[1] Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. [2] He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, after the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel. [3] For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he raised up altars for the Baals, made Asheroth, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them. [4] He built altars in Yahweh’s house, of which Yahweh said, “My name shall be in Jerusalem forever.” [5] He built altars for all the army of the sky in the two courts of Yahweh’s house. [6] He also made his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom. He practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and dealt with those who had familiar spirits and with wizards. He did much evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger. [7] He set the engraved image of the idol, which he had made, in God’s house, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever. [8] I will not any more remove the foot of Israel from off the land which I have appointed for your fathers, if only they will observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the law, the statutes, and the ordinances given by Moses.” [9] Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than did the nations whom Yahweh destroyed before the children of Israel. [10] Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they didn’t listen. [11] Therefore Yahweh brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. [12] When he was in distress, he begged Yahweh his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. [13] He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Yahweh was God. [14] Now after this, he built an outer wall to David’s city on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the fish gate. He encircled Ophel with it, and raised it up to a very great height; and he put valiant captains in all the fortified cities of Judah. [15] He took away the foreign gods and the idol out of Yahweh’s house, and all the altars that he had built in the mountain of Yahweh’s house and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. [16] He built up Yahweh’s altar, and offered sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving on it, and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh, the God of Israel. [17] Nevertheless the people still sacrificed in the high places, but only to Yahweh their God. [18] Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel, behold, they are written among the acts of the kings of Israel. [19] His prayer also, and how God listened to his request, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places and set up the Asherah poles and the engraved images before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.§ [20] So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house; and Amon his son reigned in his place. [21] Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. [22] He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, as did Manasseh his father; and Amon sacrificed to all the engraved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them. [23] He didn’t humble himself before Yahweh, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but this same Amon trespassed more and more. [24] His servants conspired against him, and put him to death in his own house. [25] But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against King Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place.

[1] ManassehH4519 [was] twelveH8147 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reign,H4427(QalInf) and he reignedH4427(QalPerf) fiftyH2572 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 in Jerusalem:H3389 [2] But didH6213(QalImpf) [that which was] evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the Lord,H3068 like unto the abominationsH8441 of the heathen,H1471 whom the LordH3068 had cast outH3423(HiphPerf) beforeH6440 the childrenH1121 of Israel.H3478 [3] For he builtH1129(QalImpf) againH7725(QalImpf) the high placesH1116 which HezekiahH3169 his fatherH1 had broken down,H5422(PielPerf) and he reared upH6965(HiphImpf) altarsH4196 for Baalim,H1168 and madeH6213(QalImpf) groves,H842 and worshippedH7812(HithImpf) all the hostH6635 of heaven,H8064 and servedH5647(QalImpf) them. [4] Also he builtH1129(QalPerf) altarsH4196 in the houseH1004 of the Lord,H3068 whereof the LordH3068 had said,H559(QalPerf) In JerusalemH3389 shall my nameH8034 be for ever.H5769 [5] And he builtH1129(QalImpf) altarsH4196 for all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 in the twoH8147 courtsH2691 of the houseH1004 of the Lord.H3068 [6] And he causedH5674 his childrenH1121 to pass throughH5674(HiphPerf) the fireH784 in the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of Hinnom:H2011 also he observed times,H6049(PoelPerf) and used enchantments,H5172(PielPerf) and used witchcraft,H3784(PielPerf) and dealtH6213(QalPerf) with a familiar spirit,H178 and with wizards:H3049 he wroughtH6213(QalInf) muchH7235(HiphPerf) evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the Lord,H3068 to provoke him to anger.H3707(HiphInf) [7] And he setH7760(QalImpf) a carved image,H6459 the idolH5566 which he had made,H6213(QalPerf) in the houseH1004 of God,H430 of which GodH430 had saidH559(QalPerf) to DavidH1732 and to SolomonH8010 his son,H1121 In this house,H1004 and in Jerusalem,H3389 which I have chosenH977(QalPerf) before all the tribesH7626 of Israel,H3478 will I putH7760(QalImpf) my nameH8034 for ever:H5865 [8] Neither will I any moreH3254(HiphImpf) removeH5493(HiphInf) the footH7272 of IsraelH3478 from outH5921 of the landH127 which I have appointedH5975(HiphPerf) for your fathers;H1 so thatH518 they will take heedH8104(QalImpf) to doH6213(QalInf) all that I have commandedH6680(PielPerf) them, according to the whole lawH8451 and the statutesH2706 and the ordinancesH4941 by the handH3027 of Moses.H4872 [9] So ManassehH4519 madeH8582 JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427(QalActPtc) of JerusalemH3389 to err,H8582(HiphImpf) [and] to doH6213(QalInf) worseH7451 than the heathen,H1471 whom the LordH3068 had destroyedH8045(HiphPerf) beforeH6440 the childrenH1121 of Israel.H3478 [10] And the LordH3068 spakeH1696(PielImpf) to Manasseh,H4519 and to his people:H5971 but they would not hearken.H7181(HiphPerf) [11] Wherefore the LordH3068 broughtH935(HiphImpf) upon them the captains ofH8269 the host ofH6635 the kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 which tookH3920(QalImpf) ManassehH4519 among the thorns,H2336 and bound himH631(QalImpf) with fetters,H5178 and carriedH3212(HiphImpf) him to Babylon.H894 [12] And when he was in affliction,H6887(HiphInf) he besoughtH2470(PielPerf) the LordH3068 his God,H430 and humbledH3665(NiphImpf) himself greatlyH3966 beforeH6440 the GodH430 of his fathers,H1 [13] And prayedH6419(HithImpf) unto him: and he was intreatedH6279(NiphImpf) of him, and heardH8085(QalImpf) his supplication,H8467 and brought him againH7725(HiphImpf) to JerusalemH3389 into his kingdom.H4438 Then ManassehH4519 knewH3045(QalImpf) that the LordH3068 he [was] God.H430 [14] Now after thisH310 he builtH1129(QalPerf) a wallH2346 withoutH2435 the cityH5892 of David,H1732 on the west sideH4628 of Gihon,H1521 in the valley,H5158 even to the entering inH935(QalInf) at the fishH1709 gate,H8179 and compassedH5437(QalPerf) about Ophel,H6077 and raised it upH1361(HiphImpf) a very great height,H3966 and putH7760(QalImpf) captainsH8269 of warH2428 in all the fencedH1219(QalPasPtc) citiesH5892 of Judah.H3063 [15] And he took awayH5493(HiphImpf) the strangeH5236 gods,H430 and the idolH5566 out of the houseH1004 of the Lord,H3068 and all the altarsH4196 that he had builtH1129(QalPerf) in the mountH2022 of the houseH1004 of the Lord,H3068 and in Jerusalem,H3389 and castH7993(HiphImpf) [them] outH2351 of the city.H5892 [16] And he repairedH1129(QalImpf) the altarH4196 of the Lord,H3068 and sacrificedH2076(QalImpf) thereon peaceH8002 offeringsH2077 and thank offerings,H8426 and commandedH559(QalImpf) JudahH3063 to serveH5647(QalInf) the LordH3068 GodH430 of Israel.H3478 [17] NeverthelessH61 the peopleH5971 did sacrificeH2076(QalActPtc) still in the high places,H1116 [yet] unto the LordH3068 their GodH430 only. [18] Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Manasseh,H4519 and his prayerH8605 unto his God,H430 and the wordsH1697 of the seersH2374 that spakeH1696(PielPtc) to him in the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 behold, they [are written] in the bookH1697 of the kingsH4428 of Israel.H3478 [19] His prayerH8605 also, and [how God] was intreatedH6279(NiphInf) of him, and all his sin,H2403 and his trespass,H4604 and the placesH4725 wherein he builtH1129(QalPerf) high places,H1116 and set upH5975(HiphPerf) grovesH842 and graven images,H6456 beforeH6440 he was humbled:H3665(NiphInf) behold, they [are] writtenH3789(QalPasPtc) among the sayingsH1697 of the seers.H2374(Ketiv) [20] So ManassehH4519 sleptH7901(QalImpf) with his fathers,H1 and they buriedH6912(QalImpf) him in his own house:H1004 and AmonH526 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead. [21] AmonH526 [was] twoH8147 and twentyH6242 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reign,H4427(QalInf) and reignedH4427(QalPerf) twoH8147 yearsH8141 in Jerusalem.H3389 [22] But he didH6213(QalImpf) [that which was] evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the Lord,H3068 as didH6213(QalPerf) ManassehH4519 his father:H1 for AmonH526 sacrificedH2076(PielPerf) unto all the carved imagesH6456 which ManassehH4519 his fatherH1 had made,H6213(QalPerf) and servedH5647(QalImpf) them; [23] And humbledH3665(NiphPerf) not himself beforeH6440 the Lord,H3068 as ManassehH4519 his fatherH1 had humbledH3665(NiphInf) himself; but AmonH526 trespassedH819 more and more.H7235(HiphPerf) [24] And his servantsH5650 conspiredH7194(QalImpf) against him, and slewH4191(HiphImpf) him in his own house.H1004 [25] But the peopleH5971 of the landH776 slewH5221(HiphImpf) all them that had conspiredH7194(QalActPtc) against kingH4428 Amon;H526 and the peopleH5971 of the landH776 madeH4427 JosiahH2977 his sonH1121 kingH4427(HiphImpf) in his stead.
