Then Samuel told the people the regulations of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before Yahweh. Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

Saul also went to his house in Gibeah; and the army went with him, whose hearts God had touched.

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”

Saul took him that day, and wouldn’t let him go home to his father’s house any more.

And Saul H7586 took H3947 (QalImpf) him that day, H3117 and would let H5414 (QalPerf) him go no more home H7725 (QalInf) to his father’s H1 house. H1004

On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;

An evil spirit from Yahweh was on Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing music with his hand.

And the evil H7451 spirit H7307 from the Lord H3068 was upon Saul, H7586 as he sat H3427 (QalActPtc) in his house H1004 with his javelin H2595 in his hand: H3027 and David H1732 played H5059 (PielPtc) with [his] hand. H3027

και εγενετο πνευμα θεου πονηρον επι σαουλ και αυτος εν οικω καθευδων και δορυ εν τη χειρι αυτου και δαυιδ εψαλλεν εν ταις χερσιν αυτου

Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, “If you don’t save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”

και εγενηθη εν τη νυκτι εκεινη και απεστειλεν σαουλ αγγελους εις οικον δαυιδ φυλαξαι αυτον του θανατωσαι αυτον πρωι και απηγγειλεν τω δαυιδ μελχολ η γυνη αυτου λεγουσα εαν μη συ σωσης την ψυχην σαυτου την νυκτα ταυτην αυριον θανατωθηση

but you shall also not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when Yahweh has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the surface of the earth.”

So Jonathan made a covenant with David’s house, saying, “Yahweh will require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”

David therefore departed from there and escaped to Adullam’s cave. When his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.

Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me! Don’t let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.”

η σημερον ηργμαι ερωταν αυτω δια του θεου μηδαμως μη δοτω ο βασιλευς κατα του δουλου αυτου λογον και εφ ολον τον οικον του πατρος μου οτι ουκ ηδει ο δουλος ο σος εν πασιν τουτοις ρημα μικρον η μεγα

The king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.”

David said to Abiathar, “I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of all the persons of your father’s house.

και ειπεν δαυιδ τω αβιαθαρ ηιδειν εν τη ημερα εκεινη οτι δωηκ ο συρος οτι απαγγελλων απαγγελει τω σαουλ εγω ειμι αιτιος των ψυχων οικου του πατρος σου

They both made a covenant before Yahweh. Then David stayed in the woods and Jonathan went to his house.

And they two H8147 made H3772 (QalImpf) a covenant H1285 before H6440 the Lord: H3068 and David H1732 abode H3427 (QalImpf) in the wood, H2793 and Jonathan H3083 went H1980 (QalPerf) to his house. H1004

Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”

^[24:22] και νυν ομοσον μοι εν κυριω οτι ουκ εξολεθρευσεις το σπερμα μου οπισω μου και ουκ αφανιεις το ονομα μου εκ του οικου του πατρος μου

David swore to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

Samuel died; and all Israel gathered themselves together and mourned for him, and buried him at his house at Ramah. Then David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

Tell him, ‘Long life to you! Peace be to you! Peace be to your house! Peace be to all that you have!

Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master and against all his house, for he is such a worthless fellow that one can’t speak to him.”

και νυν γνωθι και ιδε τι συ ποιησεις οτι συντετελεσται η κακια εις τον κυριον ημων και εις τον οικον αυτου και ουτος υιος λοιμος και ουκ εστιν λαλησαι προς αυτον

Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Yahweh will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights Yahweh’s battles. Evil will not be found in you all your days.

αρον δη το ανομημα της δουλης σου οτι ποιων ποιησει κυριος τω κυριω μου οικον πιστον οτι πολεμον κυριου ο κυριος μου πολεμει και κακια ουχ ευρεθησεται εν σοι πωποτε

So David received from her hand that which she had brought him. Then he said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. Behold, I have listened to your voice and have granted your request.”

David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.

The woman had a fattened calf in the house. She hurried and killed it; and she took flour and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread of it.

They mourned, wept, and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Yahweh,^§ and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

και εκοψαντο και εκλαυσαν και ενηστευσαν εως δειλης επι σαουλ και επι ιωναθαν τον υιον αυτου και επι τον λαον ιουδα και επι τον οικον ισραηλ οτι επληγησαν εν ρομφαια

David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.

The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were those who buried Saul.”

και ερχονται ανδρες της ιουδαιας και χριουσιν τον δαυιδ εκει του βασιλευειν επι τον οικον ιουδα και απηγγειλαν τω δαυιδ λεγοντες οτι οι ανδρες ιαβις της γαλααδιτιδος εθαψαν τον σαουλ

Now therefore let your hands be strong, and be valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.”

Therefore now let your hands H3027 be strengthened, H2388 (QalImpf) and be ye valiant: H1121 H2428 for your master H113 Saul H7586 is dead, H4191 (QalPerf) and also the house H1004 of Judah H3063 have anointed H4886 (QalPerf) me king H4428 over them.

και νυν κραταιουσθωσαν αι χειρες υμων και γινεσθε εις υιους δυνατους οτι τεθνηκεν ο κυριος υμων σαουλ και γε εμε κεχρικεν ο οικος ιουδα εφ εαυτους εις βασιλεα

Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

τεσσαρακοντα ετων ιεβοσθε υιος σαουλ οτε εβασιλευσεν επι τον ισραηλ και δυο ετη εβασιλευσεν πλην του οικου ιουδα οι ησαν οπισω δαυιδ

The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

And the time H4557 H3117 that David H1732 was king H4428 in Hebron H2275 over the house H1004 of Judah H3063 was seven H7651 years H8141 and six H8337 months. H2320

και εγενοντο αι ημεραι ας δαυιδ εβασιλευσεν εν χεβρων επι τον οικον ιουδα επτα ετη και εξ μηνας

Now there was long war between Saul’s house and David’s house. David grew stronger and stronger, but Saul’s house grew weaker and weaker.

While there was war between Saul’s house and David’s house, Abner made himself strong in Saul’s house.

και εγενετο εν τω ειναι τον πολεμον ανα μεσον του οικου σαουλ και ανα μεσον του οικου δαυιδ και αβεννηρ ην κρατων του οικου σαουλ

Then Abner was very angry about Ishbosheth’s words, and said, “Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show kindness to your father Saul’s house, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and yet you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman!
