[1] Yahweh’s word came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying, [2] “Because I exalted you out of the dust and made you prince over my people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins, [3] behold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house; and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. [4] The dogs will eat Baasha’s descendants who die in the city; and he who dies of his in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.” [5] Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? [6] Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah his son reigned in his place. [7] Moreover Yahweh’s word came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he struck him. [8] In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah for two years. [9] His servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah; [10] and Zimri went in and struck him and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. [11] When he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, he attacked all the house of Baasha. He didn’t leave him a single one who urinates on a wall§ among his relatives or his friends. [12] Thus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet, [13] for all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned and with which they made Israel to sin, to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities. [14] Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? [15] In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. [16] The people who were encamped heard that Zimri had conspired, and had also killed the king. Therefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. [17] Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah. [18] When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the fortified part of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire, and died, [19] for his sins which he sinned in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did to make Israel to sin. [20] Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he committed, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? [21] Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. [22] But the people who followed Omri prevailed against the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath; so Tibni died, and Omri reigned. [23] In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel for twelve years. He reigned six years in Tirzah. [24] He bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill. [25] Omri did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and dealt wickedly above all who were before him. [26] For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sins with which he made Israel to sin, to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities. [27] Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his might that he showed, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? [28] So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria; and Ahab his son reigned in his place. [29] In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel. Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. [30] Ahab the son of Omri did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight above all that were before him. [31] As if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him. [32] He raised up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. [33] Ahab made the Asherah; and Ahab did more yet to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. [34] In his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. He laid its foundation with the loss of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

[1] Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 came to JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 against Baasha,H1201 saying,H559(QalInf) [2] Forasmuch as I exaltedH7311(HiphPerf) thee out of the dust,H6083 and madeH5414(QalImpf) thee princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 Israel;H3478 and thou hast walkedH3212(QalImpf) in the wayH1870 of Jeroboam,H3379 and hast made my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 to sin,H2398(HiphImpf) to provoke me to angerH3707(HiphInf) with their sins;H2403 [3] Behold, I will take awayH1197(HiphImpf) the posterityH310 of Baasha,H1201 and the posterityH310 of his house;H1004 and will makeH5414(QalPerf) thy houseH1004 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of Nebat.H5028 [4] Him that diethH4191(QalPtc) of BaashaH1201 in the cityH5892 shall the dogsH3611 eat;H398(QalImpf) and him that diethH4191(QalPtc) of his in the fieldsH7704 shall the fowlsH5775 of the airH8064 eat.H398(QalImpf) [5] Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Baasha,H1201 and what he did,H6213(QalPerf) and his might,H1369 [are] they not writtenH3789(QalPasPtc) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of Israel?H3478 [6] So BaashaH1201 sleptH7901(QalImpf) with his fathers,H1 and was buriedH6912(NiphImpf) in Tirzah:H8656 and ElahH425 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead. [7] And also by the handH3027 of the prophetH5030 JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 came the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 against Baasha,H1201 and against his house,H1004 even for all the evilH7451 that he didH6213(QalPerf) in the sightH5869 of the Lord,H3068 in provoking him to angerH3707(HiphInf) with the workH4639 of his hands,H3027 in being like the houseH1004 of Jeroboam;H3379 and because he killedH5221(HiphPerf) him. [8] In the twentyH6242 and sixthH8337 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began ElahH425 the sonH1121 of BaashaH1201 to reignH4427(QalPerf) over IsraelH3478 in Tirzah,H8656 two years.H8141 [9] And his servantH5650 Zimri,H2174 captainH8269 of halfH4276 [his] chariots,H7393 conspiredH7194(QalImpf) against him, as he was in Tirzah,H8656 drinkingH8354(QalActPtc) himself drunkH7910 in the houseH1004 of ArzaH777 steward of [his] houseH1004 in Tirzah.H8656 [10] And ZimriH2174 went inH935(QalImpf) and smoteH5221(HiphImpf) him, and killedH4191(HiphImpf) him, in the twentyH6242 and seventhH7651 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 and reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead. [11] And it came to pass, when he began to reign,H4427(QalInf) as soon as he satH3427(QalInf) on his throne,H3678 [that] he slewH5221(HiphPerf) all the houseH1004 of Baasha:H1201 he leftH7604(HiphPerf) him not one that pissethH8366(HiphPtc) against a wall,H7023 neither of his kinsfolks,H1350(QalActPtc) nor of his friends.H7453 [12] Thus did ZimriH2174 destroyH8045(HiphImpf) all the houseH1004 of Baasha,H1201 according to the wordH1697 of the Lord,H3068 which he spakeH1696(PielPerf) against BaashaH1201 byH3027 JehuH3058 the prophet,H5030 [13] For all the sinsH2403 of Baasha,H1201 and the sinsH2403 of ElahH425 his son,H1121 by which they sinned,H2398(QalPerf) and by which they made IsraelH3478 to sin,H2398(HiphPerf) in provoking the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 to angerH3707(HiphInf) with their vanities.H1892 [14] Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Elah,H425 and all that he did,H6213(QalPerf) [are] they not writtenH3789(QalPasPtc) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of Israel?H3478 [15] In the twentyH6242 and seventhH7651 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 did ZimriH2174 reignH4427(QalPerf) sevenH7651 daysH3117 in Tirzah.H8656 And the peopleH5971 [were] encampedH2583(QalActPtc) against Gibbethon,H1405 which [belonged] to the Philistines.H6430 [16] And the peopleH5971 [that were] encampedH2583(QalActPtc) heardH8085(QalImpf) say,H559(QalInf) ZimriH2174 hath conspired,H7194(QalPerf) and hath also slainH5221(HiphPerf) the king:H4428 wherefore all IsraelH3478 made Omri,H6018 the captainH8269 of the host,H6635 kingH4427(HiphImpf) over IsraelH3478 that dayH3117 in the camp.H4264 [17] And OmriH6018 went upH5927(QalImpf) from Gibbethon,H1405 and all IsraelH3478 with him, and they besiegedH6696(QalImpf) Tirzah.H8656 [18] And it came to pass, when ZimriH2174 sawH7200(QalInf) that the cityH5892 was taken,H3920(NiphPerf) that he wentH935(QalImpf) into the palaceH759 of the king’sH4428 house,H1004 and burntH8313(QalImpf) the king’sH4428 houseH1004 over him with fire,H784 and died,H4191(QalImpf) [19] For his sinsH2403 which he sinnedH2398(QalPerf) in doingH6213(QalInf) evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the Lord,H3068 in walkingH3212(QalInf) in the wayH1870 of Jeroboam,H3379 and in his sinH2403 which he did,H6213(QalPerf) to make IsraelH3478 to sin.H2398(HiphInf) [20] Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Zimri,H2174 and his treasonH7195 that he wrought,H7194(QalPerf) [are] they not writtenH3789(QalPasPtc) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of Israel?H3478 [21] Then were the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 dividedH2505(NiphImpf) into two parts:H2677 halfH2677 of the peopleH5971 followedH1961(QalPerf) TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of Ginath,H1527 to make him king;H4427(HiphInf) and halfH2677 followedH310 Omri.H6018 [22] But the peopleH5971 that followedH310 OmriH6018 prevailedH2388(QalImpf) againstH854 the peopleH5971 that followedH310 TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of Ginath:H1527 so TibniH8402 died,H4191(QalImpf) and OmriH6018 reigned.H4427(QalImpf) [23] In the thirtyH7970 and firstH259 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began OmriH6018 to reignH4427(QalPerf) over Israel,H3478 twelveH8147 years:H8141 sixH8337 yearsH8141 reignedH4427(QalPerf) he in Tirzah.H8656 [24] And he boughtH7069(QalImpf) the hillH2022 SamariaH8111 of ShemerH8106 for two talentsH3603 of silver,H3701 and builtH1129(QalImpf) on the hill,H2022 and calledH7121(QalImpf) the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 which he built,H1129(QalPerf) after the nameH8034 of Shemer,H8106 ownerH113 of the hill,H2022 Samaria.H8111 [25] But OmriH6018 wroughtH6213(QalImpf) evilH7451 in the eyesH5869 of the Lord,H3068 and did worseH7489(HiphImpf) than all that [were] beforeH6440 him. [26] For he walkedH3212(QalImpf) in all the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of Nebat,H5028 and in his sinH2403 wherewith he made IsraelH3478 to sin,H2398(HiphPerf) to provoke the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 to angerH3707(HiphInf) with their vanities.H1892 [27] Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of OmriH6018 which he did,H6213(QalPerf) and his mightH1369 that he shewed,H6213(QalPerf) [are] they not writtenH3789(QalPasPtc) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of Israel?H3478 [28] So OmriH6018 sleptH7901(QalImpf) with his fathers,H1 and was buriedH6912(NiphImpf) in Samaria:H8111 and AhabH256 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead. [29] And in the thirtyH7970 and eighthH8083 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 to reignH4427(QalPerf) over Israel:H3478 and AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 reignedH4427(QalImpf) over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 twentyH6242 and twoH8147 years.H8141 [30] And AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 didH6213(QalImpf) evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 above all that [were] beforeH6440 him. [31] And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thingH7043(NiphPerf) for him to walkH3212(QalInf) in the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of Nebat,H5028 that he tookH3947(QalImpf) to wifeH802 JezebelH348 the daughterH1323 of EthbaalH856 kingH4428 of the Zidonians,H6722 and wentH3212(QalImpf) and servedH5647(QalImpf) Baal,H1168 and worshippedH7812(HithImpf) him. [32] And he reared upH6965(HiphImpf) an altarH4196 for BaalH1168 in the houseH1004 of Baal,H1168 which he had builtH1129(QalPerf) in Samaria.H8111 [33] And AhabH256 madeH6213(QalImpf) a grove;H842 and AhabH256 didH6213(QalInf) moreH3254(HiphImpf) to provoke the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 to angerH3707(HiphInf) than all the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 that were beforeH6440 him. [34] In his daysH3117 did HielH2419 the BetheliteH1017 buildH1129(QalPerf) Jericho:H3405 he laid the foundationH3245(PielPerf) thereof in AbiramH48 his firstborn,H1060 and set upH5324(HiphPerf) the gatesH1817 thereof in his youngestH6810 [son] Segub,H7687 according to the wordH1697 of the Lord,H3068 which he spakeH1696(PielPerf) byH3027 JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of Nun.H5126
