[1] Yahweh showed me, and behold, two baskets of figs were set before Yahweh’s temple, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. [2] One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. [3] Then Yahweh asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?”I said, “Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad are very bad, so bad that they can’t be eaten.” [4] Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, [5] “Yahweh, the God of Israel says: ‘Like these good figs, so I will regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, as good. [6] For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land. I will build them, and not pull them down. I will plant them, and not pluck them up. [7] I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh. They will be my people, and I will be their God; for they will return to me with their whole heart. [8] “ ‘As the bad figs, which can’t be eaten, they are so bad,’ surely Yahweh says, ‘So I will give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt. [9] I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them. [10] I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, until they are consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.’ ”

[1] The LordH3068 shewedH7200(HiphPerf) me, and, behold, twoH8147 basketsH1736 of figsH8384 [were] setH3259(HophPtc) beforeH6440 the templeH1964 of the Lord,H3068 afterH310 that NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had carried away captiveH1540(HiphInf) JeconiahH3204 the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 and the princesH8269 of Judah,H3063 with the carpentersH2796 and smiths,H4525 from Jerusalem,H3389 and had broughtH935(HiphImpf) them to Babylon.H894 [2] OneH259 basketH1731 [had] veryH3966 goodH2896 figs,H8384 [even] like the figsH8384 [that are] first ripe:H1073 and the otherH259 basketH1731 [had] veryH3966 naughtyH7451 figs,H8384 which could not be eaten,H398(NiphImpf) they were so bad.H7455 [3] Then saidH559(QalImpf) the LordH3068 unto me, What seestH7200(QalActPtc) thou, Jeremiah?H3414 And I said,H559(QalImpf) Figs;H8384 the goodH2896 figs,H8384 veryH3966 good;H2896 and the evil,H7451 veryH3966 evil,H7451 that cannot be eaten,H398(NiphImpf) they are so evil.H7455 [4] Again the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 came unto me, saying,H559(QalInf) [5] Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 the GodH430 of Israel;H3478 Like these goodH2896 figs,H8384 so will I acknowledgeH5234(HiphImpf) them that are carried away captiveH1546 of Judah,H3063 whom I have sentH7971(PielPerf) out of this placeH4725 into the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778 for [their] good.H2896 [6] For I will setH7760(QalPerf) mine eyesH5869 upon them for good,H2896 and I will bring them againH7725(HiphPerf) to this land:H776 and I will buildH1129(QalPerf) them, and not pull [them] down;H2040(QalImpf) and I will plantH5193(QalPerf) them, and not pluck [them] up.H5428(QalImpf) [7] And I will giveH5414(QalPerf) them an heartH3820 to knowH3045(QalInf) me, that I [am] the Lord:H3068 and they shall be my people,H5971 and I will be their God:H430 for they shall returnH7725(QalImpf) unto me with their whole heart.H3820 [8] And as the evilH7451 figs,H8384 which cannot be eaten,H398(NiphImpf) they are so evil;H7455 surely thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 So will I giveH5414(QalImpf) ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 and his princes,H8269 and the residueH7611 of Jerusalem,H3389 that remainH7604(NiphPtc) in this land,H776 and them that dwellH3427(QalActPtc) in the landH776 of Egypt:H4714 [9] And I will deliverH5414(QalPerf) them to be removedH2189(Qere) into all the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776 for [their] hurt,H7451 [to be] a reproachH2781 and a proverb,H4912 a tauntH8148 and a curse,H7045 in all placesH4725 whither I shall driveH5080(HiphImpf) them.
