[1] Who is this who comes from Edom,
with dyed garments from Bozrah?
Who is this who is glorious in his clothing,
marching in the greatness of his strength?
“It is I who speak in righteousness,
mighty to save.”
[2] Why is your clothing red,
and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat? [3] “I have trodden the wine press alone.
Of the peoples, no one was with me.
Yes, I trod them in my anger
and trampled them in my wrath.
Their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments,
and I have stained all my clothing.
[4] For the day of vengeance was in my heart,
and the year of my redeemed has come.
[5] I looked, and there was no one to help;
and I wondered that there was no one to uphold.
Therefore my own arm brought salvation to me.
My own wrath upheld me.
[6] I trod down the peoples in my anger
and made them drunk in my wrath.
I poured their lifeblood out on the earth.” [7] I will tell of the loving kindnesses of Yahweh
and the praises of Yahweh,
according to all that Yahweh has given to us,
and the great goodness toward the house of Israel,
which he has given to them according to his mercies,
and according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.
[8] For he said, “Surely, they are my people,
children who will not deal falsely;”
so he became their Savior.
[9] In all their affliction he was afflicted,
and the angel of his presence saved them.
In his love and in his pity he redeemed them.
He bore them,
and carried them all the days of old. [10] But they rebelled
and grieved his Holy Spirit.
Therefore he turned and became their enemy,
and he himself fought against them. [11] Then he remembered the days of old,
Moses and his people, saying,
“Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among them?”
[12] Who caused his glorious arm to be at Moses’ right hand?
Who divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name?
[13] Who led them through the depths,
like a horse in the wilderness,
so that they didn’t stumble?
[14] As the livestock that go down into the valley,
Yahweh’s Spirit caused them to rest.
So you led your people to make yourself a glorious name. [15] Look down from heaven,
and see from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory.
Where are your zeal and your mighty acts?
The yearning of your heart and your compassion is restrained toward me.
[16] For you are our Father,
though Abraham doesn’t know us,
and Israel does not acknowledge us.
You, Yahweh, are our Father.
Our Redeemer from everlasting is your name.
[17] O Yahweh, why do you make us wander from your ways,
and harden our heart from your fear?
Return for your servants’ sake,
the tribes of your inheritance.
[18] Your holy people possessed it but a little while.
Our adversaries have trodden down your sanctuary.
[19] We have become like those over whom you never ruled,
like those who were not called by your name.

[6] And I will tread downH947(QalImpf) the peopleH5971 in mine anger,H639 and make them drunkH7937(PielImpf) in my fury,H2534 and I will bring downH3381(HiphImpf) their strengthH5332 to the earth.H776 [7] I will mentionH2142(HiphImpf) the lovingkindnessesH2617 of the Lord,H3068 [and] the praisesH8416 of the Lord,H3068 according to all that the LordH3068 hath bestowedH1580(QalPerf) on us, and the greatH7227 goodnessH2898 toward the houseH1004 of Israel,H3478 which he hath bestowedH1580(QalPerf) on them according to his mercies,H7356 and according to the multitudeH7230 of his lovingkindnesses.H2617 [8] For he said,H559(QalImpf) Surely they [are] my people,H5971 childrenH1121 [that] will not lie:H8266(PielImpf) so he was their Saviour.H3467(HiphPtc) [9] In all their afflictionH6869 he was afflicted,H6862 and the angelH4397 of his presenceH6440 savedH3467(HiphPerf) them: in his loveH160 and in his pityH2551 he redeemedH1350(QalPerf) them; and he bareH5190(PielImpf) them, and carriedH5375(PielImpf) them all the daysH3117 of old.H5769 [10] But they rebelled,H4784(QalPerf) and vexedH6087(PielPerf) his holyH6944 Spirit:H7307 therefore he was turnedH2015(NiphImpf) to be their enemy,H341(QalActPtc) [and] he foughtH3898(NiphPerf) against them. [11] Then he rememberedH2142(QalImpf) the daysH3117 of old,H5769 Moses,H4872 [and] his people,H5971 [saying], Where [is] he that brought them upH5927(HiphPtc) out of the seaH3220 with the shepherdH7462(QalActPtc) of his flock?H6629 where [is] he that putH7760(QalActPtc) his holyH6944 SpiritH7307 withinH7130 him? [12] That ledH3212(HiphPtc) [them] by the right handH3225 of MosesH4872 with his gloriousH8597 arm,H2220 dividingH1234(QalActPtc) the waterH4325 beforeH6440 them, to makeH6213(QalInf) himself an everlastingH5769 name?H8034 [13] That ledH3212(HiphPtc) them through the deep,H8415 as an horseH5483 in the wilderness,H4057 [that] they should not stumble?H3782(NiphImpf) [14] As a beastH929 goeth downH3381(QalImpf) into the valley,H1237 the SpiritH7307 of the LordH3068 caused him to rest:H5117(HiphImpf) so didst thou leadH5090(PielPerf) thy people,H5971 to makeH6213(QalInf) thyself a gloriousH8597 name.H8034 [15] Look downH5027(HiphImpv) from heaven,H8064 and beholdH7200(QalImpv) from the habitationH2073 of thy holinessH6944 and of thy glory:H8597 where [is] thy zealH7068 and thy strength,H1369 the soundingH1995 of thy bowelsH4578 and of thy merciesH7356 toward me? are they restrained?H662(HithPerf) [16] DoubtlessH3588 thou [art] our father,H1 though AbrahamH85 be ignorantH3808 of us, and IsraelH3478 acknowledgeH5234(HiphImpf) us not: thou, O Lord,H3068 [art] our father,H1 our redeemer;H1350(QalActPtc) thy nameH8034 [is] from everlasting.H5769 [17] O Lord,H3068 why hast thou made us to errH8582(HiphImpf) from thy ways,H1870 [and] hardenedH7188(HiphImpf) our heartH3820 from thy fear?H3374 ReturnH7725(QalImpv) for thy servants’H5650 sake, the tribesH7626 of thine inheritance.H5159 [18] The peopleH5971 of thy holinessH6944 have possessedH3423(QalPerf) [it] but a little while:H4705 our adversariesH6862 have trodden downH947(PolePerf) thy sanctuary.H4720 [19] We are [thine]: thou neverH5769 barest ruleH4910(QalPerf) over them; they were not calledH7121(NiphPerf) by thy name.H8034
