[1] After these things, the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord, the king of Egypt. [2] Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cup bearer and the chief baker. [3] He put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound. [4] The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he took care of them. They stayed in prison many days. [5] They both dreamed a dream, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the cup bearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison. [6] Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and saw that they were sad. [7] He asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in custody in his master’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?” [8] They said to him, “We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it.”Joseph said to them, “Don’t interpretations belong to God? Please tell it to me.” [9] The chief cup bearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream, behold, a vine was in front of me, [10] and in the vine were three branches. It was as though it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters produced ripe grapes. [11] Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.” [12] Joseph said to him, “This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days. [13] Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head, and restore you to your office. You will give Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, the way you did when you were his cup bearer. [14] But remember me when it is well with you. Please show kindness to me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house. [15] For indeed, I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.” [16] When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, “I also was in my dream, and behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head. [17] In the uppermost basket there were all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.” [18] Joseph answered, “This is its interpretation. The three baskets are three days. [19] Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you.” [20] On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief cup bearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. [21] He restored the chief cup bearer to his position again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand; [22] but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. [23] Yet the chief cup bearer didn’t remember Joseph, but forgot him.

[1] And it came to pass afterH310 these things,H1697 [that] the butlerH8248(HiphPtc) of the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 and [his] bakerH644(QalActPtc) had offendedH2398(QalPerf) their lordH113 the kingH4428 of Egypt.H4714 [2] And PharaohH6547 was wrothH7107(QalImpf) againstH5921 twoH8147 [of] his officers,H5631 against the chiefH8269 of the butlers,H8248(HiphPtc) and against the chiefH8269 of the bakers.H644(QalActPtc) [3] And he putH5414(QalImpf) them in wardH4929 in the houseH1004 of the captainH8269 of the guard,H2876 into the prison,H1004 the placeH4725 where JosephH3130 [was] bound.H631(QalPasPtc) [4] And the captainH8269 of the guardH2876 chargedH6485(QalImpf) JosephH3130 with them, and he servedH8334(PielImpf) them: and they continued a seasonH3117 in ward.H4929 [5] And they dreamedH2492(QalImpf) a dreamH2472 both of them,H8147 each manH376 his dreamH2472 in oneH259 night,H3915 each manH376 according to the interpretationH6623 of his dream,H2472 the butlerH8248(HiphPtc) and the bakerH644(QalActPtc) of the kingH4428 of Egypt,H4714 which [were] boundH631(QalPasPtc) in the prison.H1004 [6] And JosephH3130 came inH935(QalImpf) unto them in the morning,H1242 and lookedH7200(QalImpf) upon them, and, behold, they [were] sad.H2196(QalActPtc) [7] And he askedH7592(QalImpf) Pharaoh’sH6547 officersH5631 that [were] with him in the wardH4929 of his lord’sH113 house,H1004 saying,H559(QalInf) Wherefore lookH6440 ye [so] sadlyH7451 to day?H3117 [8] And they saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, We have dreamedH2492(QalPerf) a dream,H2472 and [there is] no interpreterH6622(QalActPtc) of it. And JosephH3130 saidH559(QalImpf) unto them, [Do] not interpretationsH6623 [belong] to God?H430 tell meH5608(PielImpv) [them], I pray you. [9] And the chiefH8269 butlerH8248(HiphPtc) toldH5608(PielImpf) his dreamH2472 to Joseph,H3130 and saidH559(QalImpf) to him, In my dream,H2472 behold, a vineH1612 [was] before me;H6440 [10] And in the vineH1612 [were] threeH7969 branches:H8299 and it [was] as though it budded,H6524(QalActPtc) [and] her blossomsH5322 shot forth;H5927(QalPerf) and the clustersH811 thereof brought forth ripeH1310(HiphPerf) grapes:H6025 [11] And Pharaoh’sH6547 cupH3563 [was] in my hand:H3027 and I tookH3947(QalImpf) the grapes,H6025 and pressedH7818(QalImpf) them into Pharaoh’sH6547 cup,H3563 and I gaveH5414(QalImpf) the cupH3563 into Pharaoh’sH6547 hand.H3709 [12] And JosephH3130 saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, This [is] the interpretationH6623 of it: The threeH7969 branchesH8299 [are] threeH7969 days:H3117 [13] YetH5750 within threeH7969 daysH3117 shall PharaohH6547 lift upH5375(QalImpf) thine head,H7218 and restoreH7725(HiphPerf) thee unto thy place:H3653 and thou shalt deliverH5414(QalPerf) Pharaoh’sH6547 cupH3563 into his hand,H3027 after the formerH7223 mannerH4941 when thou wast his butler.H8248(HiphPtc) [14] But thinkH2142(QalPerf) on me when it shall be wellH3190(QalImpf) with thee, and shewH6213(QalPerf) kindness,H2617 I pray thee, unto me, and make mentionH2142(HiphPerf) of me unto Pharaoh,H6547 and bring meH3318(HiphPerf) out of this house:H1004 [15] For indeed I was stolen awayH1589(PualPerf) out of the landH776 of the Hebrews:H5680 and here also have I doneH6213(QalPerf) nothingH3972 that they should putH7760(QalPerf) me into the dungeon.H953 [16] When the chiefH8269 bakerH644(QalActPtc) sawH7200(QalImpf) that the interpretationH6622(QalPerf) was good,H2896 he saidH559(QalImpf) unto Joseph,H3130 I alsoH637 [was] in my dream,H2472 and, behold, [I had] threeH7969 whiteH2751 basketsH5536 on my head:H7218 [17] And in the uppermostH5945 basketH5536 [there was] of all mannerH3978 of bakemeatsH4639 for Pharaoh;H6547 and the birdsH5775 did eatH398(QalActPtc) them out of the basketH5536 uponH5921 my head.H7218 [18] And JosephH3130 answeredH6030(QalImpf) and said,H559(QalImpf) This [is] the interpretationH6623 thereof: The threeH7969 basketsH5536 [are] threeH7969 days:H3117 [19] Yet within threeH7969 daysH3117 shall PharaohH6547 lift upH5375(QalImpf) thy headH7218 from off thee, and shall hangH8518(QalPerf) thee on a tree;H6086 and the birdsH5775 shall eatH398(QalPerf) thy fleshH1320 from off thee. [20] And it came to pass the thirdH7992 day,H3117 [which was] Pharaoh’sH6547 birthday,H3117 that he madeH6213(QalImpf) a feastH4960 unto all his servants:H5650 and he lifted upH5375(QalImpf) the headH7218 of the chiefH8269 butlerH8248(HiphPtc) and of the chiefH8269 bakerH644(QalActPtc) amongH8432 his servants.H5650 [21] And he restoredH7725 the chiefH8269 butlerH8248(HiphPtc) unto his butlershipH4945 again;H7725(HiphImpf) and he gaveH5414(QalImpf) the cupH3563 into Pharaoh’sH6547 hand:H3709 [22] But he hangedH8518(QalPerf) the chiefH8269 baker:H644(QalActPtc) as JosephH3130 had interpretedH6622(QalPerf) to them. [23] Yet did not the chiefH8269 butlerH8248(HiphPtc) rememberH2142(QalPerf) Joseph,H3130 but forgatH7911(QalImpf) him.
