When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, and mourned several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God^§ of heaven,

let your ear now be attentive and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father’s house have sinned.

εστω δη το ους σου προσεχον και οι οφθαλμοι σου ανεωγμενοι του ακουσαι προσευχην δουλου σου ην εγω προσευχομαι ενωπιον σου σημερον ημεραν και νυκτα περι υιων ισραηλ δουλων σου και εξαγορευω επι αμαρτιαις υιων ισραηλ ας ημαρτομεν σοι και εγω και ο οικος πατρος μου ημαρτομεν

Then the king said to me, “What is your request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.

και ειπεν μοι ο βασιλευς περι τινος τουτο συ ζητεις και προσηυξαμην προς τον θεον του ουρανου

But we made our prayer to our God, and set a watch against them day and night because of them.

Nevertheless we made our prayer H6419 (HithImpf) unto our God, H430 and set H5975 (HiphImpf) a watch H4929 against them day H3119 and night, H3915 because H6440 of them.

^[4:3] και προσηυξαμεθα προς τον θεον ημων και εστησαμεν προφυλακας επ αυτους ημερας και νυκτος απο προσωπου αυτων

Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.”

νυν δε λαβετε επτα μοσχους και επτα κριους και πορευθητε προς τον θεραποντα μου ιωβ και ποιησει καρπωσιν περι υμων ιωβ δε ο θεραπων μου ευξεται περι υμων οτι ει μη προσωπον αυτου λημψομαι ει μη γαρ δι αυτον απωλεσα αν υμας ου γαρ ελαλησατε αληθες κατα του θεραποντος μου ιωβ

Yahweh restored Job’s prosperity when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before.

And the Lord H3068 turned H7725 (QalPerf) the captivity H7622 (Qere) H7622 of Job, H347 when he prayed H6419 (HithInf) for his friends: H7453 also the Lord H3068 gave H3254 (HiphImpf) Job H347 twice as much H4932 as he had before.

ο δε κυριος ηυξησεν τον ιωβ ευξαμενου δε αυτου και περι των φιλων αυτου αφηκεν αυτοις την αμαρτιαν εδωκεν δε ο κυριος διπλα οσα ην εμπροσθεν ιωβ εις διπλασιασμον

Listen to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for I pray to you.

^[5:3] προσχες τη φωνη της δεησεως μου ο βασιλευς μου και ο θεος μου οτι προς σε προσευξομαι κυριε

For this, let everyone who is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found. Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him.

For this shall every one that is godly H2623 pray H6419 (HithImpf) unto thee in a time H6256 when thou mayest be found: H4672 (QalInf) surely in the floods H7858 of great H7227 waters H4325 they shall not come nigh H5060 (HiphImpf) unto him.

^[31:6] υπερ ταυτης προσευξεται πας οσιος προς σε εν καιρω ευθετω πλην εν κατακλυσμω υδατων πολλων προς αυτον ουκ εγγιουσιν

He will live; and Sheba’s gold will be given to him. Men will pray for him continually. They will bless him all day long.

Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment, so the plague was stopped.

Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh, saying,

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, the God of Israel says, ‘Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria,

και απεσταλη ησαιας υιος αμως προς εζεκιαν και ειπεν αυτω ταδε λεγει κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ ηκουσα α προσηυξω προς με περι σενναχηριμ βασιλεως ασσυριων

το δε λοιπον εποιησεν εις θεον γλυπτον και προσκυνει αυτω και προσευχεται λεγων εξελου με οτι θεος μου ει συ

Yahweh says: “The labor of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and the Sabeans, men of stature, will come over to you, and they will be yours. They will go after you. They shall come over in chains. They will bow down to you. They will make supplication to you: ‘Surely God is in you; and there is no one else. There is no other god.

ουτως λεγει κυριος σαβαωθ εκοπιασεν αιγυπτος και εμπορια αιθιοπων και οι σεβωιν ανδρες υψηλοι επι σε διαβησονται και σοι εσονται δουλοι και οπισω σου ακολουθησουσιν δεδεμενοι χειροπεδαις και προσκυνησουσιν σοι και εν σοι προσευξονται οτι εν σοι ο θεος εστιν και ερουσιν ουκ εστιν θεος πλην σου

“Assemble yourselves and come. Draw near together, you who have escaped from the nations. Those have no knowledge who carry the wood of their engraved image, and pray to a god that can’t save.

συναχθητε και ηκετε βουλευσασθε αμα οι σωζομενοι απο των εθνων ουκ εγνωσαν οι αιροντες το ξυλον γλυμμα αυτων και προσευχομενοι ως προς θεους οι ου σωζουσιν

“Therefore don’t pray for this people. Don’t lift up a cry or prayer for them or make intercession to me; for I will not hear you.

Therefore pray H6419 (HithImpf) not thou for this people, H5971 neither lift up H5375 (QalImpf) cry H7440 nor prayer H8605 for them, H1157 neither make intercession H6293 (QalImpf) to me: for I will not hear H8085 (QalActPtc) thee.

και συ μη προσευχου περι του λαου τουτου και μη αξιου του ελεηθηναι αυτους και μη ευχου και μη προσελθης μοι περι αυτων οτι ουκ εισακουσομαι

“Therefore don’t pray for this people. Don’t lift up cry or prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.

Therefore pray H6419 (HithImpf) not thou for this people, H5971 neither lift up H5375 (QalImpf) a cry H7440 or prayer H8605 for them: for I will not hear H8085 (QalActPtc) [them] in the time H6256 that they cry H7121 (QalInf) unto me for their trouble. H7451

και συ μη προσευχου περι του λαου τουτου και μη αξιου περι αυτων εν δεησει και προσευχη οτι ουκ εισακουσομαι εν τω καιρω εν ω επικαλουνται με εν καιρω κακωσεως αυτων

Yahweh said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) the Lord H3068 unto me, Pray H6419 (HithImpf) not for this people H5971 for [their] good. H2896

και ειπεν κυριος προς με μη προσευχου περι του λαου τουτου εις αγαθα

Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

And seek H1875 (QalImpv) the peace H7965 of the city H5892 whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, H1540 (HiphPerf) and pray H6419 (HithImpv) unto the Lord H3068 for it: for in the peace H7965 thereof shall ye have peace. H7965

^[36:7] και ζητησατε εις ειρηνην της γης εις ην απωκισα υμας εκει και προσευξασθε περι αυτων προς κυριον οτι εν ειρηνη αυτης εσται ειρηνη υμιν

You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

Then shall ye call H7121 (QalPerf) upon me, and ye shall go H1980 (QalPerf) and pray H6419 (HithPerf) unto me, and I will hearken H8085 (QalPerf) unto you.

^[36:12] και προσευξασθε προς με και εισακουσομαι υμων

Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to Yahweh, saying,

^[39:16] και προσευξαμην προς κυριον μετα το δουναι με το βιβλιον της κτησεως προς βαρουχ υιον νηριου λεγων

Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Pray now to Yahweh our God for us.”

^[44:3] και απεστειλεν ο βασιλευς σεδεκιας τον ιωαχαλ υιον σελεμιου και τον σοφονιαν υιον μαασαιου τον ιερεα προς ιερεμιαν λεγων προσευξαι δη περι ημων προς κυριον

and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to Yahweh your God, even for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us,

^[49:2] προς ιερεμιαν τον προφητην και ειπαν αυτω πεσετω δη το ελεος ημων κατα προσωπον σου και προσευξαι προς κυριον τον θεον σου περι των καταλοιπων τουτων οτι κατελειφθημεν ολιγοι απο πολλων καθως οι οφθαλμοι σου βλεπουσιν

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it will happen that whatever thing Yahweh answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”

^[49:4] και ειπεν αυτοις ιερεμιας ηκουσα ιδου εγω προσευξομαι προς κυριον τον θεον ημων κατα τους λογους υμων και εσται ο λογος ον αν αποκριθησεται κυριος αναγγελω υμιν ου μη κρυψω αφ υμων ρημα

For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God says, so declare to us, and we will do it.’

For ye dissembled H8582 (HiphPerf) in your hearts, H5315 when ye sent H7971 (QalPerf) me unto the Lord H3068 your God, H430 saying, H559 (QalInf) Pray H6419 (HithImpv) for us unto the Lord H3068 our God; H430 and according unto all that the Lord H3068 our God H430 shall say, H559 (QalImpf) so declare H5046 (HiphImpv) unto us, and we will do H6213 (QalPerf) [it].

^[49:20] οτι επονηρευσασθε εν ψυχαις υμων αποστειλαντες με λεγοντες προσευξαι περι ημων προς κυριον και κατα παντα α εαν λαληση σοι κυριος ποιησομεν

You also bear your own shame yourself, in that you have given judgment for your sisters; through your sins that you have committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous than you. Yes, be also confounded, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.

και συ κομισαι βασανον σου εν η εφθειρας τας αδελφας σου εν ταις αμαρτιαις σου αις ηνομησας υπερ αυτας και εδικαιωσας αυτας υπερ σεαυτην και συ αισχυνθητι και λαβε την ατιμιαν σου εν τω δικαιωσαι σε τας αδελφας σου

I prayed to Yahweh my God, and made confession, and said,

While I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God—

και ετι εμου λαλουντος και προσευχομενου και εξαγορευοντος τας αμαρτιας μου και τας αμαρτιας του λαου μου ισραηλ και ριπτουντος τον ελεον μου εναντιον κυριου του θεου μου περι του ορους του αγιου του θεου μου

Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God, out of the fish’s belly.

^[2:2] και προσηυξατο ιωνας προς κυριον τον θεον αυτου εκ της κοιλιας του κητους

He prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Please, Yahweh, wasn’t this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.

και προσευξατο προς κυριον και ειπεν ω κυριε ουχ ουτοι οι λογοι μου ετι οντος μου εν τη γη μου δια τουτο προεφθασα του φυγειν εις θαρσις διοτι εγνων οτι συ ελεημων και οικτιρμων μακροθυμος και πολυελεος και μετανοων επι ταις κακιαις
