[1] At the end of every seven years, you shall cancel debts. [2] This is the way it shall be done: every creditor shall release that which he has lent to his neighbor. He shall not require payment from his neighbor and his brother, because Yahweh’s release has been proclaimed. [3] Of a foreigner you may require it; but whatever of yours is with your brother, your hand shall release. [4] However there will be no poor with you (for Yahweh will surely bless you in the land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance to possess) [5] if only you diligently listen to Yahweh your God’s voice, to observe to do all this commandment which I command you today. [6] For Yahweh your God will bless you, as he promised you. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. You will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you. [7] If a poor man, one of your brothers, is with you within any of your gates in your land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother; [8] but you shall surely open your hand to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, which he lacks. [9] Beware that there not be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, “The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,” and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing; and he cry to Yahweh against you, and it be sin to you. [10] You shall surely give, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because it is for this thing Yahweh your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to. [11] For the poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command you to surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land. [12] If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. [13] When you let him go free from you, you shall not let him go empty. [14] You shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, out of your threshing floor, and out of your wine press. As Yahweh your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. [15] You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you. Therefore I command you this thing today. [16] It shall be, if he tells you, “I will not go out from you,” because he loves you and your house, because he is well with you, [17] then you shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever. Also to your female servant you shall do likewise. [18] It shall not seem hard to you when you let him go free from you, for he has been double the value of a hired hand as he served you six years. Yahweh your God will bless you in all that you do. [19] You shall dedicate all the firstborn males that are born of your herd and of your flock to Yahweh your God. You shall do no work with the firstborn of your herd, nor shear the firstborn of your flock. [20] You shall eat it before Yahweh your God year by year in the place which Yahweh shall choose, you and your household. [21] If it has any defect—is lame or blind, or has any defect whatever, you shall not sacrifice it to Yahweh your God. [22] You shall eat it within your gates. The unclean and the clean shall eat it alike, as the gazelle and as the deer. [23] Only you shall not eat its blood. You shall pour it out on the ground like water.
King James Version
[1] At the endH7093 of [every] sevenH7651 yearsH8141 thou shalt makeH6213(QalImpf) a release.H8059 [2] And this [is] the mannerH1697 of the release:H8059 Every creditorH1167 that lendethH5383(HiphImpf) [ought] unto his neighbourH7453 shall releaseH8058(QalInf) [it]; he shall not exactH5065(QalImpf) [it] of his neighbour,H7453 or of his brother;H251 because it is calledH7121(QalPerf) the Lord’sH3068 release.H8059 [3] Of a foreignerH5237 thou mayest exactH5065(QalImpf) [it again]: but [that] which is thine with thy brotherH251 thine handH3027 shall release;H8058(HiphImpf) [4] SaveH657 when there shall be no poorH34 among you; for the LordH3068 shall greatlyH1288(PielInf) blessH1288(PielImpf) thee in the landH776 which the LordH3068 thy GodH430 givethH5414(QalActPtc) thee [for] an inheritanceH5159 to possessH3423(QalInf) it: [5] Only if thou carefullyH8085(QalInf) hearkenH8085(QalImpf) unto the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068 thy God,H430 to observeH8104(QalInf) to doH6213(QalInf) all these commandmentsH4687 which I commandH6680(PielPtc) thee this day.H3117 [6] For the LordH3068 thy GodH430 blessethH1288(PielPerf) thee, as he promisedH1696(PielPerf) thee: and thou shalt lendH5670(HiphPerf) unto manyH7227 nations,H1471 but thou shalt not borrow;H5670(QalImpf) and thou shalt reignH4910(QalPerf) over manyH7227 nations,H1471 but they shall not reignH4910(QalImpf) over thee. [7] If there be among you a poor manH34 of oneH259 of thy brethrenH251 within anyH259 of thy gatesH8179 in thy landH776 which the LordH3068 thy GodH430 givethH5414(QalActPtc) thee, thou shalt not hardenH553(PielImpf) thine heart,H3824 nor shutH7092(QalImpf) thine handH3027 from thy poorH34 brother:H251 [8] But thou shalt openH6605(QalImpf) thine handH3027 wideH6605(QalInf) unto him, and shalt surelyH5670(HiphInf) lendH5670(HiphImpf) him sufficientH1767 for his need,H4270 [in that] which he wanteth.H2637(QalImpf) [9] BewareH8104(NiphImpv) that there be not a thoughtH1697 in thy wickedH1100 heart,H3824 saying,H559(QalInf) The seventhH7651 year,H8141 the yearH8141 of release,H8059 is at hand;H7126(QalPerf) and thine eyeH5869 be evilH7489(QalPerf) against thy poorH34 brother,H251 and thou givestH5414(QalImpf) him nought; and he cryH7121(QalPerf) unto the LordH3068 against thee, and it be sinH2399 unto thee. [10] Thou shalt surelyH5414(QalInf) giveH5414(QalImpf) him, and thine heartH3824 shall not be grievedH3415(QalImpf) when thou givestH5414(QalInf) unto him: becauseH1558 that for this thingH1697 the LordH3068 thy GodH430 shall blessH1288(PielImpf) thee in all thy works,H4639 and in all that thou puttestH4916 thine handH3027 unto. [11] For the poorH34 shall never ceaseH2308(QalImpf) out ofH7130 the land:H776 therefore I commandH6680(PielPtc) thee, saying,H559(QalInf) Thou shalt openH6605(QalImpf) thine handH3027 wideH6605(QalInf) unto thy brother,H251 to thy poor,H6041 and to thy needy,H34 in thy land.H776 [12] [And] if thy brother,H251 an Hebrew man,H5680 or an Hebrew woman,H5680 be soldH4376(NiphImpf) unto thee, and serveH5647(QalPerf) thee sixH8337 years;H8141 then in the seventhH7637 yearH8141 thou shalt let him goH7971(PielImpf) freeH2670 from thee. [13] And when thou sendestH7971(PielImpf) him out freeH2670 from thee, thou shalt not let him go awayH7971(PielImpf) empty:H7387 [14] Thou shalt furnishH6059(HiphImpf) him liberallyH6059(HiphInf) out of thy flock,H6629 and out of thy floor,H1637 and out of thy winepress:H3342 [of that] wherewith the LordH3068 thy GodH430 hath blessedH1288(PielPerf) thee thou shalt giveH5414(QalImpf) unto him. [15] And thou shalt rememberH2142(QalPerf) that thou wast a bondmanH5650 in the landH776 of Egypt,H4714 and the LordH3068 thy GodH430 redeemedH6299(QalImpf) thee: therefore I commandH6680(PielPtc) thee this thingH1697 to day.H3117 [16] And it shall be, if he sayH559(QalImpf) unto thee, I will not go awayH3318(QalImpf) from thee; because he lovethH157(QalPerf) thee and thine house,H1004 because he is wellH2895(QalPerf) with thee; [17] Then thou shalt takeH3947(QalPerf) an aul,H4836 and thrustH5414(QalPerf) [it] through his earH241 unto the door,H1817 and he shall be thy servantH5650 for ever.H5769 And also unto thy maidservantH519 thou shalt doH6213(QalImpf) likewise. [18] It shall not seem hardH7185(QalImpf) unto thee,H5869 when thou sendest him awayH7971(PielInf) freeH2670 from thee; for he hath been worthH7939 a doubleH4932 hired servantH7916 [to thee], in servingH5647(QalPerf) thee sixH8337 years:H8141 and the LordH3068 thy GodH430 shall blessH1288(PielPerf) thee in all that thou doest.H6213(QalImpf) [19] All the firstlingH1060 malesH2145 that comeH3205(NiphImpf) of thy herdH1241 and of thy flockH6629 thou shalt sanctifyH6942(HiphImpf) unto the LordH3068 thy God:H430 thou shalt do no workH5647(QalImpf) with the firstlingH1060 of thy bullock,H7794 nor shearH1494(QalImpf) the firstlingH1060 of thy sheep.H6629 [20] Thou shalt eatH398(QalImpf) [it] beforeH6440 the LordH3068 thy GodH430 yearH8141 by yearH8141 in the placeH4725 which the LordH3068 shall choose,H977(QalImpf) thou and thy household.H1004 [21] And if there be [any] blemishH3971 therein, [as if it be] lame,H6455 or blind,H5787 [or have] any illH7451 blemish,H3971 thou shalt not sacrificeH2076(QalImpf) it unto the LordH3068 thy God.H430 [22] Thou shalt eatH398(QalImpf) it within thy gates:H8179 the uncleanH2931 and the cleanH2889 [person shall eat it] alike,H3162 as the roebuck,H6643 and as the hart.H354 [23] Only thou shalt not eatH398(QalImpf) the bloodH1818 thereof; thou shalt pourH8210(QalImpf) it upon the groundH776 as water.H4325
