Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many, and from the few you shall take few. Everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give some of his cities to the Levites.”

And the cities which ye give are of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.’

You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan. They shall be cities of refuge.

and the avenger of blood finds him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the man slayer, he shall not be guilty of blood,

Every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers.

‘And every daughter possessing an inheritance, of the tribes of the sons of Israel, is to one of the family of the tribe of her father for a wife, so that the sons of Israel possess each the inheritance of his fathers,

You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

ye do not discern faces in judgment; as the little so the great ye do hear; ye are not afraid of the face of any, for the judgment is God’s, and the thing which is too hard for you, ye bring near unto me, and I have heard it;

Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our heart melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to the sky. Moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there!’ ”

Whither shall we go up? So we passed by from our brothers, the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

Yahweh said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you any of his land for a possession, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.”

and Jehovah saith unto me, Do not distress Moab, nor stir thyself up against them in battle, for I do not give to thee of their land for a possession; for to the sons of Lot I have given Ar for a possession.’

When you come near the border of the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you any of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession, because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.”

and thou hast come near over-against the sons of Ammon, thou dost not distress them, nor stir up thyself against them, for I do not give any of the land of the sons of Ammon to thee for a possession; for to the sons of Lot I have given it for a possession.

Today I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.”

This day I begin to put thy dread and thy fear on the face of the peoples under the whole heavens, who hear thy fame, and have trembled and been pained because of thee.

From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. Yahweh our God delivered up all before us.

‘From Aroer, which is by the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which is by the brook, even unto Gilead there hath not been a city which is too high for us; the whole hath Jehovah our God given before us.

All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, in addition to a great many villages without walls.

All these cities H5892 [were] fenced H1219 (QalPasPtc) with high H1364 walls, H2346 gates, H1817 and bars; H1280 beside unwalled H6521 towns H5892 a great H3966 many. H7235 (HiphInf)

All these are cities fenced with high walls, two-leaved doors and bar, apart from cities of villages very many;

the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth;

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been anything as great as this thing is, or has been heard like it?

‘For, ask, I pray thee, at the former days which have been before thee, from the day that God prepared man on the earth, and from the one end of the heavens even unto the other end of the heavens, whether there hath been as this great thing-or hath been heard like it?

It was shown to you so that you might know that Yahweh is God. There is no one else besides him.

Unto thee it was shewed, H7200 (HophPerf) that thou mightest know H3045 (QalInf) that the Lord H3068 he [is] God; H430 [there is] none else H5750 beside him. H905

Thou, thou hast been shewn it, to know that Jehovah He is God; there is none else besides Him.

to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.

To drive out H3423 (HiphInf) nations H1471 from before H6440 thee greater H1419 and mightier H6099 than thou [art], to bring H935 (HiphInf) thee in, to give H5414 (QalInf) thee their land H776 [for] an inheritance, H5159 as [it is] this day. H3117

to dispossess nations greater and stronger than thou, from thy presence, to bring thee in to give to thee their land-an inheritance, as at this day.

Know therefore today, and take it to heart, that Yahweh himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath. There is no one else.

Know H3045 (QalPerf) therefore this day, H3117 and consider H7725 (HiphPerf) [it] in thine heart, H3824 that the Lord H3068 he [is] God H430 in heaven H8064 above, H4605 and upon the earth H776 beneath: [there is] none else.

‘And thou hast known to-day, and hast turned it back unto thy heart, that Jehovah He is God, in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath-there is none else;

(I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to show you Yahweh’s word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain) saying,

for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God, lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

for a zealous God is Jehovah thy God in thy midst-lest the anger of Jehovah thy God burn against thee, and He hath destroyed thee from off the face of the ground.

When Yahweh your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you;

When the Lord H3068 thy God H430 shall bring H935 (HiphImpf) thee into the land H776 whither thou goest H935 (QalActPtc) to possess H3423 (QalInf) it, and hath cast out H5394 (QalPerf) many H7227 nations H1471 before H6440 thee, the Hittites, H2850 and the Girgashites, H1622 and the Amorites, H567 and the Canaanites, H3669 and the Perizzites, H6522 and the Hivites, H2340 and the Jebusites, H2983 seven H7651 nations H1471 greater H7227 and mightier H6099 than thou;

‘When Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land whither thou art going in to possess it, and He hath cast out many nations from thy presence, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations more numerous and mighty than thou,

Yahweh didn’t set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples;

The Lord H3068 did not set his love H2836 (QalPerf) upon you, nor choose H977 (QalImpf) you, because ye were more H7230 in number than any people; H5971 for ye [were] the fewest H4592 of all people: H5971

‘Not because of your being more numerous than any of the peoples hath Jehovah delighted in you, and fixeth on you, for ye are the least of all the peoples,

You will be blessed above all peoples. There won’t be male or female barren among you, or among your livestock.

Thou shalt be blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) above all people: H5971 there shall not be male H6135 or female barren H6135 among you, or among your cattle. H929

‘Blessed art thou above all the peoples, there is not in thee a barren man or a barren woman-nor among your cattle;

If you shall say in your heart, “These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?”

If thou shalt say H559 (QalImpf) in thine heart, H3824 These nations H1471 [are] more H7227 than I; how H349 can H3201 (QalImpf) I dispossess H3423 (HiphInf) them?

‘When thou sayest in thine heart, These nations are more numerous than I, how am I able to dispossess them?-

Yahweh your God will cast out those nations before you little by little. You may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you.

And the Lord H3068 thy God H430 will put out H5394 (QalPerf) those H411 nations H1471 before H6440 thee by little H4592 and little: H4592 thou mayest H3201 (QalImpf) not consume H3615 (PielInf) them at once, H4118 lest the beasts H2416 of the field H7704 increase H7235 (QalImpf) upon thee.

‘And Jehovah thy God hath cast out these nations from thy presence little by little, (thou art not able to consume them hastily, lest the beast of the field multiply against thee),

As the nations that Yahweh makes to perish before you, so you shall perish, because you wouldn’t listen to Yahweh your God’s voice.

As the nations H1471 which the Lord H3068 destroyeth H6 (HiphPtc) before your face, H6440 so shall ye perish; H6 (QalImpf) because H6118 ye would not be obedient H8085 (QalImpf) unto the voice H6963 of the Lord H3068 your God. H430

as the nations whom Jehovah is destroying from your presence, so ye perish; because ye hearken not to the voice of Jehovah your God.

Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,

Hear, H8085 (QalImpv) O Israel: H3478 Thou [art] to pass over H5674 (QalActPtc) Jordan H3383 this day, H3117 to go in H935 (QalInf) to possess H3423 (QalInf) nations H1471 greater H1419 and mightier H6099 than thyself, cities H5892 great H1419 and fenced up H1219 (QalPasPtc) to heaven, H8064

‘Hear, Israel, thou art passing over to-day the Jordan, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself; cities great and fenced in the heavens;

Don’t say in your heart, after Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you, “For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land;” because Yahweh drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.

Speak H559 (QalImpf) not thou in thine heart, H3824 after that the Lord H3068 thy God H430 hath cast them out H1920 (QalInf) from before H6440 thee, saying, H559 (QalInf) For my righteousness H6666 the Lord H3068 hath brought me in H935 (HiphPerf) to possess H3423 (QalInf) this land: H776 but for the wickedness H7564 of these nations H1471 the Lord H3068 doth drive them out H3423 (HiphPtc) from before H6440 thee.

‘Thou dost not speak in thy heart (in Jehovah thy God’s driving them away from before thee), saying, For my righteousness hath Jehovah brought me in to possess this land, seeing for the wickedness of these nations is Jehovah dispossessing them from thy presence;

Not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Not for thy righteousness, H6666 or for the uprightness H3476 of thine heart, H3824 dost thou go H935 (QalActPtc) to possess H3423 (QalInf) their land: H776 but for the wickedness H7564 of these nations H1471 the Lord H3068 thy God H430 doth drive them out H3423 (HiphPtc) from before H6440 thee, and that he may perform H6965 (HiphInf) the word H1697 which the Lord H3068 sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto thy fathers, H1 Abraham, H85 Isaac, H3327 and Jacob. H3290

not for thy righteousness, and for the uprightness of thy heart, art thou going in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations is Jehovah thy God dispossessing them from before thee; and in order to establish the word which Jehovah hath sworn to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob;

Remember, and don’t forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.

Remember, H2142 (QalImpv) [and] forget H7911 (QalImpf) not, how thou provokedst the Lord H3068 thy God H430 to wrath H7107 (HiphPerf) in the wilderness: H4057 from H4480 the day H3117 that thou didst depart out H3318 (QalPerf) of the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 until ye came H935 (QalInf) unto this place, H4725 ye have been rebellious H4784 (HiphPtc) against H5973 the Lord. ‘Remember-do not forget-that with which thou hast made Jehovah thy God wroth in the wilderness; even from the day that thou hast come out of the land of Egypt till your coming in unto this place rebels ye have been with Jehovah;

Leave me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”

desist from Me, and I destroy them, and blot out their name from under the heavens, and I make thee become a nation more mighty and numerous than it.

lest the land you brought us out from say, ‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’

lest the land say from which Thou hast brought us out, Because of Jehovah’s want of ability to bring them in unto the land of which He hath spoken to them, and because of His hating them, He brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness;

Only Yahweh had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their offspring after them, even you above all peoples, as it is today.

then hath Jehovah dispossessed all these nations from before you, and ye have possessed nations, greater and mightier than you;

When Yahweh your God cuts off the nations from before you where you go in to dispossess them, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land,

When the Lord H3068 thy God H430 shall cut off H3772 (HiphImpf) the nations H1471 from before H6440 thee, whither thou goest H935 (QalActPtc) to possess H3423 (QalInf) them, and thou succeedest H3423 (QalPerf) them, and dwellest H3427 (QalPerf) in their land; H776

‘When Jehovah thy God doth cut off the nations-whither thou art going in to possess them-from thy presence, and thou hast possessed them, and hast dwelt in their land-

be careful that you are not ensnared to follow them after they are destroyed from before you, and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”

take heed to thee, lest thou be snared after them, after their being destroyed out of thy presence, and lest thou enquire about their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods, and I do so-even I?

Nevertheless these you shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof split: the camel, the hare, and the rabbit. Because they chew the cud but don’t part the hoof, they are unclean to you.

‘Only, this ye do not eat, of those bringing up the cud, and of those dividing the cloven hoof: the camel, and the hare, and the rabbit, for they are bringing up the cud but the hoof have not divided; unclean they are to you;

The pig, because it has a split hoof but doesn’t chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat their meat. You shall not touch their carcasses.

And the swine, H2386 because it divideth H6536 (HiphPtc) the hoof, H6541 yet cheweth not the cud, H1625 it [is] unclean H2931 unto you: ye shall not eat H398 (QalImpf) of their flesh, H1320 nor touch H5060 (QalImpf) their dead carcase. H5038

and the sow, for it is dividing the hoof, and not bringing up the cud, unclean it is to you; of their flesh ye do not eat, and against their carcase ye do not come.

If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates, then you shall arise, and go up to the place which Yahweh your God chooses.

‘When anything is too hard for thee for judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke-matters of strife within thy gates-then thou hast risen, and gone up unto the place on which Jehovah thy God doth fix,

that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he not turn away from the commandment to the right hand, or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the middle of Israel.

If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel where he lives, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh shall choose,

‘And when the Levite cometh from one of thy cities out of all Israel, where he hath sojourned, and hath come with all the desire of his soul unto the place which Jehovah doth choose,

For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Because of these abominations, Yahweh your God drives them out from before you.

‘For the abomination of Jehovah is every one doing these, and because of these abominations is Jehovah thy God dispossessing them from thy presence.

When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, is with you.

If there is among you any man who is not clean by reason of that which happens to him by night, then shall he go outside of the camp. He shall not come within the camp;

‘When there is in thee a man who is not clean, from an accident at night-then he hath gone out unto the outside of the camp-he doth not come in unto the midst of the camp-

You shall have a place also outside of the camp where you go relieve yourself.
