[1] In the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, [2] “Son of man, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt and his multitude:
‘Whom are you like in your greatness?
[3] Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon
with beautiful branches,
and with a forest-like shade,
of high stature;
and its top was among the thick boughs.
[4] The waters nourished it.
The deep made it to grow.
Its rivers ran all around its plantation.
It sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.
[5] Therefore its stature was exalted above all the trees of the field;
and its boughs were multiplied.
Its branches became long by reason of many waters,
when it spread them out.
[6] All the birds of the sky made their nests in its boughs.
Under its branches, all the animals of the field gave birth to their young.
All great nations lived under its shadow.
[7] Thus it was beautiful in its greatness,
in the length of its branches;
for its root was by many waters.
[8] The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it.
The cypress trees were not like its branches.
The pine trees were not like its branches;
nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty.
[9] I made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches,
so that all the trees of Eden,
that were in the garden of God, envied it.’ [10] “Therefore thus said the Lord Yahweh: ‘Because he is exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick branches, and his heart is lifted up in his height, [11] I will deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations. He will surely deal with him. I have driven him out for his wickedness. [12] Foreigners, the tyrants of the nations, have cut him off and have left him. His branches have fallen on the mountains and in all the valleys, and his boughs are broken by all the watercourses of the land. All the peoples of the earth have gone down from his shadow and have left him. [13] All the birds of the sky will dwell on his ruin, and all the animals of the field will be on his branches, [14] to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, and don’t set their top among the thick boughs. Their mighty ones don’t stand up on their height, even all who drink water; for they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, among the children of men, with those who go down to the pit.’ [15] “The Lord Yahweh says: ‘In the day when he went down to Sheol,ⓘ I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its rivers. The great waters were stopped. I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. [16] I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheolⓘ with those who descend into the pit. All the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth. [17] They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword; yes, those who were his arm, who lived under his shadow in the middle of the nations. [18] “ ‘To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth. You will lie in the middle of the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword.“ ‘This is Pharaoh and all his multitude,’ says the Lord Yahweh.”

[1] And it came to pass in the eleventhH259 year,H8141 in the thirdH7992 [month], in the firstH259 [day] of the month,H2320 [that] the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 came unto me, saying,H559(QalInf) [2] SonH1121 of man,H120 speakH559(QalImpv) unto PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of Egypt,H4714 and to his multitude;H1995 Whom art thou likeH1819(QalPerf) in thy greatness?H1433 [3] Behold, the AssyrianH804 [was] a cedarH730 in LebanonH3844 with fairH3303 branches,H6057 and with a shadowingH6751(HiphPtc) shroud,H2793 and of an highH1362 stature;H6967 and his topH6788 was among the thick boughs.H5688 [4] The watersH4325 made him great,H1431(PielPerf) the deepH8415 set him up on highH7311(PolePerf) with her riversH5104 runningH1980(QalActPtc) round aboutH5439 his plants,H4302 and sent outH7971(PielPerf) her little riversH8585 unto all the treesH6086 of the field.H7704 [5] Therefore his heightH6967 was exaltedH1361(QalPerf) above all the treesH6086 of the field,H7704 and his boughsH5634 were multiplied,H7235(QalImpf) and his branchesH6288 became longH748(QalImpf) because of the multitudeH7227 of waters,H4325 when he shot forth.H7971(PielInf) [6] All the fowlsH5775 of heavenH8064 made their nestsH7077(PielPerf) in his boughs,H5589 and under his branchesH6288 did all the beastsH2416 of the fieldH7704 bring forth their young,H3205(QalPerf) and under his shadowH6738 dweltH3427(QalImpf) all greatH7227 nations.H1471 [7] Thus was he fairH3302(QalImpf) in his greatness,H1433 in the lengthH753 of his branches:H1808 for his rootH8328 was by greatH7227 waters.H4325 [8] The cedarsH730 in the gardenH1588 of GodH430 could not hideH6004(QalPerf) him: the fir treesH1265 were not likeH1819(QalPerf) his boughs,H5589 and the chesnut treesH6196 were not like his branches;H6288 nor any treeH6086 in the gardenH1588 of GodH430 was likeH1819(QalPerf) unto him in his beauty.H3308 [9] I have madeH6213(QalPerf) him fairH3303 by the multitudeH7230 of his branches:H1808 so that all the treesH6086 of Eden,H5731 that [were] in the gardenH1588 of God,H430 enviedH7065(PielImpf) him. [10] Therefore thus saithH559(QalPerf) the LordH136 God;H3069 Because thou hast lifted upH1361(QalPerf) thyself in height,H6967 and he hath shot upH5414(QalImpf) his topH6788 among the thick boughs,H5688 and his heartH3824 is lifted upH7311(QalPerf) in his height;H1363 [11] I have therefore deliveredH5414(QalImpf) him into the handH3027 of the mighty oneH410 of the heathen;H1471 he shall surelyH6213(QalInf) dealH6213(QalImpf) with him: I have driven him outH1644(PielPerf) for his wickedness.H7562 [12] And strangers,H2114(QalPtc) the terribleH6184 of the nations,H1471 have cut him off,H3772(QalImpf) and have leftH5203(QalImpf) him: upon the mountainsH2022 and in all the valleysH1516 his branchesH1808 are fallen,H5307(QalPerf) and his boughsH6288 are brokenH7665(NiphImpf) by all the riversH650 of the land;H776 and all the peopleH5971 of the earthH776 are gone downH3381(QalImpf) from his shadow,H6738 and have leftH5203(QalImpf) him. [13] Upon his ruinH4658 shall all the fowlsH5775 of the heavenH8064 remain,H7931(QalImpf) and all the beastsH2416 of the fieldH7704 shall be upon his branches:H6288 [14] To the end that none of all the treesH6086 by the watersH4325 exaltH1361(QalImpf) themselves for their height,H6967 neither shoot upH5414(QalImpf) their topH6788 among the thick boughs,H5688 neither their treesH352 stand upH5975(QalImpf) in their height,H1363 all that drinkH8354(QalActPtc) water:H4325 for they are all deliveredH5414(NiphPerf) unto death,H4194 to the nether partsH8482 of the earth,H776 in the midstH8432 of the childrenH1121 of men,H120 with them that go downH3381(QalActPtc) to the pit.H953 [15] Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the LordH136 God;H3069 In the dayH3117 when he went downH3381(QalInf) to the graveH7585 I caused a mourning:H56(HiphPerf) I coveredH3680(PielPerf) the deepH8415 for him, and I restrainedH4513(QalImpf) the floodsH5104 thereof, and the greatH7227 watersH4325 were stayed:H3607(NiphImpf) and I caused LebanonH3844 to mournH6937(HiphImpf) for him, and all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704 faintedH5969 for him. [16] I made the nationsH1471 to shakeH7493(HiphPerf) at the soundH6963 of his fall,H4658 when I cast him downH3381(HiphInf) to hellH7585 with them that descendH3381(QalActPtc) into the pit:H953 and all the treesH6086 of Eden,H5731 the choiceH4005 and bestH2896 of Lebanon,H3844 all that drinkH8354(QalActPtc) water,H4325 shall be comfortedH5162(NiphImpf) in the nether partsH8482 of the earth.H776 [17] They also went downH3381(QalPerf) into hellH7585 with him unto [them that be] slainH2491 with the sword;H2719 and [they that were] his arm,H2220 [that] dweltH3427(QalPerf) under his shadowH6738 in the midstH8432 of the heathen.H1471 [18] To whom art thou thus likeH1819(QalPerf) in gloryH3519 and in greatnessH1433 among the treesH6086 of Eden?H5731 yet shalt thou be brought downH3381(HophPerf) with the treesH6086 of EdenH5731 unto the nether partsH8482 of the earth:H776 thou shalt lieH7901(QalImpf) in the midstH8432 of the uncircumcisedH6189 with [them that be] slainH2491 by the sword.H2719 This [is] PharaohH6547 and all his multitude,H1995 saithH5002(QalPasPtc) the LordH136 God.H3069
