[1] Oh that you would tear the heavens,
that you would come down,
that the mountains might quake at your presence—
[2] as when fire kindles the brushwood,
and the fire causes the water to boil.
Make your name known to your adversaries,
that the nations may tremble at your presence!
[3] When you did awesome things which we didn’t look for,
you came down, and the mountains quaked at your presence.
[4] For from of old men have not heard,
nor perceived by the ear,
nor has the eye seen a God besides you,
who works for him who waits for him.
[5] You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness,
those who remember you in your ways.
Behold, you were angry, and we sinned.
We have been in sin for a long time.
Shall we be saved?
[6] For we have all become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment.
We all fade like a leaf;
and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
[7] There is no one who calls on your name,
who stirs himself up to take hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us,
and have consumed us by means of our iniquities. [8] But now, Yahweh, you are our Father.
We are the clay and you our potter.
We all are the work of your hand.
[9] Don’t be furious, Yahweh.
Don’t remember iniquity forever.
Look and see, we beg you,
we are all your people.
[10] Your holy cities have become a wilderness.
Zion has become a wilderness,
Jerusalem a desolation.
[11] Our holy and our beautiful house where our fathers praised you
is burned with fire.
All our pleasant places are laid waste.
[12] Will you hold yourself back for these things, Yahweh?
Will you keep silent and punish us very severely?
that you would come down,
that the mountains might quake at your presence—
[2] as when fire kindles the brushwood,
and the fire causes the water to boil.
Make your name known to your adversaries,
that the nations may tremble at your presence!

[5] Thou meetestH6293(QalPerf) him that rejoicethH7797(QalPtc) and workethH6213(QalActPtc) righteousness,H6664 [those that] rememberH2142(QalImpf) thee in thy ways:H1870 behold, thou art wroth;H7107(QalPerf) for we have sinned:H2398(QalImpf) in those is continuance,H5769 and we shall be saved.H3467(NiphImpf) [6] But we are all as an uncleanH2931 [thing], and all our righteousnessesH6666 [are] as filthyH5708 rags;H899 and we all do fadeH5034(QalImpf/Ketiv) as a leaf;H5929 and our iniquities,H5771 like the wind,H7307 have taken us away.H5375(QalImpf) [7] And [there is] none that callethH7121(QalActPtc) upon thy name,H8034 that stirreth upH5782(HiplPtc) himself to take holdH2388(HiphInf) of thee: for thou hast hidH5641(HiphPerf) thy faceH6440 from us, and hast consumedH4127(QalImpf) us, becauseH3027 of our iniquities.H5771 [8] But now, O Lord,H3068 thou [art] our father;H1 we [are] the clay,H2563 and thou our potter;H3335(QalActPtc) and we all [are] the workH4639 of thy hand.H3027 [9] Be not wrothH7107(QalImpf) very sore,H3966 O Lord,H3068 neither rememberH2142(QalImpf) iniquityH5771 for ever:H5703 behold, see,H5027(HiphImpv) we beseech thee, we [are] all thy people.H5971 [10] Thy holyH6944 citiesH5892 are a wilderness,H4057 ZionH6726 is a wilderness,H4057 JerusalemH3389 a desolation.H8077 [11] Our holyH6944 and our beautifulH8597 house,H1004 where our fathersH1 praisedH1984(PielPerf) thee, is burned upH8316 with fire:H784 and all our pleasant thingsH4261 are laid waste.H2723 [12] Wilt thou refrainH662(HithImpf) thyself for these [things], O Lord?H3068 wilt thou hold thy peace,H2814(QalImpf) and afflictH6031(PielImpf) us very sore?H3966
