[1] Yet listen now, Jacob my servant,
and Israel, whom I have chosen.
[2] This is what Yahweh who made you,
and formed you from the womb,
who will help you says:
“Don’t be afraid, Jacob my servant;
and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
[3] For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
and streams on the dry ground.
I will pour my Spirit on your descendants,
and my blessing on your offspring;
[4] and they will spring up among the grass,
as willows by the watercourses.
[5] One will say, ‘I am Yahweh’s.’
Another will be called by the name of Jacob;
and another will write with his hand ‘to Yahweh,’
and honor the name of Israel.” [6] This is what Yahweh, the King of Israel,
and his Redeemer, Yahweh of Armies, says:
“I am the first, and I am the last;
and besides me there is no God.
[7] Who is like me?
Who will call,
and will declare it,
and set it in order for me,
since I established the ancient people?
Let them declare the things that are coming,
and that will happen.
[8] Don’t fear,
neither be afraid.
Haven’t I declared it to you long ago,
and shown it?
You are my witnesses.
Is there a God besides me?
Indeed, there is not.
I don’t know any other Rock.” [9] Everyone who makes a carved image is vain.
The things that they delight in will not profit.
Their own witnesses don’t see, nor know, that they may be disappointed.
[10] Who has fashioned a god,
or molds an image that is profitable for nothing?
[11] Behold, all his fellows will be disappointed;
and the workmen are mere men.
Let them all be gathered together.
Let them stand up.
They will fear.
They will be put to shame together. [12] The blacksmith takes an ax,
works in the coals,
fashions it with hammers,
and works it with his strong arm.
He is hungry,
and his strength fails;
he drinks no water,
and is faint.
[13] The carpenter stretches out a line.
He marks it out with a pencil.
He shapes it with planes.
He marks it out with compasses,
and shapes it like the figure of a man,
with the beauty of a man,
to reside in a house.
[14] He cuts down cedars for himself,
and takes the cypress and the oak,
and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest.
He plants a cypress tree,
and the rain nourishes it.
[15] Then it will be for a man to burn;
and he takes some of it and warms himself.
Yes, he burns it and bakes bread.
Yes, he makes a god and worships it;
he makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
[16] He burns part of it in the fire.
With part of it, he eats meat.
He roasts a roast and is satisfied.
Yes, he warms himself
and says, “Aha! I am warm. I have seen the fire.”
[17] The rest of it he makes into a god,
even his engraved image.
He bows down to it and worships,
and prays to it, and says, “Deliver me, for you are my god!” [18] They don’t know, neither do they consider,
for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see,
and their hearts, that they can’t understand.
[19] No one thinks,
neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say,
“I have burned part of it in the fire.
Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals.
I have roasted meat and eaten it.
Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination?
Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?”
[20] He feeds on ashes.
A deceived heart has turned him aside;
and he can’t deliver his soul,
nor say, “Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?” [21] Remember these things, Jacob and Israel,
for you are my servant.
I have formed you.
You are my servant.
Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
[22] I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions,
and, as a cloud, your sins.
Return to me, for I have redeemed you. [23] Sing, you heavens, for Yahweh has done it!
Shout, you lower parts of the earth!
Break out into singing, you mountains, O forest, all of your trees,
for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob,
and will glorify himself in Israel. [24] Yahweh, your Redeemer,
and he who formed you from the womb says:
“I am Yahweh, who makes all things;
who alone stretches out the heavens;
who spreads out the earth by myself;
[25] who frustrates the signs of the liars,
and makes diviners mad;
who turns wise men backward,
and makes their knowledge foolish;
[26] who confirms the word of his servant,
and performs the counsel of his messengers;
who says of Jerusalem, ‘She will be inhabited;’
and of the cities of Judah, ‘They will be built,’
and ‘I will raise up its waste places;’
[27] who says to the deep, ‘Be dry,’
and ‘I will dry up your rivers,’
[28] who says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure,’
even saying of Jerusalem, ‘She will be built;’
and of the temple, ‘Your foundation will be laid.’ ”
and Israel, whom I have chosen.

King James Version
[1] Yet now hear,H8085(QalImpv) O JacobH3290 my servant;H5650 and Israel,H3478 whom I have chosen:H977(QalPerf) [2] Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the LordH3068 that madeH6213(QalActPtc) thee, and formedH3335(QalActPtc) thee from the womb,H990 [which] will helpH5826(QalImpf) thee; FearH3372(QalImpf) not, O Jacob,H3290 my servant;H5650 and thou, Jesurun,H3484 whom I have chosen.H977(QalPerf) [3] For I will pourH3332(QalImpf) waterH4325 upon him that is thirsty,H6771 and floodsH5140(QalActPtc) upon the dry ground:H3004 I will pourH3332(QalImpf) my spiritH7307 upon thy seed,H2233 and my blessingH1293 upon thine offspring:H6631 [4] And they shall spring upH6779(QalPerf) [as] amongH996 the grass,H2682 as willowsH6155 by the waterH4325 courses.H2988 [5] One shall say,H559(QalImpf) I [am] the Lord’s;H3068 and another shall callH7121(QalImpf) [himself] by the nameH8034 of Jacob;H3290 and another shall subscribeH3789(QalImpf) [with] his handH3027 unto the Lord,H3068 and surnameH3655(PielImpf) [himself] by the nameH8034 of Israel.H3478 [6] Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the LordH3068 the KingH4428 of Israel,H3478 and his redeemerH1350(QalActPtc) the LordH3068 of hosts;H6635 I [am] the first,H7223 and I [am] the last;H314 and besideH1107 me [there is] no God.H430 [7] And who, as I, shall call,H7121(QalImpf) and shall declareH5046(HiphImpf) it, and set it in orderH6186(QalImpf) for me, since I appointedH7760(QalInf) the ancientH5769 people?H5971 and the things that are coming,H857(QalActPtc) and shall come,H935(QalImpf) let them shewH5046(HiphImpf) unto them. [8] FearH6342(QalImpf) ye not, neither be afraid:H7297(QalImpf/Ketiv) have not I toldH8085(HiphPerf) thee from that time,H227 and have declaredH5046(HiphPerf) [it]? ye [are] even my witnesses.H5707 Is thereH3426 a GodH433 besideH1107 me? yea, [there is] no God;H6697 I knowH3045(QalPerf) not [any]. [9] They that makeH3335(QalActPtc) a graven imageH6459 [are] all of them vanity;H8414 and their delectable thingsH2530(QalPasPtc) shall not profit;H3276(HiphImpf) and they [are] their own witnesses;H5707 they seeH7200(QalImpf) not, nor know;H3045(QalImpf) that they may be ashamed.H954(QalImpf) [10] Who hath formedH3335(QalPerf) a god,H410 or moltenH5258(QalPerf) a graven imageH6459 [that] is profitableH3276(HiphInf) for nothing?H1115 [11] Behold, all his fellowsH2270 shall be ashamed:H954(QalImpf) and the workmen,H2796 they [are] of men:H120 let them all be gathered together,H6908(HithImpf) let them stand up;H5975(QalImpf) [yet] they shall fear,H6342(QalImpf) [and] they shall be ashamedH954(QalImpf) together.H3162 [12] The smithH1270 with the tongsH4621 both workethH6466(QalPerf) in the coals,H6352 and fashionethH3335(QalImpf) it with hammers,H4717 and workethH6466(QalImpf) it with the strengthH3581 of his arms:H2220 yea, he is hungry,H7457 and his strengthH3581 faileth:H369 he drinkethH8354(QalPerf) no water,H4325 and is faint.H3286(QalImpf) [13] The carpenterH2796 stretcheth outH5186(QalPerf) [his] rule;H6957 he marketh it outH8388(PielImpf) with a line;H8279 he fittethH6213(QalImpf) it with planes,H4741 and he marketh it outH8388(PielImpf) with the compass,H4230 and makethH6213(QalImpf) it after the figureH8403 of a man,H376 according to the beautyH8597 of a man;H120 that it may remainH3427(QalInf) in the house.H1004 [14] He heweth him downH3772(QalInf) cedars,H730 and takethH3947(QalImpf) the cypressH8645 and the oak,H437 which he strengthenethH553(PielImpf) for himself among the treesH6086 of the forest:H3293 he plantethH5193(QalPerf) an ash,H766 and the rainH1653 doth nourishH1431(PielImpf) [it]. [15] Then shall it be for a manH120 to burn:H1197(PielInf) for he will takeH3947(QalImpf) thereof, and warmH2552(QalImpf) himself; yea, he kindlethH5400(HiphImpf) [it], and bakethH644(QalPerf) bread;H3899 yea, he makethH6466(QalImpf) a god,H410 and worshippethH7812(HithImpf) [it]; he makethH6213(QalPerf) it a graven image,H6459 and falleth downH5456(QalImpf) thereto. [16] He burnethH8313(QalPerf) partH2677 thereof inH1119 the fire;H784 with partH2677 thereof he eatethH398(QalImpf) flesh;H1320 he roastethH6740(QalImpf) roast,H6748 and is satisfied:H7646(QalImpf) yea, he warmethH2552(QalImpf) [himself], and saith,H559(QalImpf) Aha,H1889 I am warm,H2552(QalPerf) I have seenH7200(QalPerf) the fire:H217 [17] And the residueH7611 thereof he makethH6213(QalPerf) a god,H410 [even] his graven image:H6459 he falleth downH5456(QalImpf) unto it, and worshippethH7812(HithImpf) [it], and prayethH6419(HithImpf) unto it, and saith,H559(QalImpf) DeliverH5337(HiphImpv) me; for thou [art] my god.H410 [18] They have not knownH3045(QalPerf) nor understood:H995(QalImpf) for he hath shutH2902(QalPerf) their eyes,H5869 that they cannot see;H7200(QalInf) [and] their hearts,H3826 that they cannot understand.H7919(HiphInf) [19] And none considerethH7725(HiphImpf) in his heart,H3820 neither [is there] knowledgeH1847 nor understandingH8394 to say,H559(QalInf) I have burnedH8313(QalPerf) partH2677 of it inH1119 the fire;H784 yea, also I have bakedH644(QalPerf) breadH3899 upon the coalsH1513 thereof; I have roastedH6740(QalImpf) flesh,H1320 and eatenH398(QalImpf) [it]: and shall I makeH6213(QalImpf) the residueH3499 thereof an abomination?H8441 shall I fall downH5456(QalImpf) to the stockH944 of a tree?H6086 [20] He feedethH7462(QalActPtc) on ashes:H665 a deceivedH2048(PualPerf) heartH3820 hath turned him aside,H5186(HiphPerf) that he cannot deliverH5337(HiphImpf) his soul,H5315 nor say,H559(QalImpf) [Is there] not a lieH8267 in my right hand?H3225 [21] RememberH2142(QalImpv) these, O JacobH3290 and Israel;H3478 for thou [art] my servant:H5650 I have formedH3335(QalPerf) thee; thou [art] my servant:H5650 O Israel,H3478 thou shalt not be forgottenH5382(NiphImpf) of me. [22] I have blotted out,H4229(QalPerf) as a thick cloud,H5645 thy transgressions,H6588 and, as a cloud,H6051 thy sins:H2403 returnH7725(QalImpv) unto me; for I have redeemedH1350(QalPerf) thee. [23] Sing,H7442(QalImpv) O ye heavens;H8064 for the LordH3068 hath doneH6213(QalPerf) [it]: shout,H7321(HiphImpv) ye lower partsH8482 of the earth:H776 break forthH6476(QalImpv) into singing,H7440 ye mountains,H2022 O forest,H3293 and every treeH6086 therein: for the LordH3068 hath redeemedH1350(QalPerf) Jacob,H3290 and glorifiedH6286(HithImpf) himself in Israel.H3478 [24] Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 thy redeemer,H1350(QalActPtc) and he that formedH3335(QalActPtc) thee from the womb,H990 I [am] the LordH3068 that makethH6213(QalActPtc) all [things]; that stretcheth forthH5186(QalActPtc) the heavensH8064 alone; that spreadeth abroadH7554(QalActPtc) the earthH776 by myself; [25] That frustratethH6565(HiphPtc) the tokensH226 of the liars,H907 and maketh divinersH7080(QalActPtc) mad;H1984(PoelImpf) that turnethH7725(HiphPtc) wiseH2450 [men] backward,H268 and maketh their knowledgeH1847 foolish;H5528(PielImpf) [26] That confirmethH6965(HiphPtc) the wordH1697 of his servant,H5650 and performethH7999(HiphImpf) the counselH6098 of his messengers;H4397 that saithH559(QalActPtc) to Jerusalem,H3389 Thou shalt be inhabited;H3427(HophImpf) and to the citiesH5892 of Judah,H3063 Ye shall be built,H1129(NiphImpf) and I will raise upH6965(PoleImpf) the decayed placesH2723 thereof: [27] That saithH559(QalActPtc) to the deep,H6683 Be dry,H2717(QalImpv) and I will dry upH3001(HiphImpf) thy rivers:H5104 [28] That saithH559(QalActPtc) of Cyrus,H3566 [He is] my shepherd,H7462(QalActPtc) and shall performH7999(HiphImpf) all my pleasure:H2656 even sayingH559(QalInf) to Jerusalem,H3389 Thou shalt be built;H1129(NiphImpf) and to the temple,H1964 Thy foundation shall be laid.H3245(NiphImpf)
