But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.

There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither plunder, nor anything that they had taken. David brought them all back.

And there was nothing lacking H5737 (NiphPerf) to them, neither H4480 small H6996 nor great, H1419 neither sons H1121 nor daughters, H1323 neither spoil, H7998 nor any [thing] that they had taken H3947 (QalPerf) to them: David H1732 recovered H7725 (HiphPerf) all.

And there hath not lacked to them anything, from small unto great, and unto sons and daughters, and from the spoil, even unto all that they had taken to themselves, the whole hath David brought back,

David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.

And David cometh in unto the two hundred men who were too faint to go after David, and whom they cause to abide at the brook of Besor, and they go out to meet David, and to meet the people who are with him, and David approacheth the people, and asketh of them of welfare.

Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”

And every bad and worthless man, of the men who have gone with David, answereth, yea, they say, ‘Because that they have not gone with us we do not give to them of the spoil which we have delivered, except each his wife and his children, and they lead away and go.

Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives. In their death, they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions.

He could not answer Abner another word, because he was afraid of him.

And he is not able any more to turn back Abner a word, because of his fearing him.

Afterward, when David heard it, he said, “I and my kingdom are guiltless before Yahweh forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.

And afterward H310 when David H1732 heard H8085 (QalImpf) [it], he said, H559 (QalImpf) I and my kingdom H4467 [are] guiltless H5355 before the Lord H3068 for H5704 ever H5769 from the blood H1818 of Abner H74 the son H1121 of Ner: H5369

And David heareth afterwards and saith, ‘Acquitted am I, and my kingdom, by Jehovah, unto the age, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;

I am weak today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May Yahweh reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.”

And I [am] this day H3117 weak, H7390 though anointed H4886 (QalPasPtc) king; H4428 and these men H582 the sons H1121 of Zeruiah H6870 [be] too hard H7186 for me: the Lord H3068 shall reward H7999 (PielImpf) the doer of evil H6213 (QalActPtc) according to his wickedness. H7451

and I to-day am tender, and an anointed king: and these men, sons of Zeruiah, are too hard for me; Jehovah doth recompense to the doer of the evil according to his evil.’

He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.

and he apportioneth to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, from man even unto woman, to each, one cake of bread, and one eshpar, and one ashisha, and all the people go, each to his house.

David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh.

And David saith unto Michal, ‘-Before Jehovah, who fixed on me above thy father, and above all his house, to appoint me leader over the people of Jehovah, and over Israel,-yea, I played before Jehovah;

I will be yet more undignified than this, and will be worthless in my own sight. But the maids of whom you have spoken will honor me.”

and I have been more vile than this, and have been low in mine eyes, and with the handmaids whom thou hast spoken of, with them I am honoured.’

For I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought the children of Israel up out of Egypt, even to this day, but have moved around in a tent and in a tabernacle.

Whereas I have not dwelt H3427 (QalPerf) in [any] house H1004 since the time H3117 that I brought up H5927 (HiphInf) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 out of Egypt, H4714 even to this day, H3117 but have walked H1980 (HithPtc) in a tent H168 and in a tabernacle. H4908

for I have not dwelt in a house even from the day of My bringing up the sons of Israel out of Egypt, even unto this day, and am walking up and down in a tent and in a tabernacle.

What one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make himself a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeemed to yourself out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

And what one H259 nation H1471 in the earth H776 [is] like thy people, H5971 [even] like Israel, H3478 whom God H430 went H1980 (QalPerf) to redeem H6299 (QalInf) for a people H5971 to himself, and to make H7760 (QalInf) him a name, H8034 and to do H6213 (QalInf) for you great things H1420 and terrible, H3372 (NiphPtc) for thy land, H776 before H6440 thy people, H5971 which thou redeemedst H6299 (QalPerf) to thee from Egypt, H4714 [from] the nations H1471 and their gods? ‘And who is as Thy people, as Israel-one nation in the earth, whom God hath gone to redeem to Him for a people, and to make for Him a name-and to do for you the greatness-even fearful things for Thy land, at the presence of Thy people, whom Thou hast redeemed to Thee out of Egypt-among the nations and their gods?

He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) If the Syrians H758 be too strong H2388 (QalImpf) for me, then thou shalt help H3444 me: but if the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 be too strong H2388 (QalImpf) for thee, then I will come H1980 (QalPerf) and help H3467 (HiphInf) thee.

And he saith, ‘If Aram be stronger than I, then thou hast been to me for salvation, and if the Bene-Ammon be stronger than thou, then I have come to give salvation to thee;

So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.

And Joab H3097 drew nigh, H5066 (QalImpf) and the people H5971 that [were] with him, unto the battle H4421 against the Syrians: H758 and they fled H5127 (QalImpf) before H6440 him.

And Joab draweth nigh, and the people who are with him, to battle against Aram, and they flee from his presence;

When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.

And when the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 saw H7200 (QalPerf) that the Syrians H758 were fled, H5127 (QalPerf) then fled H5127 (QalImpf) they also before H6440 Abishai, H52 and entered H935 (QalImpf) into the city. and the Bene-Ammon have seen that Aram hath fled, and they flee from the presence of Abishai, and go in to the city; and Joab turneth back from the Bene-Ammon, and cometh in to Jerusalem.

Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.

And Hadarezer H1928 sent, H7971 (QalImpf) and brought out H3318 (HiphImpf) the Syrians H758 that [were] beyond H5676 the river: H5104 and they came H935 (QalImpf) to Helam; H2431 and Shobach H7731 the captain H8269 of the host H6635 of Hadarezer H1928 [went] before H6440 them.

and Hadadezer sendeth, and bringeth out Aram which is beyond the River, and they come in to Helam, and Shobach head of the host of Hadadezer is before them.

The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.

And the Syrians H758 fled H5127 (QalImpf) before H6440 Israel; H3478 and David H1732 slew H2026 (QalImpf) [the men of] seven H7651 hundred H3967 chariots H7393 of the Syrians, H758 and forty H705 thousand H505 horsemen, H6571 and smote H5221 (HiphPerf) Shobach H7731 the captain H8269 of their host, H6635 who died H4191 (QalImpf) there.

and Aram fleeth from the presence of Israel, and David slayeth of Aram seven hundred charioteers, and forty thousand horsemen, and Shobach head of its host he hath smitten, and he dieth there.

The men of the city went out and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of David’s servants; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

And the men H582 of the city H5892 went out, H3318 (QalImpf) and fought H3898 (NiphImpf) with Joab: H3097 and there fell H5307 (QalImpf) [some] of the people H5971 of the servants H5650 of David; H1732 and Uriah H223 the Hittite H2850 died H4191 (QalImpf) also.

and the men of the city go out and fight with Joab, and there fall some of the people, of the servants of David; and there dieth also Uriah the Hittite.

The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”

And the shooters H3384 (HiphPtc) shot H3384 (HiphImpf) from off the wall H2346 upon thy servants; H5650 and [some] of the king’s H4428 servants H5650 be dead, H4191 (QalImpf) and thy servant H5650 Uriah H223 the Hittite H2850 is dead H4191 (QalPerf) also.

and those shooting shoot at thy servants from off the wall, and some of the servants of the king are dead, and also, thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.

However, he would not listen to her voice; but being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.

Howbeit he would H14 (QalPerf) not hearken H8085 (QalInf) unto her voice: H6963 but, being stronger H2388 (QalImpf) than she, forced H6031 (PielImpf) her, and lay H7901 (QalImpf) with her.

And he hath not been willing to hearken to her voice, and is stronger than she, and humbleth her, and lieth with her.

Then Amnon hated her with exceedingly great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Arise, be gone!”

And Amnon hateth her-a very great hatred-that greater is the hatred with which he hath hated her than the love with which he loved her, and Amnon saith to her, ‘Rise, go.’

She said to him, “Not so, because this great wrong in sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me!” But he would not listen to her.

Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered, “Don’t let my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

And Jonadab, H3122 the son H1121 of Shimeah H8093 David’s H1732 brother, H251 answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) Let not my lord H113 suppose H559 (QalImpf) [that] they have slain H4191 (HiphPerf) all the young men H5288 the king’s H4428 sons; H1121 for Amnon H550 only is dead: H4191 (QalPerf) for by the appointment H6310 of Absalom H53 this hath been determined H7760 (QalPasPtc) from the day H3117 that he forced H6031 (PielInf) his sister H269 Tamar. And Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answereth and saith, ‘Let not my lord say, The whole of the young men, the sons of the king, they have put to death; for Amnon alone is dead, for by the command of Absalom it hath been appointed from the day of his humbling Tamar his sister;

After this, Absalom prepared a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him.

And it came to pass after this, H310 that Absalom H53 prepared H6213 (QalImpf) him chariots H4818 and horses, H5483 and fifty H2572 men H376 to run H7323 (QalPtc) before H6440 him.

And it cometh to pass afterwards, that Absalom prepareth for himself a chariot, and horses, and fifty men are running before him;

Absalom said to him, “Behold, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you.”

And Absalom saith unto him, ‘See, thy matters are good and straightforward-and there is none hearkening to thee from the king.’

Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For Yahweh had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Yahweh might bring evil on Absalom.

And Absalom H53 and all the men H376 of Israel H3478 said, H559 (QalImpf) The counsel H6098 of Hushai H2365 the Archite H757 [is] better H2896 than the counsel H6098 of Ahithophel. And Absalom saith-and all the men of Israel-‘Better is the counsel of Hushai the Archite than the counsel of Ahithophel;’ and Jehovah willed to make void the good counsel of Ahithophel for the sake of Jehovah’s bringing unto Absalom the evil.

For the battle was there spread over the surface of all the country, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

and the battle is there scattered over the face of all the land, and the forest multiplieth to devour among the people more than those whom the sword hath devoured in that day.

Otherwise, if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hidden from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me.”

or I had done against my soul a vain thing, and no matter is hid from the king, and thou-thou dost station thyself over-against.’

Now therefore arise, go out and speak to comfort your servants; for I swear by Yahweh, if you don’t go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now.”

‘And now, rise, go out and speak unto the heart of thy servants, for by Jehovah I have sworn, that-thou art not going out-there doth not lodge a man with thee to-night; and this is worse for thee than all the evil that hath come upon thee from thy youth till now.’

The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

And the men of Israel answer the men of Judah, and say, ‘Ten parts we have in the king, and also in David more than you; and wherefore have ye lightly esteemed us, that our word hath not been first to bring back our king?’ And the word of the men of Judah is sharper than the word of the men of Israel.

So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together, but he stayed longer than the set time which had been appointed to him.

David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your lord’s servants and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.”

and David saith unto Abishai, ‘Now doth Sheba son of Bichri do evil to us more than Absalom; thou, take the servants of thy lord, and pursue after him, lest he have found for himself fenced cities, and delivered himself from our eye.’

He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.

For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, And have not done wickedly against my God.

who brings me away from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man.

And bringing me forth from mine enemies, Yea, above my withstanders Thou raisest me up. From a man of violence Thou deliverest me.

shall be as the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the tender grass springs out of the earth, through clear shining after rain.’

And [he shall be] as the light H216 of the morning, H1242 [when] the sun H8121 riseth, H2224 (QalImpf) [even] a morning H1242 without H3808 clouds; H5645 [as] the tender grass H1877 [springing] out of the earth H776 by clear shining H5051 after rain. H4306

And as the light of morning he riseth, A morning sun-no clouds! By the shining, by the rain, Tender grass of the earth!

Wasn’t he most honorable of the three? Therefore he was made their captain. However he wasn’t included as one of the three.

Was he not most honourable H3513 (NiphPtc) of three? H7969 therefore he was their captain: H8269 howbeit he attained H935 (QalPerf) not unto the [first] three. H7969

Of the three is he not the honoured? and he becometh their head; and unto the first three he hath not come.

He was more honorable than the thirty, but he didn’t attain to the three. David set him over his guard.

Of the thirty he is honoured, and unto the three he came not; and David setteth him over his guard.

Moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne;’ and the king bowed himself on the bed.
