[1] Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. [2] As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.” [3] Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. [4] So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus. [5] When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant. [6] When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus, [7] who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God. [8] But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. [9] But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him [10] and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? [11] Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!”Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. [12] Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord. [13] Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem. [14] But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. [15] After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.” [16] Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen. [17] The God of this people‡ chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it. [18] For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. [19] When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years. [20] After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. [21] Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. [22] When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ [23] From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation‡ to Israel according to his promise, [24] before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.‡ [25] As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’ [26] “Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you. [27] For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. [28] Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed. [29] When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. [30] But God raised him from the dead, [31] and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people. [32] We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers, [33] that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm,
‘You are my Son.
Today I have become your father.’† [34] “Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’† [35] Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’† [36] For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay. [37] But he whom God raised up saw no decay. [38] Be it known to you therefore, brothers,§ that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins; [39] and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. [40] Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:
[41] ‘Behold, you scoffers!
Wonder and perish,
for I work a work in your days,
a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’ ”† [42] So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. [43] Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. [44] The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God. [45] But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed. [46] Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. [47] For so has the Lord commanded us, saying,
‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles,
that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’ ”† [48] As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed. [49] The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region. [50] But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders. [51] But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium. [52] The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

AsG1161 theyG846 ministeredG3008(PresActPtc) to the Lord,G2962 andG2532 fasted,G3522(PresActPtc) the HolyG40 GhostG4151 said,G2036(Aor2ActInd) SeparateG873(AorActImpr) meG3427 BarnabasG921 andG2532 SaulG4569 forG1519 the workG2041 whereuntoG3739 I have calledG4341(PerfMidPasDepInd) them.G846 [3] AndG5119 when they had fastedG3522(AorActPtc) andG2532 prayed,G4336(AorMidDepPtc) andG2532 laidG2007 [their] handsG5495 onG2007(Aor2ActPtc) them,G846 they sent [them] away.G630(AorActInd) [4] SoG3303 they,G3778 being sent forthG1599(AorPasPtc) byG5259 the HolyG40 Ghost,G4151 departedG2718(Aor2ActInd) untoG1519 Seleucia;G4581 and fromG1564 thenceG5037 they sailedG636(AorActInd) toG1519 Cyprus.G2954 [5] AndG2532 when they wereG1096(Aor2MidDepPtc) atG1722 Salamis,G4529 they preachedG2605(ImpfActInd) the wordG3056 of GodG2316 inG1722 the synagoguesG4864 of the Jews:G2453 andG1161 they hadG2192(ImpfActInd) alsoG2532 JohnG2491 to [their] minister.G5257 [6] AndG1161 when they had gone throughG1330(Aor2ActPtc) the isleG3520 untoG891 Paphos,G3974 they foundG2147(Aor2ActInd) a certainG5100 sorcerer,G3097 a false prophet,G5578 a Jew,G2453 whoseG3739 nameG3686 [was] Barjesus:G919 [7] WhichG3739 wasG2258(ImpfInd) withG4862 the deputy of the country,G446 SergiusG4588 Paulus,G3972 a prudentG4908 man;G435 whoG3778 calledG4341(AorMidDepPtc) for BarnabasG921 andG2532 Saul,G4569 and desiredG1934(AorActInd) to hearG191(AorActInf) the wordG3056 of God.G2316 [8] ButG1161 ElymasG1681 the sorcererG3097 (forG1063 soG3779 is hisG846 nameG3686 by interpretationG3177(PresPasInd)) withstoodG436(ImpfMidInd) them,G846 seekingG2212(PresActPtc) to turn awayG1294(AorActInf) the deputyG446 fromG575 the faith.G4102 [9] ThenG1161 Saul,G4569 (whoG3588 alsoG2532 [is called] Paul,G3972) filled withG4130(AorPasPtc) the HolyG40 Ghost,G4151 set his eyesG816(AorActPtc) onG1519 him,G846 [10] And said,G2036(Aor2ActInd) OG5599 fullG4134 of allG3956 subtiltyG1388 andG2532 allG3956 mischief,G4468 [thou] childG5207 of the devil,G1228 [thou] enemyG2190 of allG3956 righteousness,G1343 wilt thouG3973 notG3756 ceaseG3973(FutMidDepInd) to pervertG1294(PresActPtc) the rightG2117 waysG3598 of the Lord?G2962 [11] AndG2532 now,G3568 behold,G2400(Aor2ActImpr) the handG5495 of the LordG2962 [is] uponG1909 thee,G4571 andG2532 thou shalt beG2071(FutInd) blind,G5185 notG3361 seeingG991(PresActPtc) the sunG2246 forG891 a season.G2540 AndG1161 immediatelyG3916 there fellG1968(Aor2ActInd) onG1909 himG846 a mistG887 andG2532 a darkness;G4655 andG2532 he went aboutG4013(PresActPtc) seekingG2212(ImpfActInd) some to lead him by the hand.G5497 [12] ThenG5119 the deputy,G446 when he sawG1492(Aor2ActPtc) what was done,G1096(Perf2ActPtc) believed,G4100(AorActInd) being astonishedG1605(PresPasPtc) atG1909 the doctrineG1322 of the Lord.G2962 [13] NowG1161 when PaulG3972 and his companyG4012 loosedG321(AorPasPtc) fromG575 Paphos,G3974 they cameG2064(Aor2ActInd) toG1519 PergaG4011 in Pamphylia:G3828 andG1161 JohnG2491 departingG672(AorActPtc) fromG575 themG846 returnedG5290(AorActInd) toG1519 Jerusalem.G2414 [14] ButG1161 when theyG846 departedG1330(Aor2ActPtc) fromG575 Perga,G4011 they cameG3854(Aor2MidDepInd) toG1519 AntiochG490 in Pisidia,G4099 andG2532 wentG1525(Aor2ActPtc) intoG1519 the synagogueG4864 on the sabbathG4521 day,G2250 and sat down.G2523(AorActInd) [15] AndG1161 afterG3326 the readingG320 of the lawG3551 andG2532 the prophetsG4396 the rulers of the synagogueG752 sentG649(AorActInd) untoG4314 them,G846 saying,G3004(PresActPtc) [Ye] menG435 [and] brethren,G80 ifG1487 ye haveG2076(PresInd) any wordG3056 of exhortationG3874 forG4314 the people,G2992 say on.G3004(PresActImpr) [16] ThenG1161 PaulG3972 stood up,G450(Aor2ActPtc) andG2532 beckoningG2678(AorActPtc) with [his] handG5495 said,G2036(Aor2ActInd) MenG435 of Israel,G2475 andG2532 ye that fearG5399(PresMidPasDepPtc) God,G2316 give audience.G191(AorActImpr) [17] The GodG2316 of thisG5127 peopleG2992 of IsraelG2474 choseG1586(AorMidInd) ourG2257 fathers,G3962 andG2532 exaltedG5312(AorActInd) the peopleG2992 whenG1722 they dwelt as strangersG3940 inG1722 the landG1093 of Egypt,G125 andG2532 withG3326 an highG5308 armG1023 brought heG1806(Aor2ActInd) themG846 out ofG1537 it.G846 [18] AndG2532 aboutG5613 the timeG5550 of forty yearsG5063 suffered heG5159 theirG846 mannersG5159(AorActInd) inG1722 the wilderness.G2048 [19] AndG2532 when he had destroyedG2507(Aor2ActPtc) sevenG2033 nationsG1484 inG1722 the landG1093 of Chanaan,G5477 he dividedG2624 theirG846 landG1093 to themG846 by lot.G2624(AorActInd) [20] AndG2532 afterG3326 thatG5023 he gaveG1325(AorActInd) [unto them] judgesG2923 aboutG5613 the space of four hundredG5071 andG2532 fiftyG4004 years,G2094 untilG2193 SamuelG4545 the prophet.G4396 [21] And afterwardG2547 they desiredG154(AorMidInd) a king:G935 andG2532 GodG2316 gaveG1325(AorActInd) unto themG846 SaulG4549 the sonG5207 of Cis,G2797 a manG435 ofG1537 the tribeG5443 of Benjamin,G958 by the space of fortyG5062 years.G2094 [22] AndG2532 when he had removedG3179(AorActPtc) him,G846 he raised upG1453(AorActInd) unto themG846 DavidG1138 to beG1519 their king;G935 to whomG3739 alsoG2532 he gave testimony,G3140(AorActPtc) and said,G2036(Aor2ActInd) I have foundG2147(Aor2ActInd) DavidG1138 the [son] of Jesse,G2421 a manG435 afterG2596 mine ownG3450 heart,G2588 whichG3739 shall fulfilG4160(FutActInd) allG3956 myG3450 will.G2307 [23] OfG575 this man’sG5127 seedG4690 hathG1453 GodG2316 accordingG2596 to [his] promiseG1860 raisedG1453(AorActInd) unto IsraelG2474 a Saviour,G4990 Jesus:G2424 [24] When JohnG2491 had first preachedG4296(AorActPtc) beforeG4253 hisG846 comingG4383 the baptismG908 of repentanceG3341 to allG3956 the peopleG2992 of Israel.G2474 [25] AndG1161 asG5613 JohnG2491 fulfilledG4137(ImpfActInd) his course,G1408 he said,G3004(ImpfActInd) WhomG5101 think yeG5282(PresActInd) that IG3165 am?G1511(PresInf) IG1473 amG1510(PresInd) notG3756 [he]. But,G235 behold,G2400(Aor2ActImpr) there cometh oneG2064(PresMidPasDepInd) afterG3326 me,G1691 whoseG3739 shoesG5266 of [his] feetG4228 I amG1510(PresInd) notG3756 worthyG514 to loose.G3089(AorActInf) [26] MenG435 [and] brethren,G80 childrenG5207 of the stockG1085 of Abraham,G11 andG2532 whosoever amongG1722 youG5213 fearethG5399(PresMidPasDepPtc) God,G2316 to youG5213 isG649 the wordG3056 of thisG5026 salvationG4991 sent.G649(Aor2PasDepSubj) [27] ForG1063 they that dwellG2730(PresActPtc) atG1722 Jerusalem,G2419 andG2532 theirG846 rulers,G758 because they knewG50 himG5126 not,G50(AorActPtc) nor yetG2532 the voicesG5456 of the prophetsG4396 whichG3588 are readG314(PresPasPtc) everyG3956 sabbath day,G4521 they have fulfilledG4137(AorActInd) [them] in condemningG2919(AorActPtc) [him]. [28] AndG2532 though they foundG2147(Aor2ActPtc) noG3367 causeG156 of deathG2288 [in him], yet desired theyG154(AorMidInd) PilateG4091 that heG846 should be slain.G337(AorPasInf) [29] AndG1161 whenG5613 they had fulfilledG5055(AorActInd) allG537 that was writtenG1125(PerfPasPtc) ofG4012 him,G846 they took [him] downG2507(Aor2ActPtc) fromG575 the tree,G3586 and laidG5087(AorActInd) [him] inG1519 a sepulchre.G3419 [30] ButG1161 GodG2316 raisedG1453(AorActInd) himG846 fromG1537 the dead:G3498 [31] And heG3739 was seenG3700(AorPasInd) manyG1909 daysG2250 of them which came up withG4872(Aor2ActPtc) himG846 fromG575 GalileeG1056 toG1519 Jerusalem,G2419 whoG3748 areG1526(PresInd) hisG846 witnessesG3144 untoG4314 the people.G2992 [32] AndG2532 weG2249 declareG2097 unto youG5209 glad tidings,G2097(PresMidInd) how thatG3754 the promiseG1860 which was madeG1096(Aor2MidDepPtc) untoG4314 the fathers,G3962 [33] GodG2316 hath fulfilledG1603(PerfActInd) the sameG5026 unto usG2254 theirG846 children,G5043 in that he hath raised upG450 JesusG2424 again;G450(AorActPtc) asG5613 it isG1125 alsoG2532 writtenG1125(PerfPasInd) inG1722 the secondG1208 psalm,G5568 ThouG4771 artG1488(PresInd) myG3450 Son,G5207 this dayG4594 have IG1473 begottenG1080(PerfActInd) thee.G4571 [34] AndG1161 as concerning thatG3754 he raisedG450 himG846 upG450(AorActInd) fromG1537 the dead,G3498 [now] no moreG3371 toG3195(PresActPtc) returnG5290(PresActInf) toG1519 corruption,G1312 he saidG2046(PerfActInd) on this wise,G3779 I will giveG1325(FutActInd) youG5213 the sureG4103 merciesG3741 of David.G1138 [35] WhereforeG1352 he saithG3004(PresActInd) alsoG2532 inG1722 anotherG2087 [psalm], Thou shaltG1325 notG3756 sufferG1325(FutActInd) thineG4675 Holy OneG3741 to seeG1492(Aor2ActInf) corruption.G1312 [36] ForG1063 David,G1138 after he had servedG5256(AorActPtc) his ownG2398 generationG1074 by the willG1012 of God,G2316 fell on sleep,G2837(AorPasInd) andG2532 was laidG4369(AorPasInd) untoG4314 hisG846 fathers,G3962 andG2532 sawG1492(Aor2ActInd) corruption:G1312 [37] ButG1161 he, whomG3739 GodG2316 raised again,G1453(AorActInd) sawG1492(Aor2ActInd) noG3756 corruption.G1312 [38] Be itG2077(PresImpr) knownG1110 unto youG5213 therefore,G3767 menG435 [and] brethren,G80 thatG3754 throughG1223 this manG5127 is preachedG2605(PresPasInd) unto youG5213 the forgivenessG859 of sins:G266 [39] AndG2532 byG1722 himG5129 allG3956 that believeG4100(PresActPtc) are justifiedG1344(PresPasInd) fromG575 all things,G3956 from whichG3739 ye couldG1410(AorPasDepInd) notG3756 be justifiedG1344(AorPasInf) byG1722 the lawG3551 of Moses.G3475 [40] BewareG991(PresActImpr) therefore,G3767 lest thatG3361 comeG1904(Aor2ActSubj) uponG1909 you,G5209 which is spoken ofG2046(PerfPasPtc) inG1722 the prophets;G4396 [41] Behold,G1492(Aor2ActImpr) ye despisers,G2707 andG2532 wonder,G2296(AorActImpr) andG2532 perish:G853(AorPasImpr) forG3754 IG1473
