[1] When Solomon had finished the building of Yahweh’s house, the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do, [2] Yahweh appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. [3] Yahweh said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before me. I have made this house holy, which you have built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually. [4] As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances, [5] then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.’ [6] But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, [7] then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. [8] Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?’ [9] and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil on them.’ ” [10] At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, Yahweh’s house and the king’s house [11] (now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and cypress trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. [12] Hiram came out of Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they didn’t please him. [13] He said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” He called them the land of Cabulⓘ to this day. [14] Hiram sent to the king one hundred twenty talentsⓘ of gold. [15] This is the reason of the forced labor which King Solomon conscripted: to build Yahweh’s house, his own house, Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. [16] Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, taken Gezer, burned it with fire, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. [17] Solomon built in the land Gezer, Beth Horon the lower, [18] Baalath, Tamar in the wilderness, [19] all the storage cities that Solomon had, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. [20] As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel— [21] their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy—of them Solomon raised a levy of bondservants to this day. [22] But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen. [23] These were the five hundred fifty chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, who ruled over the people who labored in the work. [24] But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo. [25] Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to Yahweh three times per year, burning incense with them on the altar that was before Yahweh. So he finished the house. [26] King Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. [27] Hiram sent in the fleet his servants, sailors who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon. [28] They came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents,ⓘ and brought it to King Solomon.

[1] And it came to pass, when SolomonH8010 had finishedH3615(PielInf) the buildingH1129(QalInf) of the houseH1004 of the Lord,H3068 and the king’sH4428 house,H1004 and all Solomon’sH8010 desireH2837 which he was pleasedH2654(QalPerf) to do,H6213(QalInf) [2] That the LordH3068 appearedH7200(NiphImpf) to SolomonH8010 the second time,H8145 as he had appearedH7200(NiphPerf) unto him at Gibeon.H1391 [3] And the LordH3068 saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, I have heardH8085(QalPerf) thy prayerH8605 and thy supplication,H8467 that thou hast madeH2603(HithPerf) beforeH6440 me: I have hallowedH6942(HiphPerf) this house,H1004 which thou hast built,H1129(QalPerf) to putH7760(QalInf) my nameH8034 there forH5704 ever;H5769 and mine eyesH5869 and mine heartH3820 shall be there perpetually.H3117 [4] And if thou wilt walkH3212(QalImpf) beforeH6440 me, as DavidH1732 thy fatherH1 walked,H1980(QalPerf) in integrityH8537 of heart,H3824 and in uprightness,H3476 to doH6213(QalInf) according to all that I have commandedH6680(PielPerf) thee, [and] wilt keepH8104(QalImpf) my statutesH2706 and my judgments:H4941 [5] Then I will establishH6965(HiphPerf) the throneH3678 of thy kingdomH4467 upon IsraelH3478 for ever,H5769 as I promisedH1696(PielPerf) to DavidH1732 thy father,H1 saying,H559(QalInf) There shall not failH3772(NiphImpf) thee a manH376 upon the throneH3678 of Israel.H3478 [6] [But] if ye shall at allH7725(QalInf) turnH7725(QalImpf) from followingH310 me, ye or your children,H1121 and will not keepH8104(QalImpf) my commandmentsH4687 [and] my statutesH2708 which I have setH5414(QalPerf) beforeH6440 you, but goH1980(QalPerf) and serveH5647(QalPerf) otherH312 gods,H430 and worshipH7812(HithPerf) them: [7] Then will I cut offH3772(HiphPerf) IsraelH3478 outH6440 of the landH127 which I have givenH5414(QalPerf) them; and this house,H1004 which I have hallowedH6942(HiphPerf) for my name,H8034 will I cast outH7971(PielImpf) of my sight;H6440 and IsraelH3478 shall be a proverbH4912 and a bywordH8148 among all people:H5971 [8] And at this house,H1004 [which] is high,H5945 every one that passethH5674(QalActPtc) by it shall be astonished,H8074(QalImpf) and shall hiss;H8319(QalPerf) and they shall say,H559(QalPerf) Why hath the LordH3068 doneH6213(QalPerf) thus unto this land,H776 and to this house?H1004 [9] And they shall answer,H559(QalPerf) Because they forsookH5800(QalPerf) the LordH3068 their God,H430 who brought forthH3318(HiphPerf) their fathersH1 out of the landH776 of Egypt,H4714 and have taken holdH2388(HiphImpf) upon otherH312 gods,H430 and have worshippedH7812(HithImpf) them, and servedH5647(QalImpf) them: therefore hath the LordH3068 broughtH935(HiphPerf) upon them all this evil.H7451 [10] And it came to pass at the endH7097 of twentyH6242 years,H8141 when SolomonH8010 had builtH1129(QalPerf) the twoH8147 houses,H1004 the houseH1004 of the Lord,H3068 and the king’sH4428 house,H1004 [11] ([Now] HiramH2438 the kingH4428 of TyreH6865 had furnishedH5375(PielPerf) SolomonH8010 with cedarH730 treesH6086 and firH1265 trees,H6086 and with gold,H2091 according to all his desire,H2656) that thenH227 kingH4428 SolomonH8010 gaveH5414(QalImpf) HiramH2438 twentyH6242 citiesH5892 in the landH776 of Galilee.H1551 [12] And HiramH2438 came outH3318(QalImpf) from TyreH6865 to seeH7200(QalInf) the citiesH5892 which SolomonH8010 had givenH5414(QalPerf) him; and they pleasedH3474(QalPerf) him not.
