[1] The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. [2] As it is written in the prophets,
“Behold,§ I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you:†
[3] the voice of one crying in the wilderness,
‘Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!’ ”† [4] John came baptizing§ in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins. [5] All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins. [6] John was clothed with camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. [7] He preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen. [8] I baptized you in§ water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.” [9] In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. [10] Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. [11] A voice came out of the sky, “You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” [12] Immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness. [13] He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels were serving him. [14] Now after John was taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Good News of God’s Kingdom, [15] and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News.” [16] Passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. [17] Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men.” [18] Immediately they left their nets, and followed him. [19] Going on a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. [20] Immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. [21] They went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. [22] They were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. [23] Immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, [24] saying, “Ha! What do we have to do with you, Jesus, you Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God!” [25] Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” [26] The unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. [27] They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!” [28] The report of him went out immediately everywhere into all the region of Galilee and its surrounding area. [29] Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. [30] Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. [31] He came and took her by the hand and raised her up. The fever left her immediately,‡ and she served them. [32] At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed by demons. [33] All the city was gathered together at the door. [34] He healed many who were sick with various diseases and cast out many demons. He didn’t allow the demons to speak, because they knew him. [35] Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there. [36] Simon and those who were with him searched for him. [37] They found him and told him, “Everyone is looking for you.” [38] He said to them, “Let’s go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason.” [39] He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons. [40] A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, “If you want to, you can make me clean.” [41] Being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, “I want to. Be made clean.” [42] When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was made clean. [43] He strictly warned him and immediately sent him out, [44] and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anybody, but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.” [45] But he went out, and began to proclaim it much, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places. People came to him from everywhere.

cryingG994(PresActPtc) inG1722 the wilderness,G2048 Prepare yeG2090(AorActImpr) the wayG3598 of the Lord,G2962 makeG4160(PresActImpr) hisG846 pathsG5147 straight.G2117 [4] JohnG2491 didG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) baptizeG907(PresActPtc) inG1722 the wilderness,G2048 andG2532 preachG2784(PresActPtc) the baptismG908 of repentanceG3341 forG1519 the remissionG859 of sins.G266 [5] AndG2532 there went outG1607(ImpfMidPasDepInd) untoG4314 himG846 allG3956 the landG5561 of Judaea,G2449 andG2532 they of Jerusalem,G2415 andG2532 wereG907 allG3956 baptizedG907(ImpfPasInd) ofG5259 himG846 inG1722 the riverG4215 of Jordan,G2446 confessingG1843(PresMidPtc) theirG846 sins.G266 [6] AndG1161 JohnG2491 wasG2258(ImpfInd) clothedG1746(PerfMidPtc) with camel’sG2574 hair,G2359 andG2532 with a girdleG2223 of a skinG1193 aboutG4012 hisG846 loins;G3751 andG2532 he did eatG2068(PresActPtc) locustsG200 andG2532 wildG66 honey;G3192 [7] AndG2532 preached,G2784(ImpfActInd) saying,G3004(PresActPtc) There comethG2064(PresMidPasDepInd) one mightier thanG2478 IG3450 afterG3694 me,G3450 the latchetG2438 of whoseG3739 shoesG846 I amG1510(PresInd) notG3756 worthyG2425 to stoop downG2955(AorActPtc) and unloose.G3089(AorActInf) [8] IG1473 indeedG3303 have baptizedG907(AorActInd) youG5209 withG1722 water:G5204 butG1161 heG846 shall baptizeG907(FutActInd) youG5209 withG1722 the HolyG40 Ghost.G4151 [9] AndG2532 it came to passG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) inG1722 thoseG1565 days,G2250 that JesusG2424 cameG2064(Aor2ActInd) fromG575 NazarethG3478 of Galilee,G1056 andG2532 was baptizedG907(AorPasInd) ofG5259 JohnG2491 inG1519 Jordan.G2446 [10] AndG2532 straightwayG2112 coming upG305(PresActPtc) out ofG575 the water,G5204 he sawG1492(Aor2ActInd) the heavensG3772 opened,G4977(PresPasPtc) andG2532 the SpiritG4151 likeG5616 a doveG4058 descendingG2597(PresActPtc) uponG1909 him:G846 [11] AndG2532 there cameG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) a voiceG5456 fromG1537 heaven,G3772 [saying], ThouG4771 artG1488(PresInd) myG3450 belovedG27 Son,G5207 inG1722 whomG3739 I am well pleased.G2106(AorActInd) [12] AndG2532 immediatelyG2117 the SpiritG4151 drivethG1544(PresActInd) himG846 intoG1519 the wilderness.G2048 [13] AndG2532 he wasG2258(ImpfInd) thereG1563 inG1722 the wildernessG2048 fortyG5062 days,G2250 temptedG3985(PresPasPtc) ofG5259 Satan;G4567 andG2532 wasG2258(ImpfInd) withG3326 the wild beasts;G2342 andG2532 the angelsG32 ministeredG1247(ImpfActInd) unto him.G846 [14] NowG1161 afterG3326 that JohnG2491 was put in prison,G3860(AorPasInf) JesusG2424 cameG2064(Aor2ActInd) intoG1519 Galilee,G1056 preachingG2784(PresActPtc) the gospelG2098 of the kingdomG932 of God,G2316 [15] AndG2532 saying,G3004(PresActPtc) The timeG2540 is fulfilled,G4137(PerfPasInd) andG2532 the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 is at hand:G1448(PerfActInd) repent ye,G3340(PresActImpr) andG2532 believeG4100(PresActImpr) the gospel.G2098 [16] NowG1161 as he walkedG4043(PresActPtc) byG3844 the seaG2281 of Galilee,G1056 he sawG1492(Aor2ActInd) SimonG4613 andG2532 AndrewG406 hisG846 brotherG80 castingG906(PresActPtc) a netG293 intoG1722 the sea:G2281 forG1063 they wereG2258(ImpfInd) fishers.G231 [17] AndG2532 JesusG2424 saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto them,G846 Come yeG1205(Impr) afterG3694 me,G3450 andG2532 I will makeG4160(FutActInd) youG5209 to becomeG1096(Aor2MidDepInf) fishersG231 of men.G444 [18] AndG2532 straightwayG2112 they forsookG863(Aor2ActPtc) theirG846 nets,G1350 and followedG190(AorActInd) him.G846 [19] AndG2532 when he had goneG4260 a littleG3641 furtherG4260(Aor2ActPtc) thence,G1564 he sawG1492(Aor2ActInd) JamesG2385 the [son]G3588 of Zebedee,G2199 andG2532 JohnG2491 hisG846 brother,G80 whoG846 alsoG2532 were inG1722 the shipG4143 mendingG2675(PresActPtc) their nets.G1350 [20] AndG2532 straightwayG2112 he calledG2564(AorActInd) them:G846 andG2532 they leftG863(Aor2ActPtc) theirG846 fatherG3962 ZebedeeG2199 inG1722 the shipG4143 withG3326 the hired servants,G3411 and wentG565(Aor2ActInd) afterG3694 him.G846 [21] AndG2532 they wentG1531(PresMidPasDepInd) intoG1519 Capernaum;G2584 andG2532 straightwayG2112 on the sabbath dayG4521 he enteredG1525(Aor2ActPtc) intoG1519 the synagogue,G4864 and taught.G1321(ImpfActInd) [22] AndG2532 they were astonishedG1605(ImpfPasInd) atG1909 hisG846 doctrine:G1322 forG1063 he taughtG1321(PresActPtc) themG846 asG5613 one that hadG2192(PresActPtc) authority,G1849 andG2532 notG3756 asG5613 the scribes.G1122 [23] AndG2532 there wasG2258(ImpfInd) inG1722 theirG846 synagogueG4864 a manG444 withG1722 an uncleanG169 spirit;G4151 andG2532 he cried out,G349(AorActInd) [24] Saying,G3004(PresActPtc) Let [us] alone;G1436 whatG5101 have weG2254 to doG2532 with thee,G4671 thou JesusG2424 of Nazareth?G3479 art thou comeG2064(Aor2ActInd) to destroyG622(AorActInf) us?G2248 I knowG1492(PerfActInd) theeG4571 whoG5101 thou art,G1488(PresInd) the Holy OneG40 of God.G2316 [25] AndG2532 JesusG2424 rebukedG2008(AorActInd) him,G846 saying,G3004(PresActPtc) Hold thy peace,G5392(AorPasImpr) andG2532 comeG1831(Aor2ActImpr) out ofG1537 him.G846 [26] AndG2532 when the uncleanG169 spiritG4151 had tornG4682(AorActPtc) him,G846 andG2532 criedG2896(AorActPtc) with a loudG3173 voice,G5456 he cameG1831(Aor2ActInd) out ofG1537 him.G846 [27] AndG2532 they wereG2284 allG3956 amazed,G2284(AorPasInd) insomuch thatG5620 they questionedG4802(PresActInf) amongG4314 themselves,G846 saying,G3004(PresActPtc) What thingG5101 isG2076(PresInd) this?G3778 whatG5101 newG2537 doctrineG1322 [is] this?G5124 forG3754 withG2596 authorityG1849 commandethG2004(PresActInd) he evenG2532 the uncleanG169 spirits,G4151 andG2532 they do obeyG5219(PresActInd) him.G846 [28] AndG1161 immediatelyG2117 hisG846 fameG189 spread abroadG1831(Aor2ActInd) throughoutG1519 allG3650 the region round aboutG4066 Galilee.G1056 [29] AndG2532 forthwith,G2112 when they were comeG1831(Aor2ActPtc) out ofG1537 the synagogue,G4864 they enteredG2064(Aor2ActInd) intoG1519 the houseG3614 of SimonG4613 andG2532 Andrew,G406 withG3326 JamesG2385 andG2532 John.G2491 [30] ButG1161 Simon’sG4613 wife’s motherG3994 layG2621(ImpfMidPasDepInd) sick of a fever,G4445(PresActPtc) andG2532 anonG2112 they tellG3004(PresActInd) himG846 ofG4012 her.G846 [31] AndG2532 he cameG4334(Aor2ActPtc) and tookG2902(AorActPtc) herG846 by the hand,G5495 and liftedG1453 herG846 up;G1453(AorActInd) andG2532 immediatelyG2112 the feverG4446 leftG863(AorActInd) her,G846 andG2532 she ministeredG1247(ImpfActInd) unto them.G846 [32] AndG1161 atG1096(Aor2MidDepPtc) even,G3798 whenG3753 the sunG2246 did set,G1416(Aor2ActInd) they broughtG5342(ImpfActInd) untoG4314 himG846 allG3956 that wereG2192(PresActPtc) diseased,G2560 andG2532 them that were possessed with devils.G1139(PresMidPasDepPtc) [33] AndG2532 allG3650 the cityG4172 wasG2258(ImpfInd) gathered togetherG1996(PerfPasPtc) atG4314 the door.G2374 [34] AndG2532 he healedG2323(AorActInd) manyG4183 that wereG2192(PresActPtc) sickG2560 of diversG4164 diseases,G3554 andG2532 cast outG1544(Aor2ActInd) manyG4183 devils;G1140 andG2532 sufferedG863(ImpfActInd) notG3756 the devilsG1140 to speak,G2980(PresActInf) becauseG3754 they knewG1492(PlupfActInd) him.G846 [35] AndG2532 in the morning,G4404 rising upG450(Aor2ActPtc) a great whileG3029 before day,G1773 he went out,G1831(Aor2ActInd) andG2532 departedG565(Aor2ActInd) intoG1519 a solitaryG2048 place,G5117 and thereG2546 prayed.G4336(ImpfMidPasDepInd) [36] AndG2532 SimonG4613 andG2532 they that were withG3326 himG846 followed afterG2614(AorActInd) him.G846 [37] AndG2532 when they had foundG2147(Aor2ActPtc) him,G846 they saidG3004(PresActInd) unto him,G846 AllG3956 [men] seekG2212(PresActInd) for thee.G4571 [38] AndG2532 he saidG3004(PresActInd) unto them,G846 Let us goG71(PresActSubj) intoG1519 the nextG2192(PresPasPtc) towns,G2969 thatG2443 I may preachG2784(AorActSubj) there also:G2546 forG1063 thereforeG1519 came I forth.G1831(PerfActInd) [39] AndG2532 he preachedG2784(PresActPtc) inG1722 theirG846 synagoguesG4864 throughoutG1519 allG3650 Galilee,G1056 andG2532 cast outG1544(PresActPtc) devils.G1140 [40] AndG2532 there cameG2064(PresMidPasDepInd) a leperG3015 toG4314 him,G846 beseechingG3870(PresActPtc) him,G846 andG2532 kneeling downG1120(PresActPtc) to him,G846 andG2532 sayingG3004(PresActPtc) unto him,G846 IfG1437 thou wilt,G2309(PresActSubj) thou canstG1410(PresMidPasDepInd) makeG2511 meG3165 clean.G2511(AorActInf) [41] AndG1161 Jesus,G2424 moved with compassion,G4697(AorPasDepPtc) put forthG1614(AorActPtc) [his] hand,G5495 and touchedG680(AorMidDepInd) him,G846 andG2532 saithG3004(PresActInd) unto him,G846 I will;G2309(PresActInd) be thou clean.G2511(AorPasImpr) [42] AndG2532 as soon as heG846 had spoken,G2036(Aor2ActPtc) immediatelyG2112 the leprosyG3014 departedG565(Aor2ActInd) fromG575 him,G846 andG2532 he was cleansed.G2511(AorPasInd) [43] AndG2532 he straitly chargedG1690(AorMidDepPtc) him,G846 and forthwithG2112 sentG1544 himG846 away;G1544(Aor2ActInd) [44] AndG2532 saithG3004(PresActInd) unto him,G846 SeeG3708(PresActImpr) thou sayG2036(Aor2ActSubj) nothingG3367 to any man:G3367 butG235 go thy way,G5217(PresActImpr) shewG1166(AorActImpr) thyselfG4572 to the priest,G2409 andG2532
