[1] Now on the second Sabbath after the first, he was going through the grain fields. His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands. [2] But some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why do you do that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath day?” [3] Jesus, answering them, said, “Haven’t you read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him, [4] how he entered into God’s house, and took and ate the show bread, and gave also to those who were with him, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?” [5] He said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.” [6] It also happened on another Sabbath that he entered into the synagogue and taught. There was a man there, and his right hand was withered. [7] The scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against him. [8] But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up and stand in the middle.” He arose and stood. [9] Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you something: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?” [10] He looked around at them all, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his hand was restored as sound as the other. [11] But they were filled with rage, and talked with one another about what they might do to Jesus. [12] In these days, he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. [13] When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: [14] Simon, whom he also named Peter; Andrew, his brother; James; John; Philip; Bartholomew; [15] Matthew; Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus; Simon who was called the Zealot; [16] Judas the son of James; and Judas Iscariot, who also became a traitor. [17] He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases, [18] as well as those who were troubled by unclean spirits; and they were being healed. [19] All the multitude sought to touch him, for power came out of him and healed them all. [20] He lifted up his eyes to his disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for God’s Kingdom is yours.
[21] Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
[22] Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude and mock you, and throw out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake.
[23] Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven, for their fathers did the same thing to the prophets. [24] “But woe to you who are rich!
For you have received your consolation.
[25] Woe to you, you who are full now,
for you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.
[26] Woe, when men speak well of you,
for their fathers did the same thing to the false prophets.
[27] “But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, [28] bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. [29] To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak, don’t withhold your coat also. [30] Give to everyone who asks you, and don’t ask him who takes away your goods to give them back again. [31] “As you would like people to do to you, do exactly so to them. [32] “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. [33] If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. [34] If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive back as much. [35] But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.
[36] “Therefore be merciful,
even as your Father is also merciful.
[37] Don’t judge,
and you won’t be judged.
Don’t condemn,
and you won’t be condemned.
Set free,
and you will be set free.
[38] “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you.§ For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you.” [39] He spoke a parable to them. “Can the blind guide the blind? Won’t they both fall into a pit? [40] A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. [41] Why do you see the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye? [42] Or how can you tell your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck of chaff that is in your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye. [43] “For there is no good tree that produces rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree that produces good fruit. [44] For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people don’t gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. [45] The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks. [46] “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say? [47] Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words and does them, I will show you who he is like. [48] He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep and laid a foundation on the rock. When a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it was founded on the rock. [49] But he who hears and doesn’t do, is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”

[10] AndG2532 looking round about uponG4017(AorMidPtc) themG846 all,G3956 he saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto the man,G444 Stretch forthG1614(AorActImpr) thyG4675 hand.G5495 AndG1161 he didG4160(AorActInd) so:G3779 andG2532 hisG846 handG5495 was restoredG600(AorPasInd) wholeG5199 asG5613 the other.G243 [11] AndG1161 theyG846 were filledG4130(AorPasInd) with madness;G454 andG2532 communedG1255(ImpfActInd) one with anotherG4314 whatG5101 they might doG4160(AorActOpt) to Jesus.G2424 [12] AndG1161 it came to passG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) inG1722 thoseG5025 days,G2250 that he went outG1831(Aor2ActInd) intoG1519 a mountainG3735 to pray,G4336(AorMidDepInf) andG2532 continued all nightG1273(PresActPtc) inG1722 prayerG4335 to God.G2316 [13] AndG2532 whenG3753 it wasG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) day,G2250 he calledG4377(AorActInd) [unto him] hisG846 disciples:G3101 andG2532 ofG575 themG846 he choseG1586(AorMidPtc) twelve,G1427 whomG3739 alsoG2532 he namedG3687(AorActInd) apostles;G652 [14] Simon,G4613 (whomG3739 he alsoG2532 namedG3687(AorActInd) Peter,G4074) andG2532 AndrewG406 hisG846 brother,G80 JamesG2385 andG2532 John,G2491 PhilipG5376 of James,G2385 andG2532 JudasG2455 Iscariot,G2469 whichG3739 alsoG2532 wasG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) the traitor.G4273 [17] AndG2532 he came downG2597(Aor2ActPtc) withG3326 them,G846 and stoodG2476(Aor2ActInd) inG1909 the plain,G3977 andG2532 the companyG3793 of hisG846 disciples,G3101 andG2532 a greatG4183 multitudeG4128 of peopleG2992 out ofG575 allG3956 JudaeaG2449 andG2532 Jerusalem,G2419 andG2532 from the sea coastG3882 of TyreG5184 andG2532 Sidon,G4605 whichG3739 cameG2064(Aor2ActInd) to hearG191(AorActInf) him,G846 andG2532 to be healedG2390(AorPasInf) ofG575 theirG846 diseases;G3554 [18] AndG2532 they that were vexedG3791(PresPasPtc) withG5259 uncleanG169 spirits:G4151 andG2532 they were healed.G2323(ImpfPasInd) [19] AndG2532 the wholeG3956 multitudeG3793 soughtG2212(ImpfActInd) to touchG680(PresMidInf) him:G846 forG3754 there wentG1831(ImpfMidPasDepInd) virtueG1411 outG3844 of him,G846 andG2532 healedG2390(ImpfMidPasDepInd) [them] all.G3956 [20] AndG2532 heG846 lifted upG1869(AorActPtc) hisG846 eyesG3788 onG1519 hisG846 disciples,G3101 and said,G3004(ImpfActInd) BlessedG3107 [be ye] poor:G4434 forG3754 yoursG5212 isG2076(PresInd) the kingdomG932 of God.G2316 [21] BlessedG3107 [are ye] that hungerG3983(PresActPtc) now:G3568 forG3754 ye shall be filled.G5526(FutPasInd) BlessedG3107 [are ye] that weepG2799(PresActPtc) now:G3568 forG3754 ye shall laugh.G1070(FutActInd) [22] BlessedG3107 are ye,G2075(PresInd) whenG3752 menG444 shall hateG3404(AorActSubj) you,G5209 andG2532 whenG3752 they shall separateG873(AorActSubj) youG5209 [from their company], andG2532 shall reproachG3679(AorActSubj) [you], andG2532 cast outG1544(Aor2ActSubj) yourG5216 nameG3686 asG5613 evil,G4190 for the SonG5207 of man’sG444 sake.G1752 [23] Rejoice yeG5463(PresActImpr) inG1722 thatG1565 day,G2250 andG2532 leap for joy:G4640(AorActImpr) for,G1063 behold,G2400(Aor2ActImpr) yourG5216 rewardG3408 [is] greatG4183 inG1722 heaven:G3772 forG1063 inG2596 the like mannerG5024 didG4160(ImpfActInd) theirG846 fathersG3962 unto the prophets.G4396 [24] ButG4133 woeG3759 unto youG5213 that are rich!G4145 forG3754 ye have receivedG568(PresActInd) yourG5216 consolation.G3874 [25] WoeG3759 unto youG5213 that are full!G1705(PerfPasPtc) forG3754 ye shall hunger.G3983(FutActInd) WoeG3759 unto youG5213 that laughG1070(PresActPtc) now!G3568 forG3754 ye shall mournG3996(FutActInd) andG2532 weep.G2799(FutActInd) [26] WoeG3759 unto you,G5213 whenG3752 allG3956 menG444 shall speakG2036(Aor2ActSubj) wellG2573 of you!G5209 forG1063 soG5024 didG4160(ImpfActInd) theirG846 fathersG3962 to the false prophets.G5578 [27] ButG235 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto youG5213 whichG3588 hear,G191(PresActPtc) LoveG25(PresActImpr) yourG5216 enemies,G2190 doG4160(PresActImpr) goodG2573 to them whichG3588 hateG3404(PresActPtc) you,G5209 [28] BlessG2127(PresActImpr) them that curseG2672(PresMidPasDepPtc) you,G5213 andG2532 prayG4336(PresMidPasDepImpr) forG5228 them which despitefully useG1908(PresActPtc) you.G5209 [29] And unto him that smitethG5180(PresActPtc) theeG4571 onG1909 the [one] cheekG4600 offerG3930(PresActImpr) alsoG2532 the other;G243 andG2532 himG575 that taketh awayG142(PresActPtc) thyG4675 clokeG2440 forbidG2967(AorActSubj) notG3361 [to take thy] coatG5509 also.G2532 [30] GiveG1325(PresActImpr) to every manG3956 that askethG154(PresActPtc) of thee;G4571 andG2532 ofG575 him that taketh awayG142(PresActPtc) thy goodsG4674 askG523 [them] notG3361 again.G523(PresActImpr) [31] AndG2532 asG2531 ye wouldG2309(PresActInd) thatG2443 menG444 should doG4160(PresActSubj) to you,G5213 doG4160(PresActImpr) yeG5210 alsoG2532 to themG846 likewise.G3668 [32] ForG2532 ifG1487 ye loveG25(PresActInd) them which loveG25(PresActPtc) you,G5209 whatG4169 thankG5485 haveG2076(PresInd) ye?G5213 forG1063 sinnersG268 alsoG2532 loveG25(PresActPtc) those that loveG25(PresActInd) them.G846 [33] AndG2532 ifG1437 ye do goodG15(PresActSubj) to them which do goodG15(PresActPtc) to you,G5209 whatG4169 thankG5485 haveG2076(PresInd) ye?G5213 forG1063 sinnersG268 also doG4160(PresActInd) evenG2532 the same.G846 [34] AndG2532 ifG1437 ye lendG1155(PresActSubj) [to them] ofG3844 whomG3739 ye hopeG1679(PresActInd) to receive,G618(Aor2ActInf) whatG4169 thankG5485 haveG2076(PresInd) ye?G5213 forG1063 sinnersG268 alsoG2532 lendG1155(PresActInd) to sinners,G268 toG2443 receiveG618 as muchG2470 again.G618(Aor2ActSubj) [35] ButG4133 love yeG25(PresActImpr) yourG5216 enemies,G2190 andG2532 do good,G15(PresActImpr) andG2532 lend,G1155(PresActImpr) hopingG560 for nothingG3367 again;G560(PresActPtc) andG2532 yourG5216 rewardG3408 shall beG2071(FutInd) great,G4183 andG2532 ye shall beG2071(FutInd) the childrenG5207 of the Highest:G5310 forG3754 heG846 isG2076(PresInd) kindG5543 untoG1909 the unthankfulG884 andG2532 [to] the evil.G4190 [36] Be yeG1096(PresMidPasDepImpr) thereforeG3767 merciful,G3629 asG2531 yourG5216 FatherG3962 alsoG2532 isG2076(PresInd) merciful.G3629 [37] JudgeG2919(PresActImpr) not,G3361 andG2532 ye shallG2919 notG3364 be judged:G2919(AorPasSubj) condemnG2613(PresActImpr) not,G3361 andG2532 ye shallG2613 notG3364 be condemned:G2613(AorPasSubj) forgive,G630(PresActImpr) andG2532 ye shall be forgiven:G630(FutPasInd) [38] Give,G1325(PresActImpr) andG2532 it shall be givenG1325(FutPasInd) unto you;G5213 goodG2570 measure,G3358 pressed down,G4085(PerfPasPtc) andG2532 shaken together,G4531(PerfPasPtc) andG2532 running over,G5240(PresPasPtc) shall men giveG1325(FutActInd) intoG1519 yourG5216 bosom.G2859 ForG1063 with the sameG846 measureG3358 thatG3739 ye mete withalG3354(PresActInd) it shall be measuredG488 to youG5213 again.G488(FutPasInd) [39] AndG1161 he spakeG2036(Aor2ActInd) a parableG3850 unto them,G846 CanG1410(PresMidPasDepInd) the blindG5185 leadG3594(PresActInf) the blind?G5185 shall theyG297 notG3780 bothG297 fallG4098(FutMidPasDepInd) intoG1519 the ditch?G999 [40] The discipleG3101 isG2076(PresInd) notG3756 aboveG5228 hisG846 master:G1320 butG1161 every oneG3956 that is perfectG2675(PerfPasPtc) shall beG2071(FutInd) asG5613 hisG846 master.G1320 [41] AndG1161 whyG5101 beholdest thouG991(PresActInd) the moteG2595 that is inG1722 thyG4675 brother’sG80 eye,G3788 butG1161 perceivestG2657(PresActInd) notG3756 the beamG1385 that is inG1722 thine ownG2398 eye?G3788 [42] EitherG2228 howG4459 canst thouG1410(PresMidPasDepInd) sayG3004(PresActInf) to thyG4675 brother,G80 Brother,G80 let meG863(Aor2ActImpr) pull outG1544(Aor2ActSubj) the moteG2595 that is inG1722 thineG4675 eye,G3788 when thouG991 thyselfG846 beholdestG991(PresActPtc) notG3756 the beamG1385 that is inG1722 thineG4675 own eye?G3788 Thou hypocrite,G5273 cast outG1544(Aor2ActImpr) firstG4412 the beamG1385 out ofG1537 thine ownG4675 eye,G3788 andG2532 thenG5119 shalt thou see clearlyG1227(FutActInd) to pull outG1544(Aor2ActInf) the moteG2595 that is inG1722 thyG4675 brother’sG80 eye.G3788 [43] ForG1063 a goodG2570 treeG1186 bringethG2076(PresInd) notG3756 forthG4160(PresActPtc) corruptG4550 fruit;G2590 neitherG3761 dothG4160 a corruptG4550 treeG1186 bring forthG4160(PresActPtc) goodG2570 fruit.G2590 [44] ForG1063 everyG1538 treeG1186 is knownG1097(PresPasInd) byG1537 his ownG2398 fruit.G2590 ForG1063 ofG1537 thornsG173 men do notG3756 gatherG4816(PresActInd) figs,G4810 norG3761 ofG1537 a bramble bushG942 gather theyG5166(PresActInd) grapes.G4718 [45] A goodG18 manG444 out ofG1537 the goodG18 treasureG2344 of hisG846 heartG2588 bringeth forthG4393(PresActInd) that which is good;G18 andG2532 an
