A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.

Canaan! in his hand are balances of deceit! To oppress he hath loved.

I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables.

Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’ for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”

and I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hands of the children of Judah, and they will sell them to the men of Sheba, to a faraway nation, for Yahweh has spoken it.”

And have sold your sons and your daughters Into the hand of the sons of Judah, And they have sold them to Shabeans, Unto a nation far off, for Jehovah hath spoken.

I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord^§ Yahweh.

The nations will see and be ashamed of all their might. They will lay their hand on their mouth. Their ears will be deaf.

The mountains saw you, and were afraid. The storm of waters passed by. The deep roared and lifted up its hands on high.

And stretched out My hand against Judah, And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, And cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests,

He will stretch out his hand against the north, destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, as dry as the wilderness.

And he will stretch out H5186 (QalImpf) his hand H3027 against the north, H6828 and destroy H6 (PielImpf) Assyria; H804 and will make H7760 (QalImpf) Nineveh H5210 a desolation, H8077 [and] dry H6723 like a wilderness. H4057

And He stretcheth His hand against the north, And doth destroy Asshur, And he setteth Nineveh for a desolation, A dry land like a wilderness.

This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss and shake their fists.

This [is] the rejoicing H5947 city H5892 that dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) carelessly, H983 that said H559 (QalActPtc) in her heart, H3824 I [am], and [there is] none beside H657 me: how is she become a desolation, H8047 a place for beasts H2416 to lie down in! This is the exulting city that is dwelling confidently, That is saying in her heart, ‘I am, and beside me there is none,’ How hath she been for a desolation,

In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, “Don’t be afraid, Zion. Don’t let your hands be weak.”

I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.

Indeed, who despises the day of small things? For these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These are Yahweh’s eyes, which run back and forth through the whole earth.”

H6996 for they shall rejoice, H8055 (QalPerf) and shall see H7200 (QalPerf) the plummet H68 H913 in the hand H3027 of Zerubbabel H2216 [with] those seven; H7651 they [are] the eyes H5869 of the Lord, H3068 which run to and fro H7751 (PolePtc) through the whole earth. For who trampled on the day of small things, They have rejoiced, And seen the tin weight in the hand of Zerubbabel, These seven are the eyes of Jehovah, They are going to and fro in all the land.’

I asked him the second time, “What are these two olive branches, which are beside the two golden spouts that pour the golden oil out of themselves?”

And I answer a second time, and say unto him, ‘What are the two branches of the olive trees that, by means of the two golden pipes, are emptying out of themselves the oil?’

Aren’t these the words which Yahweh proclaimed by the former prophets when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and its cities around her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?’ ”

[Should ye] not [hear] the words H1697 which the Lord H3068 hath cried H7121 (QalPerf) by H3027 the former H7223 prophets, H5030 when Jerusalem H3389 was inhabited H3427 (QalActPtc) and in prosperity, H7961 and the cities H5892 thereof round about her, H5439 when [men] inhabited H3427 (QalActPtc) the south H5045 and the plain? ‘Are not these the words that Jehovah proclaimed by the hand of the former prophets, in Jerusalem’s being inhabited, and in safety, and its cities round about it, and the south and the plain-abiding?’

Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law and the words which Yahweh of Armies had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Yahweh of Armies.

Yea, they made H7760 (QalPerf) their hearts H3820 [as] an adamant stone, H8068 lest they should hear H8085 (QalInf) the law, H8451 and the words H1697 which the Lord H3068 of hosts H6635 hath sent H7971 (QalPerf) in his spirit H7307 by H3027 the former H7223 prophets: H5030 therefore came a great H1419 wrath H7110 from the Lord H3068 of hosts. And their heart they have made adamant, Against hearing the law, and the words, That Jehovah of Hosts sent by His Spirit, By the hand of the former prophets, And their is great wrath from Jehovah of Hosts.

Yahweh of Armies says: “Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand because of their old age.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 There shall yet old men H2205 and old women H2205 dwell H3427 (QalImpf) in the streets H7339 of Jerusalem, H3389 and every man H376 with his staff H4938 in his hand H3027 for very H7230 age. H3117

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Again dwell do old men and old women, In broad places of Jerusalem, And each his staff in his hand, Because of abundance of days.

Yahweh of Armies says: “Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were in the day that the foundation of the house of Yahweh of Armies was laid, even the temple, that it might be built.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Let your hands be strong, Ye who are hearing in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets, That in the day the house of Jehovah of Hosts Hath been founded, the temple is to be built.

It shall come to pass that, as you were a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Don’t be afraid. Let your hands be strong.”

And it shall come to pass, [that] as ye were a curse H7045 among the heathen, H1471 O house H1004 of Judah, H3063 and house H1004 of Israel; H3478 so will I save H3467 (HiphImpf) you, and ye shall be a blessing: H1293 fear H3372 (QalImpf) not, [but] let your hands H3027 be strong. H2388 (QalImpf)

And it hath come to pass, As ye have been a reviling among nations, O house of Judah, and house of Israel, So I save you, and ye have been a blessing, Do not fear, let your hands be strong.

For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land,” says Yahweh; “but, behold, I will deliver every one of the men into his neighbor’s hand and into the hand of his king. They will strike the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.”

For I have pity no more on inhabitants of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And lo, I am causing man to come forth, Each into the hand of his neighbour, And into the hand of his king, And they have beaten down the land, And I do not deliver out of their hand.’

One will say to him, ‘What are these wounds between your arms?’ Then he will answer, ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.’

“Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

It will happen in that day that a great panic from Yahweh will be among them; and they will each seize the hand of his neighbor, and his hand will rise up against the hand of his neighbor.

And it hath come to pass, in that day, A great destruction from Jehovah is among them, And they have seized each the hand of his neighbour, And gone up hath his hand against the hand of his neighbour.

The burden of a word of Jehovah unto Israel by the hand of Malachi:

“Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

Who is even among you, And he shutteth the two-leaved doors? Yea, ye do not kindle Mine altar for nought, I have no pleasure in you, said Jehovah of Hosts, And a present I do not accept of your hand.

You say also, ‘Behold,^§ what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh.

Malachi 1:13 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

Ye said H559 (QalPerf) also, Behold, what a weariness H4972 [is it]! and ye have snuffed H5301 (HiphPerf) at it, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 and ye brought H935 (HiphPerf) [that which was] torn, H1497 (QalPasPtc) and the lame, H6455 and the sick; H2470 (QalActPtc) thus ye brought H935 (HiphPerf) an offering: H4503 should I accept H7521 (QalImpf) this of your hand? And ye have said, ‘Lo, what a weariness,’ And ye have puffed at it, said Jehovah of Hosts, And ye have brought in plunder, And the lame and the sick, And ye have brought in the present! Do I accept it from your hand? said Jehovah.

“This again you do: you cover Yahweh’s altar with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn’t regard the offering any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand.

And this have ye done H6213 (QalImpf) again, H8145 covering H3680 (PielInf) the altar H4196 of the Lord H3068 with tears, H1832 with weeping, H1065 and with crying out, H603 insomuch that he regardeth H6437 (QalInf) not the offering H4503 any more, or receiveth H3947 (QalInf) [it] with good will H7522 at your hand. And this a second time ye do, Covering with tears the altar of Jehovah, With weeping and groaning, Because there is no more turning unto the present, Or receiving of a pleasing thing from your hand.
