και εγενετο του τεσσαρεσκαιδεκατου ετους βασιλευοντος εζεκιου ανεβη σενναχηριμ βασιλευς ασσυριων επι τας πολεις της ιουδαιας τας οχυρας και ελαβεν αυτας

ου ταυτα ηκουσας παλαι α εγω εποιησα εξ αρχαιων ημερων συνεταξα νυν δε επεδειξα εξερημωσαι εθνη εν οχυροις και ενοικουντας εν πολεσιν οχυραις

Yahweh of Armies says, “They will thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel like a vine. Turn again your hand as a grape gatherer into the baskets.”

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 They shall throughly H5953 (PoelInf) glean H5953 (PoelImpf) the remnant H7611 of Israel H3478 as a vine: H1612 turn back H7725 (HiphImpv) thine hand H3027 as a grapegatherer H1219 (QalActPtc) into the baskets. H5552

οτι ταδε λεγει κυριος καλαμασθε καλαμασθε ως αμπελον τα καταλοιπα του ισραηλ επιστρεψατε ως ο τρυγων επι τον καρταλλον αυτου

I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you,” says Yahweh.

και δωσω σε τω λαω τουτω ως τειχος οχυρον χαλκουν και πολεμησουσιν προς σε και ου μη δυνωνται προς σε διοτι μετα σου ειμι του σωζειν σε

‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know.’

If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves came by night, wouldn’t they steal until they had enough?

^[30:3] οτι τρυγηται ηλθον σοι ου καταλειψουσιν σοι καταλειμματα ως κλεπται εν νυκτι επιθησουσιν χειρα αυτων

Though Babylon should mount up to the sky, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet destroyers will come to her from me,” says Yahweh.

They will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The waste, desolate, and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.’

For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; and Judah has multiplied fortified cities; but I will send a fire on his cities, and it will devour its fortresses.”

“If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—oh, what disaster awaits you—wouldn’t they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn’t they leave some gleaning grapes?
