The land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt. Everyone to whom mention is made of it will be afraid, because of the plans of Yahweh of Armies, which he determines against it.

And the land of Judah hath been to Egypt for a cause of staggering, Every one who doth mention it, for himself feareth, Because of the counsel of Jehovah of Hosts, That He is counselling against it.

It will be for a sign and for a witness to Yahweh of Armies in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to Yahweh because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior and a defender, and he will deliver them.

And it shall be for a sign H226 and for a witness H5707 unto the Lord H3068 of hosts H6635 in the land H776 of Egypt: H4714 for they shall cry H6817 (QalImpf) unto the Lord H3068 because H6440 of the oppressors, H3905 (QalPtc) and he shall send H7971 (QalImpf) them a saviour, H3467 (HiphPtc) and a great one, H7227 and he shall deliver H5337 (HiphPerf) them.

And it hath been for a sign and for a testimony, To Jehovah of Hosts in the land of Egypt, For they cry unto Jehovah from the face of oppressors, And He sendeth to them a saviour, Even a great one, and hath delivered them.

at that time Yahweh spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and loosen the sackcloth from off your waist, and take your sandals from off your feet.” He did so, walking naked and barefoot.

at that time spake Jehovah by the hand of Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, ‘Go, and thou hast loosed the sackcloth from off thy loins, and thy sandal thou dost draw from off thy foot,’ and he doth so, going naked and barefoot.

They will be dismayed and confounded, because of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

and they have been affrighted and ashamed of Cush their confidence, and of Egypt their beauty,

Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have seized me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can’t hear. I am so dismayed that I can’t see.

All your rulers fled away together. They were bound by the archers. All who were found by you were bound together. They fled far away.

The burden of Tyre. Howl, you ships of Tarshish! For it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in. From the land of Kittim it is revealed to them.

The confused city is broken down. Every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

It was broken down-a city of emptiness, Shut hath been every house from entrance.

It will happen that he who flees from the noise of the fear will fall into the pit; and he who comes up out of the middle of the pit will be taken in the snare; for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.

They will be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and will be shut up in the prison; and after many days they will be visited.

For you have made a city into a heap, a fortified city into a ruin, a palace of strangers to be no city. It will never be built.

For Thou didst make of a city a heap, Of a fenced city a ruin, A high place of strangers from being a city, To the age it is not built.

Just as a woman with child, who draws near the time of her delivery, is in pain and cries out in her pangs, so we have been before you, Yahweh.

When a pregnant woman cometh near to the birth, She is pained-she crieth in her pangs, So we have been from Thy face, O Jehovah.

They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment.

And even these through wine have erred, And through strong drink have wandered, Priest and prophet erred through strong drink, They have been swallowed up of the wine, They wandered because of the strong drink, They have erred in seeing, They have stumbled judicially.

For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap oneself in.

For shorter hath been the bed Than to stretch one’s self out in, And the covering hath been narrower Than to wrap one’s self up in.

“Woe to the rebellious children”, says Yahweh, “who take counsel, but not from me; and who make an alliance, but not with my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin;

Woe to apostate sons, The affirmation of Jehovah! To do counsel, and not from Me, And to spread out a covering, and not of My spirit, So as to add sin to sin.

Get out of the way. Turn away from the path. Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.”

and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

And thine ear heareth a word behind thee, Saying, ‘This is the way, go ye in it,’ When ye turn to the right, And when ye turn to the left.

His rock will pass away by reason of terror, and his princes will be afraid of the banner,” says Yahweh, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

And to his rock from fear he passeth on, And affrighted by the ensign have been his princes-an affirmation of Jehovah, Who hath a light in Zion, And who hath a furnace in Jerusalem!

He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

Whoso is walking righteously, And is speaking uprightly, Kicking against gain of oppressions, Shaking his hands from taking hold on a bribe, Stopping his ear from hearing of blood, And shutting his eyes from looking on evil,

You will no longer see the fierce people, a people of a deep speech that you can’t comprehend, with a strange language that you can’t understand.

The strong people thou seest not, A people deeper of lip than to be understood, Of a scorned tongue, there is no understanding.

Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘Yahweh says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

and Isaiah saith unto them, ‘Thus do ye say unto your lord, Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.

All the nations are like nothing before him. They are regarded by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

All the nations are as nothing before Him, Less than nothing and emptiness, They have been reckoned to Him.

Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. By the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

Lift up H5375 (QalImpv) your eyes H5869 on high, H4791 and behold H7200 (QalImpv) who hath created H1254 (QalPerf) these [things], that bringeth out H3318 (HiphPtc) their host H6635 by number: H4557 he calleth H7121 (QalImpf) them all by names H8034 by the greatness H7230 of his might, H202 for that [he is] strong H533 in power; H3581 not one H376 faileth. Lift up on high your eyes, And see-who hath prepared these? He who is bringing out by number their host, To all of them by name He calleth, By abundance of strength (And he is strong in power) not one is lacking.

When I look, there is no man, even among them there is no counselor who, when I ask, can answer a word.

For I beheld, H7200 (QalImpf) and [there was] no man; H376 even among them, and [there was] no counsellor, H3289 (QalActPtc) that, when I asked H7592 (QalImpf) of them, could answer H7725 (HiphImpf) a word. H1697

And I see that there is no man, Yea, of these that there is no counsellor, And I ask them, and they return word:

Therefore he poured the fierceness of his anger on him, and the strength of battle. It set him on fire all around, but he didn’t know. It burned him, but he didn’t take it to heart.”

And He poureth on him fury, His anger, and the strength of battle, And it setteth him on fire round about, And he hath not known, And it burneth against him, and he layeth it not to heart!

Since you have been precious and honored in my sight, and I have loved you, therefore I will give people in your place, and nations instead of your life.

Since thou wast precious in Mine eyes, Thou wast honoured, and I have loved thee, And I appoint men in thy stead, And peoples instead of thy life.

I myself am Yahweh. Besides me, there is no savior.

I, [even] I, [am] the Lord; H3068 and beside H1107 me [there is] no saviour. H3467 (HiphPtc)

I-I am Jehovah, And besides Me there is no saviour.

This is what Yahweh, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Yahweh of Armies, says: “I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 the King H4428 of Israel, H3478 and his redeemer H1350 (QalActPtc) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 I [am] the first, H7223 and I [am] the last; H314 and beside H1107 me [there is] no God. H430

Thus said Jehovah, king of Israel, And his Redeemer, Jehovah of Hosts: ‘I am the first, and I the last, And besides Me there is no God.

Don’t fear, neither be afraid. Haven’t I declared it to you long ago, and shown it? You are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Indeed, there is not. I don’t know any other Rock.”

Fear not, nor be afraid, Have I not from that time caused thee to hear, and declared? And ye are My witnesses, Is there a God besides Me? yea, there is none, A Rock I have not known.

Behold, all his fellows will be disappointed; and the workmen are mere men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together.

Lo, all his companions are ashamed, As to artisans-they are of men, All of them gather together, they stand up, They fear, they are ashamed together.

They don’t know, neither do they consider, for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see, and their hearts, that they can’t understand.

They have not known H3045 (QalPerf) nor understood: H995 (QalImpf) for he hath shut H2902 (QalPerf) their eyes, H5869 that they cannot see; H7200 (QalInf) [and] their hearts, H3826 that they cannot understand. H7919 (HiphInf)

They have not known, nor do they understand, For He hath daubed their eyes from seeing, Their heart from acting wisely.

Yahweh, your Redeemer, and he who formed you from the womb says: “I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself;

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 thy redeemer, H1350 (QalActPtc) and he that formed H3335 (QalActPtc) thee from the womb, H990 I [am] the Lord H3068 that maketh H6213 (QalActPtc) all [things]; that stretcheth forth H5186 (QalActPtc) the heavens H8064 alone; that spreadeth abroad H7554 (QalActPtc) the earth H776 by myself;

Thus said Jehovah, thy redeemer, And thy framer from the womb: ‘I am Jehovah, doing all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, Spreading out the earth-who is with Me?

Declare and present it. Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has shown this from ancient time? Who has declared it of old? Haven’t I, Yahweh? There is no other God besides me, a just God and a Savior. There is no one besides me.

Tell H5046 (HiphImpv) ye, and bring [them] near; H5066 (HiphImpv) yea, let them take counsel H3289 (NiphImpf) together: H3162 who hath declared H8085 (HiphPerf) this from ancient time? H6924 [who] hath told H5046 (HiphPerf) it from that time? [have] not I the Lord? H3068 and [there is] no God H430 else beside H1107 me; a just H6662 God H410 and a Saviour; H3467 (HiphPtc) [there is] none H369 beside H2108 me.

Declare ye, and bring near, Yea, they take counsel together, Who hath proclaimed this from of old? From that time hath declared it? Is it not I-Jehovah? And there is no other god besides Me, A God righteous and saving, there is none save Me.

for they call themselves citizens of the holy city, and rely on the God of Israel; Yahweh of Armies is his name.

For they call H7121 (NiphPerf) themselves of the holy H6944 city, H5892 and stay H5564 (NiphPerf) themselves upon the God H430 of Israel; H3478 The Lord H3068 of hosts H6635 [is] his name. H8034

For from the Holy City they have been called, And on the God of Israel been supported, Jehovah of Hosts is His name.

Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

Because I knew H1847 that thou [art] obstinate, H7186 and thy neck H6203 [is] an iron H1270 sinew, H1517 and thy brow H4696 brass; H5154

From my knowing that thou art obstinate, And a sinew of iron thy neck, And thy forehead brass,

Indeed, he says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you as a light to the nations, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.”

And He saith, ‘It hath been a light thing That thou art to Me for a servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And the preserved of Israel to bring back, And I have given thee for a light of nations, To be My salvation unto the end of the earth.’

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you!

Forget doth a woman her suckling, The loved one-the son of her womb? Yea, these forget-but I-I forget not thee.

“For, as for your waste and your desolate places, and your land that has been destroyed, surely now that land will be too small for the inhabitants, and those who swallowed you up will be far away.

Because thy wastes, and thy desolate places, And the land of thy ruins, Surely now are straitened because of inhabitants, And far off have been those consuming thee.

Why, when I came, was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it can’t redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water, and die of thirst.

Wherefore have I come, and there is no one? I called, and there is none answering, Hath My hand been at all short of redemption? And is there not in me power to deliver? Lo, by My rebuke I dry up a sea, I make rivers a wilderness, Their fish stinketh, for there is no water, And dieth with thirst.

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens will vanish away like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a garment. Its inhabitants will die in the same way, but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will not be abolished.

Lift ye up to the heavens your eyes, And look attentively unto the earth beneath, For the heavens as smoke have vanished, And the earth as a garment weareth out, And its inhabitants as gnats do die, And My salvation is to the age, And My righteousness is not broken.

Have you forgotten Yahweh your Maker, who stretched out the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth? Do you live in fear continually all day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he prepares to destroy? Where is the fury of the oppressor?

And thou dost forget Jehovah thy maker, Who is stretching out the heavens, and founding earth, And thou dost fear continually all the day, Because of the fury of the oppressor, As he hath prepared to destroy. And where is the fury of the oppressor?

There is no one to guide her among all the sons to whom she has given birth; and there is no one who takes her by the hand among all the sons whom she has brought up.

As astonished at thee have been many, (So marred by man his appearance, And his form by sons of men.)

After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light^‡ and be satisfied. My righteous servant will justify many by the knowledge of himself; and he will bear their iniquities.

“Sing, barren, you who didn’t give birth! Break out into singing, and cry aloud, you who didn’t travail with child! For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife,” says Yahweh.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

For high have the heavens been above the earth, So high have been My ways above your ways, And My thoughts above your thoughts.

I will give them in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name better than of sons and of daughters. I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.

Even unto them will I give H5414 (QalPerf) in mine house H1004 and within my walls H2346 a place H3027 and a name H8034 better H2896 than of sons H1121 and of daughters: H1323 I will give H5414 (QalImpf) them an everlasting H5769 name, H8034 that shall not be cut off. H3772 (NiphImpf)

I have given to them in My house, And within My walls a station and a name, Better than sons and than daughters, A name age-during I give to him That is not cut off.
