[1] Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, [2] “This month shall be to you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year to you. [3] Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month, they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household; [4] and if the household is too little for a lamb, then he and his neighbor next to his house shall take one according to the number of the souls. You shall make your count for the lamb according to what everyone can eat. [5] Your lamb shall be without defect, a male a year old. You shall take it from the sheep or from the goats. [6] You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at evening. [7] They shall take some of the blood, and put it on the two door posts and on the lintel, on the houses in which they shall eat it. [8] They shall eat the meat in that night, roasted with fire, with unleavened bread. They shall eat it with bitter herbs. [9] Don’t eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted with fire; with its head, its legs and its inner parts. [10] You shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; but that which remains of it until the morning you shall burn with fire. [11] This is how you shall eat it: with your belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste: it is Yahweh’s Passover. [12] For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and animal. I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt. I am Yahweh. [13] The blood shall be to you for a token on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. [14] This day shall be a memorial for you. You shall keep it as a feast to Yahweh. You shall keep it as a feast throughout your generations by an ordinance forever. [15] “ ‘Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; even the first day you shall put away yeast out of your houses, for whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. [16] In the first day there shall be to you a holy convocation, and in the seventh day a holy convocation; no kind of work shall be done in them, except that which every man must eat, only that may be done by you. [17] You shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this same day I have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations by an ordinance forever. [18] In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty first day of the month at evening. [19] There shall be no yeast found in your houses for seven days, for whoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a foreigner, or one who is born in the land. [20] You shall eat nothing leavened. In all your habitations you shall eat unleavened bread.’ ” [21] Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said to them, “Draw out, and take lambs according to your families, and kill the Passover. [22] You shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two door posts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. [23] For Yahweh will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel, and on the two door posts, Yahweh will pass over the door, and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to strike you. [24] You shall observe this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons forever. [25] It shall happen when you have come to the land which Yahweh will give you, as he has promised, that you shall keep this service. [26] It will happen, when your children ask you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ [27] that you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of Yahweh’s Passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians, and spared our houses.’ ”The people bowed their heads and worshiped. [28] The children of Israel went and did so; as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. [29] At midnight, Yahweh struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock. [30] Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead. [31] He called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel; and go, serve Yahweh, as you have said! [32] Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also!” [33] The Egyptians were urgent with the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, “We are all dead men.” [34] The people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading troughs being bound up in their clothes on their shoulders. [35] The children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing. [36] Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. They plundered the Egyptians. [37] The children of Israel traveled from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot who were men, in addition to children. [38] A mixed multitude went up also with them, with flocks, herds, and even very much livestock. [39] They baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought out of Egypt; for it wasn’t leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, and couldn’t wait, and they had not prepared any food for themselves. [40] Now the time that the children of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred thirty years. [41] At the end of four hundred thirty years, to the day, all of Yahweh’s armies went out from the land of Egypt. [42] It is a night to be much observed to Yahweh for bringing them out from the land of Egypt. This is that night of Yahweh, to be much observed by all the children of Israel throughout their generations. [43] Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover. No foreigner shall eat of it, [44] but every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then shall he eat of it. [45] A foreigner and a hired servant shall not eat of it. [46] It must be eaten in one house. You shall not carry any of the meat outside of the house. Do not break any of its bones. [47] All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. [48] When a stranger lives as a foreigner with you, and would like to keep the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it. He shall be as one who is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat of it. [49] One law shall be to him who is born at home, and to the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you.” [50] All the children of Israel did so. As Yahweh commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. [51] That same day, Yahweh brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

[17] And ye shall observeH8104(QalPerf) [the feast of] unleavened bread;H4682 for in this selfsameH6106 dayH3117 have I broughtH3318(HiphPerf) your armiesH6635 out of the landH776 of Egypt:H4714 therefore shall ye observeH8104(QalPerf) this dayH3117 in your generationsH1755 by an ordinanceH2708 for ever.H5769 [18] In the firstH7223 [month], on the fourteenthH6240 dayH3117 of the monthH2320 at even,H6153 ye shall eatH398(QalImpf) unleavened bread,H4682 until the oneH259 and twentiethH6242 dayH3117 of the monthH2320 at even.H6153 [19] SevenH7651 daysH3117 shall there be no leavenH7603 foundH4672(NiphImpf) in your houses:H1004 for whosoever eatethH398(QalActPtc) that which is leavened,H2556(HiphPtc) even that soulH5315 shall be cut offH3772(NiphPerf) from the congregationH5712 of Israel,H3478 whether he be a stranger,H1616 or bornH249 in the land.H776 [20] Ye shall eatH398(QalImpf) nothing leavened;H2556(HiphPtc) in all your habitationsH4186 shall ye eatH398(QalImpf) unleavened bread.H4682 [21] Then MosesH4872 calledH7121(QalImpf) for all the eldersH2205 of Israel,H3478 and saidH559(QalImpf) unto them, Draw outH4900(QalImpv) and takeH3947(QalImpv) you a lambH6629 according to your families,H4940 and killH7819(QalImpv) the passover.H6453 [22] And ye shall takeH3947(QalPerf) a bunchH92 of hyssop,H231 and dipH2881(QalPerf) [it] in the bloodH1818 that [is] in the bason,H5592 and strikeH5060(HiphPerf) the lintelH4947 and the twoH8147 side postsH4201 with the bloodH1818 that [is] in the bason;H5592 and noneH376 of you shall go outH3318(QalImpf) at the doorH6607 of his houseH1004 until the morning.H1242 [23] For the LordH3068 will pass throughH5674(QalPerf) to smiteH5062(QalInf) the Egyptians;H4714 and when he seethH7200(QalPerf) the bloodH1818 upon the lintel,H4947 and on the twoH8147 side posts,H4201 the LordH3068 will pass overH6452(QalPerf) the door,H6607 and will not sufferH5414(QalImpf) the destroyerH7843(HiphPtc) to comeH935(QalInf) in unto your housesH1004 to smiteH5062(QalInf) [you]. [24] And ye shall observeH8104(QalPerf) this thingH1697 for an ordinanceH2706 to thee and to thy sonsH1121 forH5704 ever.H5769 [25] And it shall come to pass, when ye be comeH935(QalImpf) to the landH776 which the LordH3068 will giveH5414(QalImpf) you, according as he hath promised,H1696(PielPerf) that ye shall keepH8104(QalPerf) this service.H5656 [26] And it shall come to pass, when your childrenH1121 shall sayH559(QalImpf) unto you, What mean ye by this service?H5656 [27] That ye shall say,H559(QalPerf) It [is] the sacrificeH2077 of the Lord’sH3068 passover,H6453 who passedH6452(QalPerf) over the housesH1004 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 in Egypt,H4714 when he smoteH5062(QalInf) the Egyptians,H4714 and deliveredH5337(HiphPerf) our houses.H1004 And the peopleH5971 bowed the headH6915(QalImpf) and worshipped.H7812(HithImpf) [28] And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 went away,H3212(QalImpf) and didH6213(QalImpf) as the LordH3068 had commandedH6680(PielPerf) MosesH4872 and Aaron,H175 so didH6213(QalPerf) they. [29] And it came to pass, that at midnightH2677 the LordH3068 smoteH5221(HiphPerf) all the firstbornH1060 in the landH776 of Egypt,H4714 from the firstbornH1060 of PharaohH6547 that satH3427(QalActPtc) on his throneH3678 unto the firstbornH1060 of the captiveH7628 that [was] in the dungeon;H1004 and all the firstbornH1060 of cattle.H929 [30] And PharaohH6547 rose upH6965(QalImpf) in the night,H3915 he, and all his servants,H5650 and all the Egyptians;H4714 and there was a greatH1419 cryH6818 in Egypt;H4714 for [there was] not a houseH1004 where [there was] not one dead.H4191(QalPtc) [31] And he calledH7121(QalImpf) for MosesH4872 and AaronH175 by night,H3915 and said,H559(QalImpf) Rise up,H6965(QalImpv) [and] get you forthH3318(QalImpv) from amongH8432 my people,H5971 both ye and the childrenH1121 of Israel;H3478 and go,H3212(QalImpv) serveH5647(QalImpv) the Lord,H3068 as ye have said.H1696(PielInf) [32] Also takeH3947(QalImpv) your flocksH6629 and your herds,H1241 as ye have said,H1696(PielPerf) and be gone;H3212(QalImpv) and blessH1288(PielPerf) me also. [33] And the EgyptiansH4714 were urgentH2388(QalImpf) upon the people,H5971 that they might sendH7971(PielInf) them out of the landH776 in haste;H4116(PielInf) for they said,H559(QalPerf) We [be] all deadH4191(QalPtc) [men]. [34] And the peopleH5971 tookH5375(QalImpf) their doughH1217 before it was leavened,H2556(QalImpf) their kneadingtroughsH4863 being bound upH6887(QalPasPtc) in their clothesH8071 upon their shoulders.H7926 [35] And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213(QalPerf) according to the wordH1697 of Moses;H4872 and they borrowedH7592(QalImpf) of the EgyptiansH4714 jewelsH3627 of silver,H3701 and jewelsH3627 of gold,H2091 and raiment:H8071 [36] And the LordH3068 gaveH5414(QalPerf) the peopleH5971 favourH2580 in the sightH5869 of the Egyptians,H4714 so that they lentH7592(HiphImpf) unto them [such things as they required]. And they spoiledH5337(PielImpf) the Egyptians.H4714 [37] And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 journeyedH5265(QalImpf) from RamesesH7486 to Succoth,H5523 about sixH8337 hundredH3967 thousandH505 on footH7273 [that were] men,H1397 besideH905 children.H2945 [38] And a mixedH6154 multitudeH7227 went upH5927(QalPerf) also with them; and flocks,H6629 and herds,H1241 [even] veryH3966 muchH3515 cattle.H4735 [39] And they bakedH644(QalImpf) unleavenedH4682 cakesH5692 of the doughH1217 which they brought forthH3318(HiphPerf) out of Egypt,H4714 for it was not leavened;H2556(QalPerf) because they were thrust outH1644(PualPerf) of Egypt,H4714 and couldH3201(QalPerf) not tarry,H4102(HippInf) neither had they preparedH6213(QalPerf) for themselves any victual.H6720 [40] Now the sojourningH4186 of the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 who dweltH3427(QalPerf) in Egypt,H4714 [was] fourH702 hundredH3967 and thirtyH7970 years.H8141 [41] And it came to pass at the endH7093 of the fourH702 hundredH3967 and thirtyH7970 years,H8141 even the selfsameH6106 dayH3117 it came to pass, that all the hostsH6635 of the LordH3068 went outH3318(QalPerf) from the landH776 of Egypt.H4714 [42] It [is] a nightH3915 to be much observedH8107 unto the LordH3068 for bringingH3318(HiphInf) them out from the landH776 of Egypt:H4714 this [is] that nightH3915 of the LordH3068 to be observedH8107 of all the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 in their generations.H1755 [43] And the LordH3068 saidH559(QalImpf) unto MosesH4872 and Aaron,H175 This [is] the ordinanceH2708 of the passover:H6453 There shall no strangerH1121 eatH398(QalImpf) thereof: [44] But every man’sH376 servantH5650 that is boughtH4736 for money,H3701 when thou hast circumcisedH4135(QalPerf) him, then shall he eatH398(QalImpf) thereof. [45] A foreignerH8453 and an hired servantH7916 shall not eatH398(QalImpf) thereof. [46] In oneH259 houseH1004 shall it be eaten;H398(NiphImpf) thou shalt not carry forthH3318(HiphImpf) ought of the fleshH1320 abroadH2351 out of the house;H1004 neither shall ye breakH7665(QalImpf) a boneH6106 thereof. [47] All the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478 shall keepH6213(QalImpf) it. [48] And when a strangerH1616 shall sojournH1481(QalImpf) with thee, and will keepH6213(QalPerf) the passoverH6453 to the Lord,H3068 let all his malesH2145 be circumcised,H4135(NiphInf) and then let him come nearH7126(QalImpf) and keepH6213(QalInf) it; and he shall be as one that is bornH249 in the land:H776 for no uncircumcised personH6189 shall eatH398(QalImpf) thereof. [49] OneH259 lawH8451 shall be to him that is homeborn,H249 and unto the strangerH1616 that sojournethH1481(QalActPtc) amongH8432 you. [50] Thus didH6213(QalImpf) all the childrenH1121 of Israel;H3478 as the LordH3068 commandedH6680(PielPerf) MosesH4872 and Aaron,H175 so didH6213(QalPerf) they. [51] And it came to pass the selfsameH6106 day,H3117 [that] the LordH3068 did bringH3318(HiphPerf) the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 by their armies.H6635
