[1] Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him. [2] He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
[3] “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.†
[4] Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.†
[5] Blessed are the gentle,
for they shall inherit the earth.§
[6] Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be filled.
[7] Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
[8] Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.
[9] Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
[10] Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. [11] “Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. [12] Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you. [13] “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men. [14] You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. [15] Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. [16] Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. [17] “Don’t think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill. [18] For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter§ or one tiny pen stroke§ shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished. [19] Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. [20] For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. [21] “You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’† and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ [22] But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause‡ will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ⓘ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.§ [23] “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, [24] leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. [25] Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. [26] Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.§ [27] “You have heard that it was said,‡ ‘You shall not commit adultery;’† [28] but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. [29] If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.§ [30] If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.§ [31] “It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,’† [32] but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery. [33] “Again you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,’† [34] but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God; [35] nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. [36] Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black. [37] But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one. [38] “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’† [39] But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. [40] If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. [41] Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. [42] Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you. [43] “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor† and hate your enemy.’ⓘ [44] But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, [45] that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust. [46] For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same? [47] If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors‡ do the same? [48] Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

King James Version
[1] AndG1161 seeingG1492(Aor2ActPtc) the multitudes,G3793 he went upG305(Aor2ActInd) intoG1519 a mountain:G3735 andG2532 when heG846 was set,G2523(AorActPtc) hisG846 disciplesG3101 cameG4334(AorActInd) unto him:G846 [2] AndG2532 he openedG455(AorActPtc) hisG846 mouth,G4750 and taughtG1321(ImpfActInd) them,G846 saying,G3004(PresActPtc) [3] BlessedG3107 [are] the poorG4434 in spirit:G4151 forG3754 theirsG846 isG2076(PresInd) the kingdomG932 of heaven.G3772 [4] BlessedG3107 [are] they that mourn:G3996(PresActPtc) forG3754 theyG846 shall be comforted.G3870(FutPasInd) [5] BlessedG3107 [are] the meek:G4239 forG3754 theyG846 shall inheritG2816(FutActInd) the earth.G1093 [6] BlessedG3107 [are] they whichG3588 do hungerG3983(PresActPtc) andG2532 thirstG1372(PresActPtc) after righteousness:G1343 forG3754 theyG846 shall be filled.G5526(FutPasInd) [7] BlessedG3107 [are] the merciful:G1655 forG3754 theyG846 shall obtain mercy.G1653(FutPasInd) [8] BlessedG3107 [are] the pureG2513 in heart:G2588 forG3754 theyG846 shall seeG3700(FutMidDepInd) God.G2316 [9] BlessedG3107 [are] the peacemakers:G1518 forG3754 theyG846 shall be calledG2564(FutPasInd) the childrenG5207 of God.G2316 [10] BlessedG3107 [are] they which are persecutedG1377(PerfPasPtc) forG1752 righteousness’ sake:G1343 forG3754 theirsG846 isG2076(PresInd) the kingdomG932 of heaven.G3772 [11] BlessedG3107 are ye,G2075(PresInd) whenG3752 [men] shall revileG3679(AorActSubj) you,G5209 andG2532 persecuteG1377(AorActSubj) [you], andG2532 shall sayG2036(Aor2ActSubj) all mannerG3956 of evilG4190 againstG2596 youG5216 falsely,G5574(PresMidPasPtc) for my sake.G1752 [12] Rejoice,G5463(PresActImpr) andG2532 be exceeding glad:G21(PresMidPasDepImpr) forG3754 greatG4183 [is] yourG5216 rewardG3408 inG1722 heaven:G3772 forG1063 soG3779 persecuted theyG1377(AorActInd) the prophetsG4396 whichG3588 were beforeG4253 you.G5216 [13] YeG5210 areG2075(PresInd) the saltG217 of the earth:G1093 butG1161 ifG1437 the saltG217 have lost his savour,G3471(AorPasSubj) wherewithG1722 shall it be salted?G233(FutPasInd) it is thenceforthG2089 goodG2480(PresActInd) forG1519 nothing,G3762 butG1508 to be castG906(AorPasInf) out,G1854 andG2532 to be trodden under footG2662(PresPasInf) ofG5259 men.G444 [14] YeG5210 areG2075(PresInd) the lightG5457 of the world.G2889 A cityG4172 that is setG2749(PresMidPasDepPtc) onG1883 an hillG3735 cannotG3756 be hid.G2928(Aor2PasInf) [15] NeitherG3761 do men lightG2545(PresActInd) a candle,G3088 andG2532 putG5087(PresActInd) itG846 underG5259 a bushel,G3426 butG235 onG1909 a candlestick;G3087 andG2532 it giveth lightG2989(PresActInd) unto allG3956 that are inG1722 the house.G3614 [16] Let yourG5216 lightG5457 soG3779 shineG2989(AorActImpr) beforeG1715 men,G444 thatG3704 they may seeG1492(Aor2ActSubj) yourG5216 goodG2570 works,G2041 andG2532 glorifyG1392(AorActSubj) yourG5216 FatherG3962 whichG3588 is inG1722 heaven.G3772 [17] ThinkG3543(AorActSubj) notG3361 thatG3754 I am comeG2064(Aor2ActInd) to destroyG2647(AorActInf) the law,G3551 orG2228 the prophets:G4396 I amG2064 notG3756 comeG2064(Aor2ActInd) to destroy,G2647(AorActInf) butG235 to fulfil.G4137(AorActInf) [18] ForG1063 verilyG281 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 TillG2193 heavenG3772 andG2532 earthG1093 pass,G3928(Aor2ActSubj) oneG1520 jotG2503 orG2228 oneG3391 tittleG2762 shall in no wiseG3364 passG3928(Aor2ActSubj) fromG575 the law,G3551 tillG2193 allG3956 be fulfilled.G1096(Aor2MidDepSubj) [19] WhosoeverG3739 thereforeG3767 shall breakG3089(AorActSubj) oneG3391 of theseG5130 leastG1646 commandments,G1785 andG2532 shall teachG1321(AorActSubj) menG444 so,G3779 he shall be calledG2564(FutPasInd) the leastG1646 inG1722 the kingdomG932 of heaven:G3772 butG1161 whosoeverG3739 shall doG4160(AorActSubj) andG2532 teachG1321(AorActSubj) [them], the sameG3778 shall be calledG2564(FutPasInd) greatG3173 inG1722 the kingdomG932 of heaven.G3772 [20] ForG1063 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 ThatG3754 exceptG3362 yourG5216 righteousnessG1343 shall exceedG4052(AorActSubj) [the righteousness] of the scribesG1122 andG2532 Pharisees,G5330 ye shall in no caseG3364 enterG1525(Aor2ActSubj) intoG1519 the kingdomG932 of heaven.G3772 [21] Ye have heardG191(AorActInd) thatG3754 it was saidG4483(AorPasInd) by them of old time,G744 Thou shaltG5407 notG3756 kill;G5407(FutActInd) andG1161 whosoeverG3739 shall killG5407(AorActSubj) shall beG2071(FutInd) in dangerG1777 of the judgment:G2920 [22] ButG1161 IG1473 sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 ThatG3754 whosoeverG3956 is angryG3710(PresPasPtc) with hisG846 brotherG80 without a causeG1500 shall beG2071(FutInd) in dangerG1777 of the judgment:G2920 andG1161 whosoeverG3739 shall sayG2036(Aor2ActSubj) to hisG846 brother,G80 Raca,G4469 shall beG2071(FutInd) in dangerG1777 of the council:G4892 butG1161 whosoeverG3739 shall say,G2036(Aor2ActSubj) Thou fool,G3474 shall beG2071(FutInd) in dangerG1777 ofG1519 hellG1067 fire.G4442 [23] ThereforeG3767 ifG1437 thou bringG4374(PresActSubj) thyG4675 giftG1435 toG1909 the altar,G2379 and thereG2546 rememberestG3415(AorPasSubj) thatG3754 thyG4675 brotherG80 hathG2192(PresActInd) oughtG5100 againstG2596 thee;G4675 [24] LeaveG863(Aor2ActImpr) thereG1563 thyG4675 giftG1435 beforeG1715 the altar,G2379 andG2532 go thy way;G5217(PresActImpr) firstG4412 be reconciledG1259(Aor2PasImpr) to thyG4675 brother,G80 andG2532 thenG5119 comeG2064(Aor2ActPtc) and offerG4374(PresActImpr) thyG4675 gift.G1435 [25] AgreeG2468(PresImpr) with thineG4675 adversaryG476 quickly,G5035 whilesG2193 thou artG1488(PresInd) inG1722 the wayG3598 withG3326 him;G846 lest at any timeG3379 the adversaryG476 deliverG3860(Aor2ActSubj) theeG4571 to the judge,G2923 andG2532 the judgeG2923 deliverG3860(Aor2ActSubj) theeG4571 to the officer,G5257 andG2532 thou be castG906(FutPasInd) intoG1519 prison.G5438 [26] VerilyG281 I sayG3004(PresActInd) unto thee,G4671 Thou shaltG1831 by no meansG3364 comeG1831(Aor2ActSubj) out thence,G1564 tillG2193 thou hast paidG591(Aor2ActSubj) the uttermostG2078 farthing.G2835 [27] Ye have heardG191(AorActInd) thatG3754 it was saidG4483(AorPasInd) by them of old time,G744 Thou shaltG3431 notG3756 commit adultery:G3431(FutActInd) [28] ButG1161 IG1473 sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 ThatG3754 whosoeverG3956 lookethG991(PresActPtc) on a womanG1135 toG4314 lust afterG1937(AorActInf) herG846 hath committed adulteryG3431(AorActInd) with herG846 alreadyG2235 inG1722 hisG846 heart.G2588 [29] AndG1161 ifG1487 thyG4675 rightG1188 eyeG3788 offendG4624(PresActInd) thee,G4571 pluckG1807 itG846 out,G1807(Aor2ActImpr) andG2532 castG906(Aor2ActImpr) [it] fromG575 thee:G4675 forG1063 it is profitableG4851(PresActInd) for theeG4671 thatG2443 oneG1520 of thyG4675 membersG3196 should perish,G622(Aor2MidSubj) andG2532 notG3361 [that] thyG4675 wholeG3650 bodyG4983 should be castG906(AorPasSubj) intoG1519 hell.G1067 [30] AndG2532 ifG1487 thyG4675 rightG1188 handG5495 offendG4624(PresActInd) thee,G4571 cutG1581 itG846 off,G1581(AorActImpr) andG2532 castG906(Aor2ActImpr) [it] fromG575 thee:G4675 forG1063 it is profitableG4851(PresActInd) for theeG4671 thatG2443 oneG1520 of thyG4675 membersG3196 should perish,G622(Aor2MidSubj) andG2532 notG3361 [that] thyG4675 wholeG3650 bodyG4983 should be castG906(AorPasSubj) intoG1519 hell.G1067 [31] It hath been said,G4483(AorPasInd) WhosoeverG3739 shall put awayG630(AorActSubj) hisG846 wife,G1135 let him giveG1325(Aor2ActImpr) herG846 a writing of divorcement:G647 [32] ButG1161 IG1473 sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213 ThatG3754 whosoeverG3739 shall put awayG630(AorActSubj) hisG846 wife,G1135 savingG3924 for the causeG3056 of fornication,G4202 causethG4160(PresActInd) herG846 to commit adultery:G3429(PresMidPasDepInf) andG2532 whosoeverG3739 shall marryG1060(AorActSubj) her that is divorcedG630(PerfPasPtc) committeth adultery.G3429(PresMidPasDepInd) [33] Again,G3825 ye have heardG191(AorActInd) thatG3754 it hath been saidG4483(AorPasInd) by them of old time,G744 Thou shaltG1964 notG3756 forswear thyself,G1964(FutActInd) butG1161 shalt performG591(FutActInd) unto the LordG2962 thineG4675 oaths:G3727 [34] ButG1161 IG1473 sayG3004(PresActInd) unto you,G5213
