[1] When Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities. [2] Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples [3] and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?” [4] Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: [5] the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. [6] Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.” [7] As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? [8] But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. [9] But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet. [10] For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ [11] Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he. [12] From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.§ [13] For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. [14] If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come. [15] He who has ears to hear, let him hear. [16] “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions [17] and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’ [18] For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ [19] The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.” [20] Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent. [21] “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. [22] But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. [23] You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades.§ For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today. [24] But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.” [25] At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. [26] Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. [27] All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him. [28] “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

[1] AndG2532 it came to pass,G1096(Aor2MidDepInd) whenG3753 JesusG2424 had made an endG5055(AorActInd) of commandingG1299(PresActPtc) hisG846 twelveG1427 disciples,G3101 he departedG3327(Aor2ActInd) Christ,G5547 he sentG3992(AorActPtc) twoG1417 of hisG846 disciples,G3101 [3] And saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto him,G846 ArtG1488(PresInd) thouG4771 he that should come,G2064(PresMidPasDepPtc) orG2228 do we lookG4328(PresActInd) for another?G2087 [4] JesusG2424 answeredG611(AorPasDepPtc) andG2532 saidG2036(Aor2ActInd) unto them,G846 GoG4198(AorPasDepPtc) and shewG518 JohnG2491 againG518(AorActImpr) those things whichG3739 ye do hearG191(PresActInd) andG2532 see:G991(PresActInd) [5] The blindG5185 receive their sight,G308(PresActInd) andG2532 the lameG5560 walk,G4043(PresActInd) the lepersG3015 AndG2532 blessedG3107 isG2076(PresInd) [he], whosoeverG3739 shallG4624 notG3362 be offendedG4624(AorPasSubj) inG1722 me.G1698 [7] AndG1161 asG5130 they departed,G4198(PresMidPasDepPtc) JesusG2424 beganG756(AorMidDepInd) to sayG3004(PresActInf) unto the multitudesG3793 concerningG4012 John,G2491 WhatG5101 went yeG1831(Aor2ActInd) out intoG1519 the wildernessG2048 to see?G2300(AorMidDepInf) A reedG2563 shakenG4531(PresPasPtc) withG5259 the wind?G417 [8] ButG235 whatG5101 went ye outG1831(Aor2ActInd) for to see?G1492(Aor2ActInf) A manG444 clothedG294(PerfPasPtc) inG1722 softG3120 raiment?G2440 behold,G2400(Aor2ActImpr) they that wearG5409(PresActPtc) softG3120 [clothing] areG1526(PresInd) inG1722 kings’G935 houses.G3624 [9] ButG235 whatG5101 went ye outG1831(Aor2ActInd) for to see?G1492(Aor2ActInf) A prophet?G4396 yea,G3483 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 andG2532 moreG4055 than a prophet.G4396 [10] ForG1063 thisG3778 isG2076(PresInd) [he], ofG4012 whomG3739 it is written,G1125(PerfPasInd) Behold,G2400(Aor2ActImpr) IG1473 sendG649(PresActInd) myG3450 messengerG32 beforeG4253 thyG4675 face,G4383 whichG3739 shall prepareG2680(FutActInd) thyG4675 wayG3598 beforeG1715 thee.G4675 [11] VerilyG281 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 AmongG1722 them that are bornG1084 of womenG1135 there hathG1453 notG3756 risenG1453(PerfPasInd) a greater thanG3187 JohnG2491 the Baptist:G910 notwithstandingG1161 he that is leastG3398 inG1722 the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 isG2076(PresInd) greater thanG3187 he.G846 [12] AndG1161 fromG575 the daysG2250 of JohnG2491 the BaptistG910 untilG2193 nowG737 the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 suffereth violence,G971(PresPasInd) andG2532 the violentG973 takeG726 itG846 by force.G726(PresActInd) [13] ForG1063 allG3956 the prophetsG4396 andG2532 the lawG3551 prophesiedG4395(AorActInd) untilG2193 John.G2491 [14] AndG2532 ifG1487 ye willG2309(PresActInd) receiveG1209(AorMidDepInf) [it], thisG846 isG2076(PresInd) Elias,G2243 whichG3588 was forG3195(PresActPtc) to come.G2064(PresMidPasDepInf) [15] He that hathG2192(PresActPtc) earsG3775 to hear,G191(PresActInf) let him hear.G191(PresActImpr) [16] ButG1161 whereuntoG5101 shall I likenG3666(FutActInd) thisG5026 generation?G1074 It isG2076(PresInd) likeG3664 unto childrenG3808 sittingG2521(PresMidPasDepPtc) inG1722 the markets,G58 andG2532 callingG4377(PresActPtc) unto theirG846 fellows,G2083 [17] AndG2532 saying,G3004(PresActPtc) We have pipedG832(AorActInd) unto you,G5213 andG2532 ye haveG3738 notG3756 danced;G3738(AorMidDepInd) we have mournedG2354(AorActInd) unto you,G5213 andG2532 ye haveG2875 notG3756 lamented.G2875(AorMidInd) [18] ForG1063 JohnG2491 cameG2064(Aor2ActInd) neitherG3383 eatingG2068(PresActPtc) norG3383 drinking,G4095(PresActPtc) andG2532 they say,G3004(PresActInd) He hathG2192(PresActInd) a devil.G1140 [19] The SonG5207 of manG444 cameG2064(Aor2ActInd) eatingG2068(PresActPtc) andG2532 drinking,G4095(PresActPtc) andG2532 they say,G3004(PresActInd) BeholdG2400(Aor2ActImpr) a manG444 gluttonous,G5314 andG2532 a winebibber,G3630 a friendG5384 of publicansG5057 andG2532 sinners.G268 ButG2532 wisdomG4678 is justifiedG1344(AorPasInd) ofG575 herG846 children.G5043 [20] ThenG5119 began heG756(AorMidDepInd) to upbraidG3679(PresActInf) the citiesG4172 whereinG1722 mostG4118 of hisG846 mighty worksG1411 were done,G1096(Aor2MidDepInd) becauseG3754 they repentedG3340(AorActInd) not:G3756 [21] WoeG3759 unto thee,G4671 Chorazin!G5523 woeG3759 unto thee,G4671 Bethsaida!G966 forG3754 ifG1487 the mighty works,G1411 whichG3588 were doneG1096(Aor2MidDepPtc) inG1722 you,G5213 had been doneG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) inG1722 TyreG5184 andG2532 Sidon,G4605 they would have repentedG3340(AorActInd) long agoG302 inG1722 sackclothG4526 andG2532 ashes.G4700 [22] ButG4133 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 It shall beG2071(FutInd) more tolerableG414 for TyreG5184 andG2532 SidonG4605 atG1722 the dayG2250 of judgment,G2920 thanG2228 for you.G5213 [23] AndG2532 thou,G4771 Capernaum,G2584 whichG3588 art exaltedG5312(AorPasPtc) untoG2193 heaven,G3772 shalt be brought downG2601(FutPasInd) toG2193 hell:G86 forG3754 ifG1487 the mighty works,G1411 whichG3588 have been doneG1096(Aor2MidDepPtc) inG1722 thee,G4671 had been doneG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) inG1722 Sodom,G4670 it would have remainedG302 untilG3360 this day.G4594 [24] ButG4133 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 ThatG3754 it shall beG2071(FutInd) more tolerableG414 for the landG1093 of SodomG4670 inG1722 the dayG2250 of judgment,G2920 thanG2228 for thee.G4671 [25] AtG1722 thatG1565 timeG2540 JesusG2424 answeredG611(AorPasDepPtc) and said,G2036(Aor2ActInd) I thankG1843(PresMidInd) thee,G4671 O Father,G3962 LordG2962 of heavenG3772 andG2532 earth,G1093 becauseG3754 thou hast hidG613(AorActInd) these thingsG5023 fromG575 the wiseG4680 andG2532 prudent,G4908 andG2532 hast revealedG601(AorActInd) themG846 unto babes.G3516 [26] Even so,G3483 Father:G3962 forG3754 soG3779 it seemedG1096(Aor2MidDepInd) goodG2107 in thyG4675 sight.G1715 [27] All thingsG3956 are deliveredG3860(AorPasInd) unto meG3427 ofG5259 myG3450 Father:G3962 andG2532 no manG3762 knowethG1921(PresActInd) the Son,G5207 butG1508 the Father;G3962 neitherG3761 knowethG1921(PresActInd) any manG5100 the Father,G3962 saveG1508 the Son,G5207 and [he]G2532 toG3739 whomsoeverG1437 the SonG5207 willG1014(PresMidPasDepSubj) revealG601(AorActInf) [him]. [28] ComeG1205(Impr) untoG4314 me,G3165 allG3956 [ye] that labourG2872(PresActPtc) andG2532 are heavy laden,G5412(PerfPasPtc) and IG2504 will giveG373 youG5209 rest.G373(FutActInd) [29] TakeG142(AorActImpr) myG3450 yokeG2218 uponG1909 you,G5209 andG2532 learnG3129(Aor2ActImpr) ofG575 me;G1700 forG3754 I amG1510(PresInd) meekG4235 andG2532 lowlyG5011 in heart:G2588 andG2532 ye shall findG2147(FutActInd) restG372 unto yourG5216 souls.G5590 [30] ForG1063 myG3450 yokeG2218 [is] easy,G5543 andG2532 myG3450 burdenG5413 isG2076(PresInd) light.G1645
