[1] When he finished praying in a certain place, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.” [2] He said to them, “When you pray, say,
‘Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come.
May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
[3] Give us day by day our daily bread.
[4] Forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
Bring us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’ ” [5] He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, [6] for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’ [7] and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’? [8] I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs. [9] “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. [10] For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. [11] “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? [12] Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he? [13] If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” [14] He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the multitudes marveled. [15] But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.” [16] Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven. [17] But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. A house divided against itself falls. [18] If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. [19] But if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. [20] But if I by God’s finger cast out demons, then God’s Kingdom has come to you. [21] “When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own dwelling, his goods are safe. [22] But when someone stronger attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him his whole armor in which he trusted, and divides his plunder. [23] “He who is not with me is against me. He who doesn’t gather with me scatters. [24] The unclean spirit, when he has gone out of the man, passes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will turn back to my house from which I came out.’ [25] When he returns, he finds it swept and put in order. [26] Then he goes and takes seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first.” [27] It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!” [28] But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.” [29] When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet. [30] For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so the Son of Man will also be to this generation. [31] The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and will condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here. [32] The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, one greater than Jonah is here. [33] “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light. [34] The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness. [35] Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness. [36] If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light.” [37] Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in and sat at the table. [38] When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner. [39] The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness. [40] You foolish ones, didn’t he who made the outside make the inside also? [41] But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you. [42] But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and God’s love. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone. [43] Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces. [44] Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like hidden graves, and the men who walk over them don’t know it.” [45] One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying this you insult us also.” [46] He said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won’t even lift one finger to help carry those burdens. [47] Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. [48] So you testify and consent to the works of your fathers. For they killed them, and you build their tombs. [49] Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute, [50] that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, [51] from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation. [52] Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.” [53] As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him, [54] lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.

King James Version
[1] AndG2532 it came to pass,G1096(Aor2MidDepInd) that, asG1722 heG846 wasG1511(PresInf) prayingG4336(PresMidPasDepPtc) inG1722 a certainG5100 place,G5117 whenG5613 he ceased,G3973(AorMidInd) oneG5100 of hisG846 disciplesG3101 saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) untoG4314 him,G846 Lord,G2962 teachG1321(AorActImpr) usG2248 to pray,G4336(PresMidPasDepInf) asG2531 JohnG2491 alsoG2532 taughtG1321(AorActInd) hisG846 disciples.G3101 [2] AndG1161 he saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto them,G846 WhenG3752 ye pray,G4336(PresMidPasDepSubj) say,G3004(PresActImpr) OurG2257 FatherG3962 whichG3588 art inG1722 heaven,G3772 Hallowed beG37(AorPasImpr) thyG4675 name.G3686 ThyG4675 kingdomG932 come.G2064(Aor2ActImpr) ThyG4675 willG2307 be done,G1096(AorPasDepImpr) asG5613 inG1722 heaven,G3772 soG2532 inG1909 earth.G1093 [3] GiveG1325(PresActImpr) usG2254 dayG2596 by dayG2250 ourG2257 dailyG1967 bread.G740 [4] AndG2532 forgiveG863(Aor2ActImpr) usG2254 ourG2257 sins;G266 forG1063 weG846 alsoG2532 forgiveG863(PresActInd) every oneG3956 that is indebtedG3784(PresActPtc) to us.G2254 AndG2532 leadG1533(AorActSubj) usG2248 notG3361 intoG1519 temptation;G3986 butG235 deliverG4506(AorMidDepImpr) usG2248 fromG575 evil.G4190 [5] AndG2532 he saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) untoG4314 them,G846 WhichG5101 ofG1537 youG5216 shall haveG2192(FutActInd) a friend,G5384 andG2532 shall goG4198(FutMidDepInd) untoG4314 himG846 at midnight,G3317 andG2532 sayG2036(Aor2ActSubj) unto him,G846 Friend,G5384 lendG5531(AorActImpr) meG3427 threeG5140 loaves;G740 [6] ForG1894 a friendG5384 of mineG3450 inG1537 his journeyG3598 is comeG3854(Aor2MidDepInd) toG4314 me,G3165 andG2532 I haveG2192(PresActInd) nothingG3756 to set beforeG3908(FutActInd) him?G846 [7] And heG2548 from withinG2081 shall answerG611(AorPasDepPtc) and say,G2036(Aor2ActSubj) TroubleG2873 meG3427 not:G3361 the doorG2374 isG2808 nowG2235 shut,G2808(PerfPasInd) andG2532 myG3450 childrenG3813 areG1526(PresInd) withG3326 meG1700 inG1519 bed;G2845 I cannotG3756 riseG450(Aor2ActPtc) and giveG1325(Aor2ActInf) thee.G4671 [8] I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 ThoughG1499 he willG1453 notG3756 riseG1453(AorPasPtc) and giveG1325(FutActInd) him,G846 becauseG1223 he isG1511(PresInf) hisG846 friend,G5384 yetG1065 becauseG1223 of hisG846 importunityG335 he will riseG450(Aor2ActPtc) and giveG1325(FutActInd) himG846 as many asG3745 he needeth.G5535(PresActInd) [9] AndG2504 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 Ask,G154(PresActImpr) andG2532 it shall be givenG1325(FutPasInd) you;G5213 seek,G2212(PresActImpr) andG2532 ye shall find;G2147(FutActInd) knock,G2925(PresActImpr) andG2532 it shall be openedG455(Fut2PasInd) unto you.G5213 [10] ForG1063 every oneG3956 that askethG154(PresActPtc) receiveth;G2983(PresActInd) andG2532 he that seekethG2212(PresActPtc) findeth;G2147(PresActInd) andG2532 to him that knockethG2925(PresActPtc) it shall be opened.G455(Fut2PasInd) [11] IfG1161 a sonG5207 shall askG154(FutActInd) breadG740 of any of youG5216 that is a father,G3962 will he giveG1929(FutActInd) himG846 a stone?G3037 orG1499 if [he ask] a fish,G2486 will heG1929 forG473 a fishG2486 giveG1929(FutActInd) himG846 a serpent?G3789 [12] OrG2228 ifG1437 he shall askG154(AorActSubj) an egg,G5609 will he offerG3361 himG846 a scorpion?G4651 [13] IfG1487 yeG5210 then,G3767 beingG5225(PresActPtc) evil,G4190 knowG1492(PerfActInd) how to giveG1325(PresActInf) goodG18 giftsG1390 unto yourG5216 children:G5043 how muchG4214 moreG3123 shallG1325 [your] heavenlyG3772 FatherG3962 giveG1325(FutActInd) the HolyG40 SpiritG4151 to them that askG154(PresActPtc) him?G846 [14] AndG2532 he wasG2258(ImpfInd) casting outG1544(PresActPtc) a devil,G1140 andG2532 itG846 wasG2258(ImpfInd) dumb.G2974 AndG1161 it came to pass,G1096(Aor2MidDepInd) when the devilG1140 was gone out,G1831(Aor2ActPtc) the dumbG2974 spake;G2980(AorActInd) andG2532 the peopleG3793 wondered.G2296(AorActInd) [15] ButG1161 someG5100 ofG1537 themG846 said,G2036(Aor2ActInd) He casteth outG1544(PresActInd) devilsG1140 throughG1722 BeelzebubG954 the chiefG758 of the devils.G1140 [16] AndG1161 others,G2087 temptingG3985(PresActPtc) [him], soughtG2212(ImpfActInd) ofG3844 himG846 a signG4592 fromG1537 heaven.G3772 [17] ButG1161 he,G846 knowingG1492(PerfActPtc) theirG846 thoughts,G1270 saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto them,G846 EveryG3956 kingdomG932 dividedG1266(AorPasPtc) againstG1909 itselfG1438 is brought to desolation;G2049(PresPasInd) andG2532 a houseG3624 [divided] againstG1909 a houseG3624 falleth.G4098(PresActInd) [18] IfG1161 SatanG4567 alsoG1499 be dividedG1266(AorPasInd) againstG1909 himself,G1438 howG4459 shallG2476 hisG846 kingdomG932 stand?G2476(FutPasInd) becauseG3754 ye sayG3004(PresActInd) that IG3165 cast outG1544(PresActInf) devilsG1140 throughG1722 Beelzebub.G954 [19] AndG1161 ifG1487 IG1473 byG1722 BeelzebubG954 cast outG1544(PresActInd) devils,G1140 byG1722 whomG5101 doG1544 yourG5216 sonsG5207 cast [them] out?G1544(PresActInd) thereforeG1223 shall theyG846 beG2071(FutInd) yourG5216 judges.G2923 [20] ButG1161 ifG1487 I withG1722 the fingerG1147 of GodG2316 cast outG1544(PresActInd) devils,G1140 no doubtG686 the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 is comeG5348(AorActInd) uponG1909 you.G5209 [21] WhenG3752 a strong manG2478 armedG2528(PerfPasPtc) keepethG5442(PresActSubj) hisG833 palace,G1438 hisG846 goodsG5224(PresActPtc) areG2076(PresInd) inG1722 peace:G1515 [22] ButG1161 whenG1875 a strongerG2478 than heG846 shall come upon him,G1904(Aor2ActPtc) and overcomeG3528(AorActSubj) him,G846 he takethG142(PresActInd) from himG846 all his armourG3833 whereinG1909 he trusted,G3982(Plupf2ActInd) andG2532 dividethG1239(PresActInd) hisG846 spoils.G4661 [23] He that isG5607(PresPtc) notG3361 withG3326 meG1700 isG2076(PresInd) againstG2596 me:G1700 andG2532 he that gatherethG4863(PresActPtc) notG3361 withG3326 meG1700 scattereth.G4650(PresActInd) [24] WhenG3752 the uncleanG169 spiritG4151 is goneG1831(Aor2ActSubj) out ofG575 a man,G444 he walkethG1330(PresMidPasDepInd) throughG1223 dryG504 places,G5117 seekingG2212(PresActPtc) rest;G372 andG2532 findingG2147(PresActPtc) none,G3361 he saith,G3004(PresActInd) I will returnG5290(FutActInd) untoG1519 myG3450 houseG3624 whenceG3606 I came out.G1831(Aor2ActInd) [25] AndG2532 when he cometh,G2064(Aor2ActPtc) he findethG2147(PresActInd) [it] sweptG4563(PerfPasPtc) andG2532 garnished.G2885(PerfPasPtc) [26] ThenG5119 goeth he,G4198(PresMidPasDepInd) andG2532 takethG3880(PresActInd) [to him] sevenG2033 otherG2087 spiritsG4151 more wickedG4191 than himself;G1438 andG2532 they enter in,G1525(Aor2ActPtc) and dwellG2730(PresActInd) there:G1563 andG2532 the lastG2078 [state] of thatG1565 manG444 isG1096(PresMidPasDepInd) worseG5501 than the first.G4413 [27] AndG1161 it came to pass,G1096(Aor2MidDepInd) asG1722 heG846 spakeG3004(PresActInf) these things,G5023 a certainG5100 womanG1135 ofG1537 the companyG3793 lifted upG1869(AorActPtc) her voice,G5456 and saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto him,G846 BlessedG3107 [is] the wombG2836 that bareG941(AorActPtc) thee,G4571 andG2532 the papsG3149 whichG3739 thou hast [29] AndG1161 when the peopleG3793 were gathered thick together,G1865(PresPasPtc) he beganG756(AorMidDepInd) to say,G3004(PresActInf) ThisG3778 isG2076(PresInd) an evilG4190 generation:G1074 they
