[1] God§ spoke all these words, saying, [2] “I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. [3] “You shall have no other gods before me. [4] “You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: [5] you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, [6] and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. [7] “You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God,§ for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name. [8] “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] You shall labor six days, and do all your work, [10] but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; [11] for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy. [12] “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. [13] “You shall not murder. [14] “You shall not commit adultery. [15] “You shall not steal. [16] “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. [17] “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.” [18] All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance. [19] They said to Moses, “Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.” [20] Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.” [21] The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was. [22] Yahweh said to Moses, “This is what you shall tell the children of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. [23] You shall most certainly not make gods of silver or gods of gold for yourselves to be alongside me. [24] You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you. [25] If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it. [26] You shall not go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.’

[1] And God H430 spake H1696 (PielImpf) all these words, H1697 saying, H559 (QalInf) [2] I am the Lord H3068 thy God, H430 which have brought H3318 (HiphPerf) thee out of the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 out of the house H1004 of bondage. H5650§ [3] Thou shalt have no other H312 gods H430 before me. H6440 [4] Thou shalt not make H6213 (QalImpf) unto thee any graven image, H6459 or any likeness H8544 of any thing that H834 is in heaven H8064 above, H4605 or that is in the earth H776 beneath, or that is in the water H4325 under the earth: H776 [5] thou shalt not bow down H7812 (HithImpf) thyself to them, nor serve H5647 (HophImpf) them: for I the Lord H3068 thy God H430 am a jealous H7067 God, H410 visiting H6485 (QalActPtc) the iniquity H5771 of the fathers H1 upon the children H1121 unto the third H8029 and fourth H7256 generation of them that hate H8130 (QalActPtc) me; [6] and shewing H6213 (QalActPtc) mercy H2617 unto thousands H505 of them that love H157 (QalActPtc) me, and keep H8104 (QalActPtc) my commandments. H4687 [7] Thou shalt not take H5375 (QalImpf) the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 thy God H430 in vain; H7723 for the Lord H3068 will not hold him guiltless H5352 (PielImpf) that taketh H5375 (QalImpf) his name H8034 in vain. H7723 [8] Remember H2142 (QalInf) the sabbath H7676 day, H3117 to keep it holy. H6942 (PielInf) [9] Six H8337 days H3117 shalt thou labour, H5647 (QalImpf) and do H6213 (QalPerf) all thy work: H4399 [10] but the seventh H7637 day H3117 is the sabbath H7676 of the Lord H3068 thy God: H430 in it thou shalt not do H6213 (QalImpf) any work, H4399 thou, nor thy son, H1121 nor thy daughter, H1323 thy manservant, H5650 nor thy maidservant, H519 nor thy cattle, H929 nor thy stranger H1616 that is within thy gates: H8179 [11] for in six H8337 days H3117 the Lord H3068 made H6213 (QalPerf) heaven H8064 and earth, H776 the sea, H3220 and all that in them is, and rested H5117 (QalImpf) the seventh H7637 day: H3117 wherefore the Lord H3068 blessed H1288 (PielPerf) the sabbath H7676 day, H3117 and hallowed H6942 (PielImpf) it. [12] Honour H3513 (PielImpv) thy father H1 and thy mother: H517 that thy days H3117 may be long H748 (HiphImpf) upon the land H127 which the Lord H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 (QalActPtc) thee. [13] Thou shalt not kill. H7523 (QalImpf) [14] Thou shalt not commit adultery. H5003 (QalImpf) [15] Thou shalt not steal. H7453 [18] And all the people H5971 saw H7200 (QalActPtc) the thunderings, H6963 and the lightnings, H3940 and the noise H6963 of the trumpet, H7782 and the mountain H2022 smoking: H6226 and when the people H5971 saw H7200 (QalImpf) it, they removed, H5128 (QalImpf) and stood H5975 (QalImpf) afar off. H7350 [19] And they said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Speak H1696 (PielImpv) thou with us, and we will hear: H8085 (QalImpf) but let not God H430 speak H1696 (PielImpf) with us, lest we die. H4191 (QalImpf) [20] And Moses H4872 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the people, H5971 Fear H3372 (QalImpf) not: for God H430 is come H935 (QalPerf) to H5668 prove H5254 (PielInf) you, and that his fear H3374 may be before your faces, H6440 that ye sin H2398 (QalImpf) not. [21] And the people H5971 stood H5975 (QalImpf) afar off, H7350 and Moses H4872 drew near H5066 (NiphPerf) unto the thick darkness H6205 where God H430 was.

[22] And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Thus thou shalt say H559 (QalImpf) unto the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 Ye have seen H7200 (QalPerf) that I have talked H1696 (PielPerf) with you from heaven. H8064
[23] Ye shall not make H6213 (QalImpf) with me gods H430 of silver, H3701 neither shall ye make H6213 (QalImpf) unto you gods H430 of gold. H2091 [24] An altar H4196 of earth H127 thou shalt make H6213 (QalImpf) unto me, and shalt sacrifice H2076 (QalPerf) thereon thy burnt offerings, H5930 and thy peace offerings, H8002 thy sheep, H6629 and thine oxen: H1241 in all places H4725 where I record H2142 (HiphImpf) my name H8034 I will come H935 (QalImpf) unto thee, and I will bless H1288 (PielPerf) thee. [25] And if thou wilt make H6213 (QalImpf) me an altar H4196 of stone, H68 thou shalt not build H1129 (QalImpf) it of hewn stone: H1496 for if thou lift up H5130 (HiphPerf) thy tool H2719 upon it, thou hast polluted H2490 (PielImpf) it. [26] Neither shalt thou go up H5927 (QalImpf) by steps H4609 unto mine altar, H4196 that thy nakedness H6172 be not discovered H1540 (NiphImpf) thereon.
