[1] After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul. [2] When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, “Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that prosperity is coming to this nation by your foresight, [3] we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness. [4] But that I don’t delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words. [5] For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. [6] He even tried to profane the temple, and we arrested him. [7] [8] By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him.” [9] The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so. [10] When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, “Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense, [11] seeing that you can verify that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem. [12] In the temple they didn’t find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city. [13] Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me. [14] But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets; [15] having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. [16] In this I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men. [17] Now after some years, I came to bring gifts for the needy to my nation, and offerings; [18] amid which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with a mob, nor with turmoil. [19] They ought to have been here before you and to make accusation if they had anything against me. [20] Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council, [21] unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!’ ” [22] But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case.” [23] He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him. [24] After some days, Felix came with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus. [25] As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.” [26] Meanwhile, he also hoped that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often and talked with him. [27] But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

whoG3748 informedG1718(AorActInd) the governorG2232 againstG2596 Paul.G3972 [2] AndG1161 when heG846 was called forth,G2564(AorPasPtc) TertullusG5061 beganG756(AorMidDepInd) to accuseG2723(PresActInf) [him], saying,G3004(PresActPtc) Seeing that byG1223 theeG4675 we enjoyG5177(PresActPtc) greatG4183 quietness,G1515 andG2532 that very worthy deedsG2735 are doneG1096(PresMidPasDepPtc) unto thisG5129 nationG1484 byG1223 thyG4674 providence,G4307 [3] We acceptG588(PresMidPasDepInd) [it] always,G3839 andG2532 in all places,G3837 most nobleG2903 Felix,G5344 withG3326 allG3956 thankfulness.G2169 [4] Notwithstanding,G1161 thatG3363 I beG4119 notG3363 furtherG4119 tediousG1465(PresActSubj) unto thee,G4571 I prayG3870(PresActInd) theeG4571 that thou wouldest hearG191(AorActInf) usG2257 of thyG4674 clemencyG1932 a few words.G4935 [5] ForG1063 we have foundG2147(Aor2ActPtc) thisG5126 manG435 [a] pestilentG3061 [fellow], andG2532 a moverG2795(PresActPtc) of seditionG4714 among allG3956 the JewsG2453 throughoutG2596 the world,G3625 andG5037 a ringleaderG4414 of the sectG139 of the Nazarenes:G3480 [6] WhoG3739 alsoG2532 hath gone aboutG3985(ImpfActInd) to profaneG953(AorActInf) the temple:G2411 whomG3739 we took,G2902(AorActInd) andG2532 wouldG2309(AorActInd) have judgedG2919(PresActInf) accordingG2596 to ourG2251 law.G3551 [7] ButG1161 the chief captainG5506 LysiasG3079 cameG3928(Aor2ActPtc) [upon us], and withG3326 greatG4183 violenceG970 took [him] awayG520(Aor2ActInd) out ofG1537 ourG2257 hands,G5495 [8] CommandingG2753(AorActPtc) hisG846 accusersG2725 to comeG2064(PresMidPasDepInf) untoG1909 thee:G4571 by examiningG350(AorActPtc) ofG3844 whomG3739 thyselfG846 mayestG1410(FutMidDepInd) take knowledgeG1921(Aor2ActInf) ofG4012 allG3956 these things,G5130 whereofG3739 weG2249 accuseG2723(PresActInd) him.G846 [9] AndG1161 the JewsG2453 alsoG2532 assented,G4934(Aor2MidInd) sayingG5335(PresActPtc) that these thingsG5023 wereG2192(PresActInf) so.G3779 [10] ThenG1161 Paul,G3972 after that the governorG2232 had beckonedG3506(AorActPtc) unto himG846 to speak,G3004(PresActInf) answered,G611(AorMidDepInd) Forasmuch as I knowG1987(PresMidPasDepPtc) that thouG4571 hast beenG5607(PresPtc) ofG1537 manyG4183 yearsG2094 a judgeG2923 unto thisG5129 nation,G1484 I doG626 the more cheerfullyG2115 answerG626(PresMidPasDepInd) forG4012 myself:G1683 [11] Because that thouG4675 mayestG1410(PresMidPasDepPtc) understand,G1097(Aor2ActInf) thatG3754 there areG1526(PresInd) yet butG2228 twelveG1177 daysG2250 sinceG575 IG3427 went upG305(Aor2ActInd) toG1722 JerusalemG2419 for to worship.G4352(FutActPtc) [12] AndG2532 they neitherG3777 foundG2147(Aor2ActInd) meG3165 inG1722 the templeG2411 disputingG1256(PresMidPasDepPtc) withG4314 any man,G5100 neitherG2228 raising upG1999 the people,G3793 neitherG3777 inG1722 the synagogues,G4864 norG3777 inG2596 the city:G4172 [13] NeitherG3777 canG1410(PresMidPasDepInd) they proveG3936(AorActInf) the thingsG4012 whereofG3739 theyG2723 nowG3568 accuseG2723(PresActInd) me.G3450 [14] ButG1161 thisG5124 I confessG3670(PresActInd) unto thee,G4671 thatG3754 afterG2596 the wayG3598 whichG3739 they callG3004(PresActInd) heresy,G139 soG3779 worship IG3000(PresActInd) the GodG2316 of my fathers,G3971 believingG4100(PresActPtc) all thingsG3956 whichG3588 are writtenG1125(PerfPasPtc) inG2596 the lawG3551 andG2532 inG1722 the prophets:G4396 [15] And haveG2192(PresActPtc) hopeG1680 towardG1519 God,G2316 whichG3739 theyG3778 themselvesG846 alsoG2532 allow,G4327(PresMidPasDepInd) that there shall beG3195(PresActInf) a resurrectionG386 of the dead,G3498 bothG5037 of the justG1342 andG2532 unjust.G94 [16] AndG1161 hereinG1722 do I exerciseG778(PresActInd) myself,G846 to haveG2192(PresActInf) alwaysG1275 a conscienceG4893 void of offenceG677 towardG4314 God,G2316 andG2532 [toward] men.G444 [17] NowG1161 afterG1223 manyG4119 yearsG2094 I cameG3854(Aor2MidDepInd) to bringG4160(FutActPtc) almsG1654 toG1519 myG3450 nation,G1484 andG2532 offerings.G4376 [18] WhereuponG1722 certainG5100 JewsG2453 fromG575 AsiaG773 foundG2147(Aor2ActInd) meG3165 purifiedG48(PerfPasPtc) inG1722 the temple,G2411 neitherG3756 withG3326 multitude,G3793 norG3761 withG3326 tumult.G2351 [19] WhoG3739 oughtG1163(PresInd) to have been hereG3918(PresInf) beforeG1909 thee,G4675 andG2532 object,G2723(PresActInf) ifG1536 they hadG2192(PresActOpt) oughtG1536 againstG4314 me.G3165 [20] Or elseG2228 letG2036 theseG846 sameG3778 [here] say,G2036(Aor2ActImpr) ifG1536 they have foundG2147(Aor2ActInd) anyG1536 evil doingG92 inG1722 me,G1698 while IG3450 stoodG2476(Aor2ActPtc) beforeG1909 the council,G4892 [21] ExceptG2228 it be forG4012 thisG5026 oneG3391 voice,G5456 thatG3739 I criedG2896(AorActInd) standingG2476(PerfActPtc) amongG1722 them,G846 TouchingG3754 the resurrectionG386 of the deadG3498 IG1473 am called in questionG2919(PresPasInd) byG5259 youG5216 this day.G4594 [22] AndG1161 when FelixG5344 heardG191(AorActPtc) these things,G5023 having more perfectG197 knowledgeG1492(PerfActPtc) ofG4012 [that] way,G3598 he deferredG306(Aor2MidInd) them,G846 and said,G2036(Aor2ActPtc) WhenG3752 LysiasG3079 the chief captainG5506 shall come down,G2597(Aor2ActSubj) I will know the uttermostG1231(FutMidDepInd) of yourG5209 matter.G2596 [23] AndG5037 he commandedG1299(AorMidPtc) a centurionG1543 to keepG5083(PresPasInf) Paul,G3972 andG5037 to let [him] haveG2192(PresActInf) liberty,G425 andG2532 that he should forbidG2967(PresActInf) noneG3367 of hisG846 acquaintanceG2398 to ministerG5256(PresActInf) orG2228 comeG4334(PresMidPasDepInf) unto him.G846 [24] AndG1161 afterG3326 certainG5100 days,G2250 when FelixG5344 cameG3854(Aor2MidDepPtc) withG4862 hisG846 wifeG1135 Drusilla,G1409 which wasG5607(PresPtc) a Jewess,G2453 he sent forG3343(AorMidDepInd) Paul,G3972 andG2532 heardG191(AorActInd) himG846 concerningG4012 the faithG4102 inG1519 Christ.G5547 [25] AndG1161 as heG846 reasonedG1256(PresMidPasDepPtc) ofG4012 righteousness,G1343 temperance,G2532 andG2532 judgmentG2917 to come,G3195(PresActPtc) FelixG5344 trembled,G1096(Aor2MidDepPtc) and answered,G611(AorMidDepInd) Go thy wayG4198(PresMidPasDepImpr) for this time;G3568 whenG1161 I haveG2192(PresActPtc) a convenient season,G2540 I will call forG3333(FutMidInd) thee.G4571 [26] He hopedG1679(PresActPtc) alsoG260 thatG3754 moneyG5536 should have been givenG1325(FutPasInd) himG846 ofG5259 Paul,G3972 thatG3704 he might looseG3089(AorActSubj) him:G846 whereforeG1352 he sent forG3343(PresMidPasDepPtc) himG846 the oftener,G4437 andG2532 communed withG3656(ImpfActInd) him.G846 [27] ButG1161 afterG4137(AorPasPtc) two yearsG1333 PorciusG4201 FestusG5347 cameG2983(Aor2ActInd) into Felix’G5344 room:G1240 andG5037 Felix,G5344 willingG2309(PresActPtc) to shewG2698(Aor2MidInf) the JewsG2453 a pleasure,G5485 leftG2641(Aor2ActInd) PaulG3972 bound.G1210(PerfPasPtc)
