[1] “Put the trumpet to your lips!
Something like an eagle is over Yahweh’s house,
because they have broken my covenant
and rebelled against my law.
[2] They cry to me, ‘My God, we, Israel, acknowledge you!’
[3] Israel has cast off that which is good.
The enemy will pursue him.
[4] They have set up kings, but not by me.
They have made princes, and I didn’t approve.
Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols,
that they may be cut off.
[5] Let Samaria throw out his calf idol!
My anger burns against them!
How long will it be until they are capable of purity?
[6] For this is even from Israel!
The workman made it, and it is no God;
indeed, the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
[7] For they sow the wind,
and they will reap the whirlwind.
He has no standing grain.
The stalk will yield no head.
If it does yield, strangers will swallow it up.
[8] Israel is swallowed up.
Now they are among the nations like a worthless thing.
[9] For they have gone up to Assyria,
like a wild donkey wandering alone.
Ephraim has hired lovers for himself.
[10] But although they sold themselves among the nations,
I will now gather them;
and they begin to waste away because of the oppression of the king of mighty ones.
[11] Because Ephraim has multiplied altars for sinning,
they became for him altars for sinning.
[12] I wrote for him the many things of my law,
but they were regarded as a strange thing.
[13] As for the sacrifices of my offerings,
they sacrifice meat and eat it,
but Yahweh doesn’t accept them.
Now he will remember their iniquity,
and punish their sins.
They will return to Egypt.
[14] For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces;
and Judah has multiplied fortified cities;
but I will send a fire on his cities,
and it will devour its fortresses.”

King James Version
[1] [Set] the trumpetH7782 to thy mouth.H2441 [He shall come] as an eagleH5404 against the houseH1004 of the Lord,H3068 because they have transgressedH5674(QalPerf) my covenant,H1285 and trespassedH6586(QalPerf) against my law.H8451 [2] IsraelH3478 shall cryH2199(QalImpf) unto me, My God,H430 we knowH3045(QalPerf) thee. [3] IsraelH3478 hath cast offH2186(QalPerf) [the thing that is] good:H2896 the enemyH341(QalActPtc) shall pursueH7291(QalImpf) him. [4] They have set up kings,H4427(HiphPerf) but not by me: they have made princes,H7786(HiphPerf) and I knewH3045(QalPerf) [it] not: of their silverH3701 and their goldH2091 have they madeH6213(QalPerf) them idols,H6091 that they may be cut off.H3772(NiphImpf) [5] Thy calf,H5695 O Samaria,H8111 hath castH2186(QalPerf) [thee] off; mine angerH639 is kindledH2734(QalPerf) against them: how long [will it be] ereH3808 they attainH3201(QalImpf) to innocency?H5356 [6] For from IsraelH3478 [was] it also: the workmanH2796 madeH6213(QalPerf) it; therefore it [is] not God:H430 but the calfH5695 of SamariaH8111 shall be broken in pieces.H7616 [7] For they have sownH2232(QalImpf) the wind,H7307 and they shall reapH7114(QalImpf) the whirlwind:H5492 it hath no stalk:H7054 the budH6780 shall yieldH6213(QalImpf) no meal:H7058 ifH194 so be it yield,H6213(QalImpf) the strangersH2114(QalPtc) shall swallow it up.H1104(QalImpf) [8] IsraelH3478 is swallowed up:H1104(NiphPerf) now shall they be among the GentilesH1471 as a vesselH3627 wherein [is] no pleasure.H2656 [9] For they are gone upH5927(QalPerf) to Assyria,H804 a wild assH6501 aloneH909(QalActPtc) by himself: EphraimH669 hath hiredH8566(HiphPerf) lovers.H158 [10] Yea, though they have hiredH8566(QalImpf) among the nations,H1471 now will I gatherH6908(PielImpf) them, and they shall sorrowH2490(HiphImpf) a littleH4592 for the burdenH4853 of the kingH4428 of princes.H8269 [11] Because EphraimH669 hath made manyH7235(HiphPerf) altarsH4196 to sin,H2398(QalInf) altarsH4196 shall be unto him to sin.H2398(QalInf) [12] I have writtenH3789(QalImpf) to him the great thingsH7230(Qere) of my law,H8451 [but] they were countedH2803(NiphPerf) as a strange thing.H2114(QalPtc) [13] They sacrificeH2076(QalImpf) fleshH1320 [for] the sacrificesH2077 of mine offerings,H1890 and eatH398(QalImpf) [it; but] the LordH3068 acceptethH7521(QalPerf) them not; now will he rememberH2142(QalImpf) their iniquity,H5771 and visitH6485(QalImpf) their sins:H2403 they shall returnH7725(QalImpf) to Egypt.H4714 [14] For IsraelH3478 hath forgottenH7911(QalImpf) his Maker,H6213(QalActPtc) and buildethH1129(QalImpf) temples;H1964 and JudahH3063 hath multipliedH7235(HiphPerf) fencedH1219(QalPasPtc) cities:H5892 but I will sendH7971(PielPerf) a fireH784 upon his cities,H5892 and it shall devourH398(QalPerf) the palacesH759 thereof.
