και ειπεν δαλιλα προς σαμψων εως νυν παρελογισω με και ελαλησας προς με ψευδη αναγγειλον δη μοι εν τινι δεθηση και ειπεν προς αυτην εαν υφανης τας επτα σειρας της κεφαλης μου μετα του διασματος και εγκρουσης εν τω πασσαλω εις τον τοιχον και εσομαι ασθενης ως εις των ανθρωπων

και απηγγειλεν αυτη παντα τα απο καρδιας αυτου και ειπεν αυτη ξυρον ουκ αναβησεται επι την κεφαλην μου οτι ναζιραιος θεου εγω ειμι εκ κοιλιας μητρος μου και εαν ξυρησωμαι αποστησεται απ εμου η ισχυς μου και ασθενησω και εσομαι κατα παντας τους ανθρωπους

και ουκ εστιν εξαιρουμενος οτι μακραν εστιν απο σιδωνιων και λογος ουκ εστιν αυτοις μετα ανθρωπων και αυτη εν κοιλαδι η εστιν του οικου ροωβ και ωκοδομησαν την πολιν και κατωκησαν εν αυτη

Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”

But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”

^[24:10] και ειπεν δαυιδ προς σαουλ ινα τι ακουεις των λογων του λαου λεγοντων ιδου δαυιδ ζητει την ψυχην σου

Though men may rise up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Yahweh your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies as from a sling’s pocket.

και αναστησεται ανθρωπος καταδιωκων σε και ζητων την ψυχην σου και εσται η ψυχη κυριου μου ενδεδεμενη εν δεσμω της ζωης παρα κυριω τω θεω και ψυχην εχθρων σου σφενδονησεις εν μεσω της σφενδονης

Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods!’

και νυν ακουσατω δη ο κυριος μου ο βασιλευς το ρημα του δουλου αυτου ει ο θεος επισειει σε επ εμε οσφρανθειη θυσιας σου και ει υιοι ανθρωπων επικαταρατοι ουτοι ενωπιον κυριου οτι εξεβαλον με σημερον μη εστηρισθαι εν κληρονομια κυριου λεγοντες πορευου δουλευε θεοις ετεροις

εγω εσομαι αυτω εις πατερα και αυτος εσται μοι εις υιον και εαν ελθη η αδικια αυτου και ελεγξω αυτον εν ραβδω ανδρων και εν αφαις υιων ανθρωπων

This was yet a small thing in your eyes, Lord Yahweh, but you have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come; and this among men, Lord Yahweh!

και κατεσμικρυνθη μικρον ενωπιον σου κυριε μου κυριε και ελαλησας υπερ του οικου του δουλου σου εις μακραν ουτος δε ο νομος του ανθρωπου κυριε μου κυριε

The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who shall each know the plague of his own heart, and spread out his hands toward this house,

If they sin against you (for there is no man who doesn’t sin), and you are angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near;

He cried against the altar by Yahweh’s word, and said, “Altar! Altar! Yahweh says: ‘Behold, a son will be born to David’s house, Josiah by name. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men’s bones on you.’ ”

So they came and called to the city gatekeepers; and they told them, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, not even a man’s voice, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were.”

He broke in pieces the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and filled their places with men’s bones.

και συνετριψεν τας στηλας και εξωλεθρευσεν τα αλση και επλησεν τους τοπους αυτων οστεων ανθρωπων

He killed all the priests of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.

και ηχμαλωτευσαν την αποσκευην αυτων καμηλους πεντακισχιλιας και προβατων διακοσιας πεντηκοντα χιλιαδας ονους δισχιλιους και ψυχας ανδρων εκατον χιλιαδας

This was a small thing in your eyes, O God, but you have spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have respected me according to the standard of a man of high degree, Yahweh God.

και εσμικρυνθη ταυτα ενωπιον σου ο θεος και ελαλησας επι τον οικον του παιδος σου εκ μακρων και επειδες με ως ορασις ανθρωπου και υψωσας με κυριε ο θεος

David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into Yahweh’s hand, for his mercies are very great. Don’t let me fall into man’s hand.”

David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.

και ειπεν δαυιδ ο βασιλευς παση τη εκκλησια σαλωμων ο υιος μου εις ον ηρετικεν εν αυτω κυριος νεος και απαλος και το εργον μεγα οτι ουκ ανθρωπω η οικοδομη αλλ η κυριω θεω

“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

οτι ει αληθως κατοικησει θεος μετα ανθρωπων επι της γης ει ο ουρανος και ο ουρανος του ουρανου ουκ αρκεσουσιν σοι και τις ο οικος ουτος ον ωκοδομησα

whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who will each know his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread out his hands toward this house,

“If they sin against you (for there is no man who doesn’t sin), and you are angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to a land far off or near;

οτι αμαρτησονται σοι οτι ουκ εσται ανθρωπος ος ουχ αμαρτησεται και παταξεις αυτους και παραδωσεις αυτους κατα προσωπον εχθρων και αιχμαλωτευσουσιν οι αιχμαλωτευοντες αυτους εις γην εχθρων εις γην μακραν η εγγυς

and said to the judges, “Consider what you do, for you don’t judge for man, but for Yahweh; and he is with you in the judgment.

They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.

When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly, because a man had come to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

και ηκουσεν σαναβαλλατ ο αρωνι και τωβια ο δουλος ο αμμωνι και πονηρον αυτοις εγενετο οτι ηκει ανθρωπος ζητησαι αγαθον τοις υιοις ισραηλ

I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. I didn’t tell anyone what my God put into my heart to do for Jerusalem. There wasn’t any animal with me except the animal that I rode on.

και ανεστην νυκτος εγω και ανδρες ολιγοι μετ εμου και ουκ απηγγειλα ανθρωπω τι ο θεος διδωσιν εις καρδιαν μου του ποιησαι μετα του ισραηλ και κτηνος ουκ εστιν μετ εμου ει μη το κτηνος ω εγω επιβαινω επ αυτω

and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they were arrogant, and didn’t listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances (which if a man does, he shall live in them), turned their backs, stiffened their neck, and would not hear.

και επεμαρτυρω αυτοις επιστρεψαι αυτους εις τον νομον σου και ουκ ηκουσαν αλλα εν ταις εντολαις σου και εν τοις κριμασι σου ημαρτοσαν α ποιησας αυτα ανθρωπος ζησεται εν αυτοις και εδωκαν νωτον απειθουντα και τραχηλον αυτων εσκληρυναν και ουκ ηκουσαν

but man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

αλλα ανθρωπος γενναται κοπω νεοσσοι δε γυπος τα υψηλα πετονται

If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?

ει εγω ημαρτον τι δυναμαι σοι πραξαι ο επισταμενος τον νουν των ανθρωπων δια τι εθου με κατεντευκτην σου ειμι δε επι σοι φορτιον

An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.

For vain H5014 (QalPasPtc) man H376 would be wise, H3823 (NiphImpf) though man H120 be born H3205 (NiphImpf) [like] a wild ass’s H6501 colt. H5895

ανθρωπος δε αλλως νηχεται λογοις βροτος δε γεννητος γυναικος ισα ονω ερημιτη

“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.

Man H120 [that is] born H3205 (QalPasPtc) of a woman H802 [is] of few H7116 days, H3117 and full H7649 of trouble. H7267

βροτος γαρ γεννητος γυναικος ολιγοβιος και πληρης οργης

But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?

ανηρ δε τελευτησας ωχετο πεσων δε βροτος ουκετι εστιν

“Are you the first man who was born? Or were you brought out before the hills?

τι γαρ μη πρωτος ανθρωπων εγενηθης η προ θινων επαγης

that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!

Don’t you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,

αυτη η μερις ανθρωπου ασεβους παρα κυριου και κτημα υπαρχοντων αυτω παρα του επισκοπου

As for me, is my complaint to man? Why shouldn’t I be impatient?

τι γαρ μη ανθρωπου μου η ελεγξις η δια τι ου θυμωθησομαι

The clods of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will draw after him, as there were innumerable before him.

How much less man, who is a worm, and the son of man, who is a worm!”

εα δε ανθρωπος σαπρια και υιος ανθρωπου σκωληξ

“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from the Almighty.

This [is] the portion H2506 of a wicked H7563 man H120 with God, H410 and the heritage H5159 of oppressors, H6184 [which] they shall receive H3947 (QalImpf) of the Almighty. H7706

αυτη η μερις ανθρωπου ασεβους παρα κυριου κτημα δε δυναστων ελευσεται παρα παντοκρατορος επ αυτους

To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord,^§ that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’ ”
