‘Son of man, lift up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, And thou hast said to him: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Thou art sealing up a measurement, Full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

It will be the lowest of the kingdoms. It won’t lift itself up above the nations any more. I will diminish them so that they will no longer rule over the nations.

It shall be the basest H8217 of the kingdoms; H4467 neither shall it exalt H5375 (HithImpf) itself any more above the nations: H1471 for I will diminish H4591 (HiphPerf) them, that they shall no more rule H7287 (QalInf) over the nations. H1471

Of the kingdoms it is lowest, And it lifteth not up itself any more above the nations, And I have made them few, So as not to rule among nations.

Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He will carry off her multitude, take her plunder, and take her prey. That will be the wages for his army.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah, Lo, I am giving to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon the land of Egypt, And he hath taken away its store, And hath taken its spoil, and taken its prey, And it hath been a reward to his force.

‘Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and tell him, “You were likened to a young lion of the nations; yet you are as a monster in the seas. You broke out with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.”

“There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living, and have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.

There is Elam, and all her multitude, Round about is her grave, All of them wounded, who are falling by sword, Who have gone down uncircumcised unto the earth-the lower parts, Because they gave their terror in the land of the living, And they bear their shame with those going down to the pit.

I will raise up to them a plantation for renown, and they will no more be consumed with famine in the land, and not bear the shame of the nations any more.

Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and tell the mountains, the hills, the watercourses and the valleys, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my wrath, because you have borne the shame of the nations.”

Therefore, prophesy concerning the ground of Israel, And thou hast said to mountains, and to hills, To streams, and to valleys, Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Lo, I, in My jealousy, and in My fury, I have spoken, Because the shame of nations ye have borne.

Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: “I have sworn, ‘Surely the nations that are around you will bear their shame.’

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: I-I have lifted up My hand, Do not-the nations who are with you from round about-they their own shame bear?

“ ‘ “But you, mountains of Israel, you shall shoot out your branches and yield your fruit to my people Israel; for they are at hand to come.

But ye, O mountains H2022 of Israel, H3478 ye shall shoot forth H5414 (QalImpf) your branches, H6057 and yield H5375 (QalImpf) your fruit H6529 to my people H5971 of Israel; H3478 for they are at hand H7126 (PielPerf) to come. H935 (QalInf)

And ye, O mountains of Israel, Your branch ye give out, and your fruits ye bear for My people Israel, For they have drawn near to come.

“I won’t let you hear the shame of the nations any more. You won’t bear the reproach of the peoples any more, and you won’t cause your nation to stumble any more,” says the Lord Yahweh.’ ”

Neither will I cause [men] to hear H8085 (HiphImpf) in thee the shame H3639 of the heathen H1471 any more, neither shalt thou bear H5375 (QalImpf) the reproach H2781 of the people H5971 any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations H1471 to fall H3782 (HiphImpf) any more, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H136 God. And I proclaim not unto thee any more the shame of the nations, And the reproach of peoples thou bearest no more, And thy nations stumble not any more, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.’

Sheba, Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all its young lions, will ask you, ‘Have you come to take the plunder? Have you assembled your company to take the prey, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’ ” ’

so that they will take no wood out of the field, and not cut down any out of the forests; for they will make fires with the weapons. They will plunder those who plundered them, and rob those who robbed them,” says the Lord Yahweh.

And they do not take wood out of the field, Nor do they hew out of the forests, For with armour they cause the fire to burn, And they have spoiled their spoilers, And they have plundered their plunderers, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

They will forget their shame and all their trespasses by which they have trespassed against me, when they dwell securely in their land. No one will make them afraid

After that they have borne H5375 (QalPerf) their shame, H3639 and all their trespasses H4604 whereby they have trespassed H4603 (QalPerf) against me, when they dwelt H3427 (QalInf) safely H983 in their land, H127 and none made [them] afraid. H2729 (HiphPtc)

And they have forgotten their shame, And all their trespass that they trespassed against Me, In their dwelling on their land confidently and none troubling.

The Spirit took me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, Yahweh’s glory filled the house.

So the spirit H7307 took me up, H5375 (QalImpf) and brought H935 (HiphImpf) me into the inner H6442 court; H2691 and, behold, the glory H3519 of the Lord H3068 filled H4390 (QalPerf) the house. H1004

And take me up doth the Spirit, and bringeth me in unto the inner court, and lo, the honour of Jehovah hath filled the house.

“ ‘ “But the Levites who went far from me when Israel went astray, who went astray from me after their idols, they will bear their iniquity.

Because they ministered to them before their idols, and became a stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I have lifted up my hand against them,” says the Lord Yahweh, “and they will bear their iniquity.

They shall not come near to me, to execute the office of priest to me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, to the things that are most holy; but they will bear their shame and their abominations which they have committed.

And they draw not nigh unto Me to act as My priest, and to draw nigh unto any of My holy things, unto the holy of holies, and they have borne their shame and their abominations that they have done,

The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain one tenth of a homer,° and the ephah one tenth of a homer. Its measure shall be the same as the homer.

The ephah and the bath is of one measure, for the bath to bear a tenth of the homer, and the ephah a tenth of the homer: according to the homer is its measurement.

“In those times many will stand up against the king of the south. Also the children of the violent among your people will lift themselves up to establish the vision, but they will fall.

and in those times many do stand up against the king of the south, and sons of the destroyers of thy people do lift themselves up to establish the vision-and they have stumbled.

She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, “Call her name Lo-Ruhamah,° for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them.

Hosea 1:6 Lo-Ruhamah means “not loved”.

They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.

The sin of My people they do eat, And unto their iniquity lift up their soul.

When Ephraim speaketh tremblingly, He hath been lifted up in Israel, When he becometh guilty in Baal he dieth.

Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Tell him, “Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good; so we offer bulls as we vowed of our lips.

Take with you words, and turn to Jehovah, Say ye unto Him: ‘Take away all iniquity, and give good, And we do render the fruit of our lips.

Don’t be afraid, you animals of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness spring up, for the tree bears its fruit. The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.

Do not fear, O cattle of the field! For sprung forth have pastures of a wilderness, For the tree hath borne its fruit, Fig-tree and vine have given their strength!

The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness, “Behold, the days shall come on you that they will take you away with hooks, and the last of you with fish hooks.

Sworn hath the Lord Jehovah by His holiness, That lo, days are coming upon you, And he hath taken you away with hooks, And your posterity with fish-hooks.

You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.

And lifted him up hath his loved one, even his burner, To bring forth the bones from the house, And he said to him who is in the sides of the house, ‘Is there yet with thee?’ And he said, ‘None,’ then he said, ‘Hush! Save to make mention of the name of Jehovah.’

He said to them, “Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.”

So they took up Jonah and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging.

They covet fields and seize them, and houses, then take them away. They oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

In that day they will take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, saying, ‘We are utterly ruined! My people’s possession is divided up. Indeed he takes it from me and assigns our fields to traitors!’ ”

In that day doth one take up for you a simile, And he hath wailed a wailing of woe, He hath said, We have been utterly spoiled, The portion of my people He doth change, How doth He move toward me! To the backslider our fields He apportioneth.

But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of Yahweh’s temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills; and peoples will stream to it.

But in the last H319 days H3117 it shall come to pass, [that] the mountain H2022 of the house H1004 of the Lord H3068 shall be established H3559 (NiphPtc) in the top H7218 of the mountains, H2022 and it shall be exalted H5375 (NiphPtc) above the hills; H1389 and people H5971 shall flow H5102 (QalPerf) unto it.

And it hath come to pass, In the latter end of the days, The mount of the house of Jehovah Is established above the top of the mounts, And it hath been lifted up above the hills, And flowed unto it have peoples.

and he will judge between many peoples, and will decide concerning strong nations afar off. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war any more.

And He hath judged between many peoples, And given a decision to mighty nations afar off, They have beaten their swords to ploughshares, And their spears to pruning-hooks, Nation lifteth not up sword unto nation, Nor do they learn war any more.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of Ahab’s house. You walk in their counsels, that I may make you a ruin, and your inhabitants a hissing. You will bear the reproach of my people.”

And kept habitually are the statutes of Omri, And all the work of the house of Ahab, And ye do walk in their counsels, For My giving thee for a desolation, And its inhabitants for a hissing, And the reproach of My people ye do bear!

I will bear the indignation of Yahweh, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my case and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light. I will see his righteousness.

The indignation of Jehovah I do bear, For I have sinned against Him, Till that He doth plead my cause, And hath executed my judgment, He doth bring me forth to the light, I look on His righteousness.

Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.

Who [is] a God H410 like unto thee, that pardoneth H5375 (QalActPtc) iniquity, H5771 and passeth by H5674 (QalActPtc) the transgression H6588 of the remnant H7611 of his heritage? H5159 he retaineth H2388 (HiphPerf) not his anger H639 for ever, H5703 because he delighteth H2654 (QalPerf) [in] mercy. H2617

Who is a God like Thee? taking away iniquity, And passing by the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance, He hath not retained for ever His anger, Because He-He delighteth in kindness.

The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world, and all who dwell in it.

The mountains H2022 quake H7493 (QalPerf) at him, and the hills H1389 melt, H4127 (HiplPerf) and the earth H776 is burned H5375 (QalImpf) at his presence, H6440 yea, the world, H8398 and all that dwell H3427 (QalActPtc) therein.

Mountains have shaken because of Him, And the hills have been melted; And lifted up is the earth at His presence, And the world and all dwelling in it.

Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up.

Why dost thou shew H7200 (HiphImpf) me iniquity, H205 and cause [me] to behold H5027 (HiphImpf) grievance? H5999 for spoiling H7701 and violence H2555 [are] before me: and there are [that] raise up H5375 (QalImpf) strife H7379 and contention. H4066

Why dost Thou shew me iniquity, And perversity dost cause to behold? And spoiling and violence are before me, And there is strife, and contention doth lift itself up,

Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’

Shall not all these take up H5375 (QalImpf) a parable H4912 against him, and a taunting H4426 proverb H2420 against him, and say, H559 (QalImpf) Woe H1945 to him that increaseth H7235 (HiphPtc) [that which is] not his! how long? and to him that ladeth H3513 (HiphPtc) himself with thick clay! H5671

Do not these-all of them-against him a simile taken up, And a moral of acute sayings for him, And say, Woe to him who is multiplying what is not his? Till when also is he multiplying to himself heavy pledges?

The mountains saw you, and were afraid. The storm of waters passed by. The deep roared and lifted up its hands on high.

Seen thee-pained are mountains, An inundation of waters hath passed over, Given forth hath the deep its voice, High its hands it hath lifted up.
