of the nations of which Jehovah said unto the sons of Israel, ‘Ye do not go in to them, and they do not go in to you; surely they turn aside your heart after their gods;’ to them hath Solomon cleaved for love.

Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt, when Hadad was still a little child.

Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

And Rehoboam cometh to Jerusalem, and assembleth all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.

Behold, a man of God came out of Judah by Yahweh’s word to Bethel; and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

And, behold, there came H935 (QalPerf) a man H376 of God H430 out of Judah H3063 by the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 unto Bethel: H1008 and Jeroboam H3379 stood H5975 (QalActPtc) by the altar H4196 to burn incense. H6999 (HiphInf)

And lo, a man of God hath come from Judah, by the word of Jehovah, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar-to make perfume;

The king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”

And the king H4428 said H1696 (PielImpf) unto the man H376 of God, H430 Come H935 (QalImpv) home H1004 with me, and refresh H5582 (QalImpv) thyself, and I will give H5414 (QalImpf) thee a reward. H4991

And the king speaketh unto the man of God, ‘Come in with me to the house, and refresh thyself, and I give to thee a gift.’

The man of God said to the king, “Even if you gave me half of your house, I would not go in with you, neither would I eat bread nor drink water in this place;

And the man H376 of God H430 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the king, H4428 If thou wilt give H5414 (QalImpf) me half H2677 thine house, H1004 I will not go in H935 (QalImpf) with thee, neither will I eat H398 (QalImpf) bread H3899 nor drink H8354 (QalImpf) water H4325 in this place: H4725

And the man of God saith unto the king, ‘If thou dost give to me the half of thine house, I do not go in with thee, nor do I eat bread, nor do I drink water, in this place;

So he went another way, and didn’t return by the way that he came to Bethel.

So he went H3212 (QalImpf) another H312 way, H1870 and returned H7725 (QalPerf) not by the way H1870 that he came H935 (QalPerf) to Bethel. H1008

And he goeth on in another way, and hath not turned back in the way in which he came in unto Beth-El.

Now an old prophet lived in Bethel, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.

Now there dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) an H259 old H2205 prophet H5030 in Bethel; H1008 and his sons H1121 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5608 (PielImpf) him all the works H4639 that the man H376 of God H430 had done H6213 (QalPerf) that day H3117 in Bethel: H1008 the words H1697 which he had spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto the king, H4428 them they told H5608 (PielImpf) also to their father. And a certain aged prophet is dwelling in Beth-El, and his son cometh and recounteth to him all the deed that the man of God hath done to-day in Beth-El, the words that he hath spoken unto the king,-yea, they recount them to their father.

Their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” Now his sons had seen which way the man of God went, who came from Judah.

And their father saith unto them, ‘Where is this-the way he hath gone?’ and his sons see the way that the man of God hath gone who came from Judah.

He went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. He said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” He said, “I am.”

and goeth after the man of God, and findeth him sitting under the oak, and saith unto him, ‘Art thou the man of God who hast come from Judah?’ and he saith, ‘I am.’

He said, “I may not return with you, nor go in with you. I will not eat bread or drink water with you in this place.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) I may H3201 (QalImpf) not return H7725 (QalInf) with thee, nor go in H935 (QalInf) with thee: neither will I eat H398 (QalImpf) bread H3899 nor drink H8354 (QalImpf) water H4325 with thee in this place: H4725

And he saith, ‘I am not able to turn back with thee, and to go in with thee, nor do I eat bread or drink with thee water in this place,

and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have been disobedient to Yahweh’s word, and have not kept the commandment which Yahweh your God commanded you,

And he cried H7121 (QalImpf) unto the man H376 of God H430 that came H935 (QalPerf) from Judah, H3063 saying, H559 (QalInf) Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 Forasmuch as H3282 thou hast disobeyed H4784 (QalPerf) the mouth H6310 of the Lord, H3068 and hast not kept H8104 (QalPerf) the commandment H4687 which the Lord H3068 thy God H430 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) thee,

and he calleth unto the man of God who came from Judah, saying, ‘Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and hast not kept the command that Jehovah thy God charged thee,

but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water,” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.’ ”

But camest back, H7725 (QalImpf) and hast eaten H398 (QalImpf) bread H3899 and drunk H8354 (QalImpf) water H4325 in the place, H4725 of the which [the Lord] did say H1696 (PielPerf) to thee, Eat H398 (QalImpf) no bread, H3899 and drink H8354 (QalImpf) no water; H4325 thy carcase H5038 shall not come H935 (QalImpf) unto the sepulchre H6913 of thy fathers. and turnest back and dost eat bread and drink water in the place of which He said unto thee, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water-thy carcase cometh not in unto the burying-place of thy fathers.’

Behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.

And, behold, men H582 passed by, H5674 (QalActPtc) and saw H7200 (QalImpf) the carcase H5038 cast H7993 (HophPtc) in the way, H1870 and the lion H738 standing H5975 (QalActPtc) by H681 the carcase: H5038 and they came H935 (QalImpf) and told H1696 (PielImpf) [it] in the city H5892 where the old H2205 prophet H5030 dwelt. And lo, men are passing by, and see the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing near the carcase, and they come and speak of it in the city in which the old prophet is dwelling.

The prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. He came to the city of the old prophet to mourn, and to bury him.

And the prophet H5030 took up H5375 (QalImpf) the carcase H5038 of the man H376 of God, H430 and laid H3240 (HiphImpf) it upon the ass, H2543 and brought it back: H7725 (HiphImpf) and the old H2205 prophet H5030 came H935 (QalImpf) to the city, H5892 to mourn H5594 (QalInf) and to bury H6912 (QalInf) him.

And the prophet taketh up the carcase of the man of God, and placeth it on the ass, and bringeth it back, and the old prophet cometh in unto the city to mourn and to bury him,

Take with you ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child.”

And take H3947 (QalPerf) with thee H3027 ten H6235 loaves, H3899 and cracknels, H5350 and a cruse H1228 of honey, H1706 and go H935 (QalPerf) to him: he shall tell H5046 (HiphImpf) thee what shall become of the child. H5288

and thou hast taken in thy hand ten loaves, and crumbs, and a bottle of honey, and hast gone in unto him; he doth declare to thee what becometh of the youth.’

Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose and went to Shiloh, and came to Ahijah’s house. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

And Jeroboam’s H3379 wife H802 did so, H6213 (QalImpf) and arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) to Shiloh, H7887 and came H935 (QalImpf) to the house H1004 of Ahijah. And the wife of Jeroboam doth so, and riseth, and goeth to Shiloh, and entereth the house of Ahijah, and Ahijah is not able to see, for his eyes have stood because of his age.

Yahweh said to Ahijah, “Behold, Jeroboam’s wife is coming to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Tell her such and such; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalPerf) unto Ahijah, H281 Behold, the wife H802 of Jeroboam H3379 cometh H935 (QalActPtc) to ask H1875 (QalInf) a thing H1697 of thee for her son; H1121 for he [is] sick: H2470 (QalActPtc) thus H2090 and thus shalt thou say H1696 (PielImpf) unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, H935 (QalInf) that she shall feign herself [to be] another H5234 (HithPtc) [woman].

And Jehovah said unto Ahijah, ‘Lo, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek a word from thee concerning her son, for he is sick; thus and thus thou dost speak unto her, and it cometh to pass at her coming in, that she is making herself strange.’

So when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, he said, “Come in, Jeroboam’s wife! Why do you pretend to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy news.

And it was [so], when Ahijah H281 heard H8085 (QalInf) the sound H6963 of her feet, H7272 as she came in H935 (QalActPtc) at the door, H6607 that he said, H559 (QalImpf) Come in, H935 (QalImpv) thou wife H802 of Jeroboam; H3379 why feignest thou thyself [to be] another? H5234 (HithPtc) for I [am] sent H7971 (QalPasPtc) to thee [with] heavy H7186 [tidings].

And it cometh to pass, at Ahijah’s hearing the sound of her feet as she came in to the opening, that he saith, ‘Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why is this-thou art making thyself strange? and I am sent unto thee with a sharp thing:

therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall,^§ he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweeps away dung until it is all gone.

‘Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall-shut up and left-in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one putteth away the dung till its consumption;

Arise therefore, and go to your house. When your feet enter into the city, the child will die.

Arise H6965 (QalImpv) thou therefore, get H3212 (QalImpv) thee to thine own house: H1004 [and] when thy feet H7272 enter H935 (QalInf) into the city, H5892 the child H3206 shall die. H4191 (QalPerf)

‘And thou, rise, go to thy house; in the going in of thy feet to the city-hath the lad died;

All Israel will mourn for him and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

And all Israel H3478 shall mourn H5594 (QalPerf) for him, and bury H6912 (QalPerf) him: for he only of Jeroboam H3379 shall come H935 (QalImpf) to the grave, H6913 because in him there is found H4672 (NiphPerf) [some] good H2896 thing H1697 toward the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478 in the house H1004 of Jeroboam. and all Israel have mourned for him, and buried him, for this one-by himself-cometh of Jeroboam unto a grave, because there hath been found in him a good thing towards Jehovah, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

Jeroboam’s wife arose and departed, and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.

And Jeroboam’s H3379 wife H802 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and departed, H3212 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) to Tirzah: H8656 [and] when she came H935 (QalActPtc) to the threshold H5592 of the door, H1004 the child H5288 died; H4191 (QalPerf)

And the wife of Jeroboam riseth, and goeth, and cometh to Tirzah; she hath come in to the threshold of the house, and the youth dieth;

It was so, that as often as the king went into Yahweh’s house, the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard room.

And it was [so], when H1767 the king H4428 went H935 (QalInf) into the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 that the guard H7323 (QalPtc) bare H5375 (QalImpf) them, and brought them back H7725 (HiphPerf) into the guard H7323 (QalPtc) chamber. H8372

and it cometh to pass, from the going in of the king to the house of Jehovah, the runners bear them, and have brought them back unto the chamber of the runners.

He brought into Yahweh’s house the things that his father had dedicated, and the things that he himself had dedicated: silver, gold, and utensils.

And he brought H935 (HiphImpf) in the things H6944 which his father H1 had dedicated, H6944 and the things which himself had dedicated, H6944 into the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 silver, H3701 and gold, H2091 and vessels. H3627

and he bringeth in the sanctified things of his father, and his own sanctified things, to the house of Jehovah, silver, and gold, and vessels.

Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not allow anyone to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

And Baasha H1201 king H4428 of Israel H3478 went up H5927 (QalImpf) against Judah, H3063 and built H1129 (QalImpf) Ramah, H7414 that he might not suffer H5414 (QalInf) any to go out H3318 (QalActPtc) or come in H935 (QalActPtc) to Asa H609 king H4428 of Judah. H3063

and Baasha king of Israel goeth up against Judah, and buildeth Ramah, not to permit any one going out and coming in to Asa king of Judah.

and Zimri went in and struck him and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.

And Zimri H2174 went in H935 (QalImpf) and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) him, and killed H4191 (HiphImpf) him, in the twenty H6242 and seventh H7651 year H8141 of Asa H609 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 and reigned H4427 (QalImpf) in his stead.

And Zimri cometh in and smiteth him, and putteth him to death, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigneth in his stead;

When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the fortified part of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire, and died,

And it cometh to pass, at Zimri’s seeing that the city hath been captured, that he cometh in unto a high place of the house of the king, and burneth over him the house of the king with fire, and dieth,

The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.”

And he riseth, and goeth to Zarephath, and cometh in unto the opening of the city, and lo there, a widow woman gathering sticks, and he calleth unto her, and saith, ‘Bring, I pray thee, to me, a little water in a vessel, and I drink.’

She said, “As Yahweh your God lives, I don’t have anything baked, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jar. Behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

And she saith, ‘Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but the fulness of the hand of meal in a pitcher, and a little oil in a dish; and lo, I am gathering two sticks, and have gone in and prepared it for myself, and for my son, and we have eaten it-and died.’

Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you have said; but make me a little cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son.

And Elijah saith unto her, ‘Fear not, go, do according to thy word, only make for me thence a little cake, in the first place, and thou hast brought out to me; and for thee and for thy son make-last;

She said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”

And she saith unto Elijah, ‘What-to me and to thee, O man of God? thou hast come unto me to cause mine iniquity to be remembered, and to put my son to death!’

It will happen, as soon as I leave you, that Yahweh’s Spirit will carry you I don’t know where; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he can’t find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared Yahweh from my youth.

And it shall come to pass, [as soon as] I am gone H3212 (QalImpf) from thee, that the Spirit H7307 of the Lord H3068 shall carry H5375 (QalImpf) thee whither I know H3045 (QalImpf) not; and [so] when I come H935 (QalPerf) and tell H5046 (HiphInf) Ahab, H256 and he cannot find H4672 (QalImpf) thee, he shall slay H2026 (QalPerf) me: but I thy servant H5650 fear H3372 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 from my youth. and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.

Yahweh’s hand was on Elijah; and he tucked his cloak into his belt and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.

When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

And when he saw H7200 (QalImpf) [that], he arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) for his life, H5315 and came H935 (QalImpf) to Beersheba, H884 which [belongeth] to Judah, H3063 and left H3240 (HiphImpf) his servant H5288 there.

And he feareth, and riseth, and goeth for his life, and cometh in to Beer-Sheba, that is Judah’s, and leaveth his young man there,

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O Yahweh, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

and he himself hath gone into the wilderness a day’s Journey, and cometh and sitteth under a certain retem-tree, and desireth his soul to die, and saith, ‘Enough, now, O Jehovah, take my soul, for I am not better than my fathers.’

He came to a cave there, and camped there; and behold, Yahweh’s word came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

And he cometh in there, unto the cave, and lodgeth there, and lo, the word of Jehovah is unto him, and saith to him, ‘What-to thee, here, Elijah?’

Yahweh said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Go, H3212 (QalImpv) return H7725 (QalImpv) on thy way H1870 to the wilderness H4057 of Damascus: H1834 and when thou comest, H935 (QalPerf) anoint H4886 (QalPerf) Hazael H2371 [to be] king H4428 over Syria: H758

And Jehovah saith unto him, ‘Go turn back on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus, and thou hast gone in, and anointed Hazael for king over Aram,

But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled and came into the city, into an inner room.

And those left flee to Aphek, unto the city, and the wall falleth on twenty and seven chief men who are left, and Ben-Hadad hath fled, and cometh in unto the city, into the innermost part.

So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’ ” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

And they gird sackcloth on their loins, and ropes are on their heads, and they come in unto the king of Israel, and say, ‘Thy servant Ben-Hadad hath said, Let me live, I pray thee;’ and he saith, ‘Is he yet alive? he is my brother.’

Now the men observed diligently and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

And the men observe diligently, and hasten, and catch it from him, and say, ‘Thy brother Ben-Hadad;’ and he saith, ‘Go ye in, bring him;’ and Ben-Hadad cometh out unto him, and he causeth him to come up on the chariot.

As the king passed by, he cried to the king, and he said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent° of silver.’

And as the king H4428 passed by, H5674 (QalActPtc) he cried H6817 (QalPerf) unto the king: H4428 and he said, H559 (QalImpf) Thy servant H5650 went out H3318 (QalPerf) into the midst H7130 of the battle; H4421 and, behold, a man H376 turned aside, H5493 (QalPerf) and brought H935 (HiphImpf) a man H376 unto me, and said, H559 (QalImpf) Keep H8104 (QalImpv) this man: H376 if by any means H6485 (NiphInf) he be missing, H6485 (NiphImpf) then shall thy life H5315 be for his life, H5315 or else thou shalt pay H8254 (QalImpf) a talent H3603 of silver. And it cometh to pass-the king is passing by-that he hath cried unto the king, and saith, ‘Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle, and lo, a man hath turned aside and bringeth in unto me a man, and saith, Keep this man; if he be at all missing, then hath thy life been for his life, or a talent of silver thou dost weigh out;

The king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.

and the king of Israel goeth unto his house, sulky and wroth, and cometh in to Samaria.

Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

and Ahab cometh in unto his house, sulky and wroth, because of the word that Naboth the Jezreelite hath spoken unto him when he saith, ‘I do not give to thee the inheritance of my fathers,’ and he lieth down on his bed, and turneth round his face, and hath not eaten bread.

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sad that you eat no bread?”

But Jezebel H348 his wife H802 came H935 (QalImpf) to him, and said H1696 (PielImpf) unto him, Why is thy spirit H7307 so sad, H5620 that thou eatest H398 (QalActPtc) no bread? H3899

And Jezebel his wife cometh in unto him, and speaketh unto him, ‘What is this?-thy spirit sulky, and thou art not eating bread!’
