[1] That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in Yahweh’s house, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying, [2] “Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. [3] Within two full years I will bring again into this place all the vessels of Yahweh’s house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon. [4] I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, who went to Babylon,’ says Yahweh; ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’ ” [5] Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in Yahweh’s house, [6] even the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May Yahweh do so. May Yahweh perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Yahweh’s house, and all those who are captives, from Babylon to this place. [7] Nevertheless listen now to this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people: [8] The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, of evil, and of pestilence. [9] As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.” [10] Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and broke it. [11] Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Yahweh says: ‘Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations within two full years.’ ” Then the prophet Jeremiah went his way. [12] Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying, [13] “Go, and tell Hananiah, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “You have broken the bars of wood, but you have made in their place bars of iron.” [14] For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says, “I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they will serve him. I have also given him the animals of the field.” ’ ” [15] Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! Yahweh has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie. [16] Therefore Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth. This year you will die, because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.’ ” [17] So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

[10] Then Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 took H3947 (QalImpf) the yoke H4133 from off the prophet H5030 Jeremiah’s H3414 neck, H6677 and brake H7665 (QalImpf) it. [11] And Hananiah H2608 spake H559 (QalImpf) in the presence H5869 of all the people, H5971 saying, H559 (QalInf) Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Even so will I break H7665 (QalImpf) the yoke H5923 of Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 from the neck H6677 of all nations H1471 within the space of two full H3117 years. H8141 And the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 went H3212 (QalImpf) his way. H1870 [12] Then the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 came unto Jeremiah H3414 the prophet, after H310 that Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 had broken H7665 (QalInf) the yoke H4133 from off the neck H6677 of the prophet H5030 Jeremiah, H3414 saying, H559 (QalInf) [13] Go H1980 (QalInf) and tell H559 (QalPerf) Hananiah, H2608 saying, H559 (QalInf) Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Thou hast broken H7665 (QalPerf) the yokes H4133 of wood; H6086 but thou shalt make H6213 (QalPerf) for them yokes H4133 of iron. H1270 [14] For thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 I have put H5414 (QalPerf) a yoke H5923 of iron H1270 upon the neck H6677 of all these nations, H1471 that they may serve H5647 (QalInf) Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon; H894 and they shall serve H5647 (QalPerf) him: and I have given H5414 (QalPerf) him the beasts H2416 of the field H7704 also. [15] Then said H559 (QalImpf) the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 unto Hananiah H2608 the prophet, H5030 Hear H8085 (QalImpv) now, Hananiah; H2608 The Lord H3068 hath not sent H7971 (QalPerf) thee; but thou makest this people H5971 to trust H982 (HiphPerf) in a lie. H8267 [16] Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Behold, I will cast H7971 (PielPtc) thee from off the face H6440 of the earth: H127 this year H8141 thou shalt die, H4191 (QalPtc) because thou hast taught H1696 (PielPerf) rebellion H5627§ against the Lord. H3068 [17] So Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 died H4191 (QalImpf) the same year H8141 in the seventh H7637 month. H2320
