[1] “Keep silent before me, islands,
and let the peoples renew their strength.
Let them come near,
then let them speak.
Let’s meet together for judgment.
[2] Who has raised up one from the east?
Who called him to his feet in righteousness?
He hands over nations to him
and makes him rule over kings.
He gives them like the dust to his sword,
like the driven stubble to his bow.
[3] He pursues them
and passes by safely,
even by a way that he had not gone with his feet.
[4] Who has worked and done it,
calling the generations from the beginning?
I, Yahweh, the first, and with the last, I am he.” [5] The islands have seen, and fear.
The ends of the earth tremble.
They approach, and come.
[6] Everyone helps his neighbor.
They say to their brothers, “Be strong!”
[7] So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith.
He who smooths with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil,
saying of the soldering, “It is good;”
and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter. [8] “But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen,
the offspring of Abraham my friend,
[9] you whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth,
and called from its corners,
and said to you, ‘You are my servant. I have chosen you and have not cast you away.’
[10] Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you.
Yes, I will help you.
Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
[11] Behold, all those who are incensed against you will be disappointed and confounded.
Those who strive with you will be like nothing, and shall perish.
[12] You will seek them, and won’t find them,
even those who contend with you.
Those who war against you will be as nothing,
as a nonexistent thing.
[13] For I, Yahweh your God, will hold your right hand,
saying to you, ‘Don’t be afraid.
I will help you.’
[14] Don’t be afraid, you worm Jacob,
and you men of Israel.
I will help you,” says Yahweh.
“Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
[15] Behold, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth.
You will thresh the mountains,
and beat them small,
and will make the hills like chaff.
[16] You will winnow them,
and the wind will carry them away,
and the whirlwind will scatter them.
You will rejoice in Yahweh.
You will glory in the Holy One of Israel. [17] The poor and needy seek water, and there is none.
Their tongue fails for thirst.
I, Yahweh, will answer them.
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
[18] I will open rivers on the bare heights,
and springs in the middle of the valleys.
I will make the wilderness a pool of water,
and the dry land springs of water.
[19] I will put cedar, acacia, myrtle, and oil trees in the wilderness.
I will set cypress trees, pine, and box trees together in the desert;
[20] that they may see, know, consider, and understand together,
that Yahweh’s hand has done this,
and the Holy One of Israel has created it. [21] Produce your cause,” says Yahweh.
“Bring out your strong reasons!” says the King of Jacob.
[22] “Let them announce and declare to us what will happen!
Declare the former things, what they are,
that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them;
or show us things to come.
[23] Declare the things that are to come hereafter,
that we may know that you are gods.
Yes, do good, or do evil,
that we may be dismayed,
and see it together.
[24] Behold, you are nothing,
and your work is nothing.
He who chooses you is an abomination. [25] “I have raised up one from the north, and he has come,
from the rising of the sun, one who calls on my name,
and he shall come on rulers as on mortar,
and as the potter treads clay.
[26] Who has declared it from the beginning, that we may know?
and before, that we may say, ‘He is right’?
Surely, there is no one who declares.
Surely, there is no one who shows.
Surely, there is no one who hears your words.
[27] I am the first to say to Zion, ‘Behold, look at them;’
and I will give one who brings good news to Jerusalem.
[28] When I look, there is no man,
even among them there is no counselor who, when I ask, can answer a word.
[29] Behold, all of their deeds are vanity and nothing.
Their molten images are wind and confusion.
and let the peoples renew their strength.
Let them come near,
then let them speak.
Let’s meet together for judgment.

King James Version
[1] Keep silenceH2790(HiphImpv) before me, O islands;H339 and let the peopleH3816 renewH2498(HiphImpf) [their] strength:H3581 let them come near;H5066(QalImpf) then let them speak:H1696(PielImpf) let us come nearH7126(QalImpf) togetherH3162 to judgment.H4941 [2] Who raised upH5782(HiphPerf) the righteousH6664 [man] from the east,H4217 calledH7121(QalImpf) him to his foot,H7272 gaveH5414(QalImpf) the nationsH1471 beforeH6440 him, and made [him] ruleH7287(HiphImpf) over kings?H4428 he gaveH5414(QalImpf) [them] as the dustH6083 to his sword,H2719 [and] as drivenH5086(NiphPtc) stubbleH7179 to his bow.H7198 [3] He pursuedH7291(QalImpf) them, [and] passedH5674(QalImpf) safely;H7965 [even] by the wayH734 [that] he had not goneH935(QalImpf) with his feet.H7272 [4] Who hath wroughtH6466(QalPerf) and doneH6213(QalPerf) [it], callingH7121(QalActPtc) the generationsH1755 from the beginning?H7218 I the Lord,H3068 the first,H7223 and with the last;H314 I [am] he. [5] The islesH339 sawH7200(QalPerf) [it], and feared;H3372(QalImpf) the endsH7098 of the earthH776 were afraid,H2729(QalImpf) drew near,H7126(QalPerf) and came.H857(QalImpf) [6] They helpedH5826(QalImpf) every oneH376 his neighbour;H7453 and [every one] saidH559(QalImpf) to his brother,H251 Be of good courage.H2388(QalImpv) [7] So the carpenterH2796 encouragedH2388(PielImpf) the goldsmith,H6884(QalActPtc) [and] he that smoothethH2505(HiphPtc) [with] the hammerH6360 him that smoteH1986(QalActPtc) the anvil,H6471 saying,H559(QalActPtc) It [is] readyH2896 for the sodering:H1694 and he fastenedH2388(PielImpf) it with nails,H4548 [that] it should not be moved.H4131(NiphImpf) [8] But thou, Israel,H3478 [art] my servant,H5650 JacobH3290 whom I have chosen,H977(QalPerf) the seedH2233 of AbrahamH85 my friend.H157(QalActPtc) [9] [Thou] whom I have takenH2388(HiphPerf) from the endsH7098 of the earth,H776 and calledH7121(QalPerf) thee from the chief menH678 thereof, and saidH559(QalImpf) unto thee, Thou [art] my servant;H5650 I have chosenH977(QalPerf) thee, and not cast thee away.H3988(QalPerf) [10] FearH3372(QalImpf) thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed;H8159(HithImpf) for I [am] thy God:H430 I will strengthenH553(PielPerf) thee; yea, I will helpH5826(QalPerf) thee; yea, I will upholdH8551(QalPerf) thee with the right handH3225 of my righteousness.H6664 [11] Behold, all they that were incensedH2734(NiphPtc) against thee shall be ashamedH954(QalImpf) and confounded:H3637(NiphImpf) they shall be as nothing; and theyH582 that striveH7379 with thee shall perish.H6(QalImpf) [12] Thou shalt seekH1245(PielImpf) them, and shalt not findH4672(QalImpf) them, [even] themH582 that contendedH4695 with thee: they that warH4421 against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.H657 [13] For I the LordH3068 thy GodH430 will holdH2388(HiphPtc) thy right hand,H3225 sayingH559(QalActPtc) unto thee, FearH3372(QalImpf) not; I will helpH5826(QalPerf) thee. [14] FearH3372(QalImpf) not, thou wormH8438 Jacob,H3290 [and] ye menH4962 of Israel;H3478 I will helpH5826(QalPerf) thee, saithH5002(QalPasPtc) the Lord,H3068 and thy redeemer,H1350(QalActPtc) the Holy OneH6918 of Israel.H3478 [15] Behold, I will makeH7760(QalPerf) thee a newH2319 sharpH2742 threshingH4173 instrument havingH1167 teeth:H6374 thou shalt threshH1758(QalImpf) the mountains,H2022 and beat [them] small,H1854(QalImpf) and shalt makeH7760(QalImpf) the hillsH1389 as chaff.H4671 [16] Thou shalt fanH2219(QalImpf) them, and the windH7307 shall carry them away,H5375(QalImpf) and the whirlwindH5591 shall scatterH6327(HiphImpf) them: and thou shalt rejoiceH1523(QalImpf) in the Lord,H3068 [and] shalt gloryH1984(HithImpf) in the Holy OneH6918 of Israel.H3478 [17] [When] the poorH6041 and needyH34 seekH1245(PielPtc) water,H4325 and [there is] none, [and] their tongueH3956 failethH5405(QalPerf) for thirst,H6772 I the LordH3068 will hearH6030(QalImpf) them, I the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 will not forsakeH5800(QalImpf) them. [18] I will openH6605(QalImpf) riversH5104 in high places,H8205 and fountainsH4599 in the midstH8432 of the valleys:H1237 I will makeH7760(QalImpf) the wildernessH4057 a poolH98 of water,H4325 and the dryH6723 landH776 springsH4161 of water.H4325 [19] I will plantH5414(QalImpf) in the wildernessH4057 the cedar,H730 the shittah tree,H7848 and the myrtle,H1918 and the oilH8081 tree;H6086 I will setH7760(QalImpf) in the desertH6160 the fir tree,H1265 [and] the pine,H8410 and the box treeH8391 together:H3162 [20] That they may see,H7200(QalImpf) and know,H3045(QalImpf) and consider,H7760(QalImpf) and understandH7919(HiphImpf) together,H3162 that the handH3027 of the LordH3068 hath doneH6213(QalPerf) this, and the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 hath createdH1254(QalPerf) it. [21] ProduceH7126(PielImpv) your cause,H7379 saithH559(QalImpf) the Lord;H3068 bring forthH5066(HiphImpv) your strongH6110 [reasons], saithH559(QalImpf) the KingH4428 of Jacob.H3290 [22] Let them bring [them] forth,H5066(HiphImpf) and shewH5046(HiphImpf) us what shall happen:H7136(QalImpf) let them shewH5046(HiphImpv) the former things,H7223 what they [be], that we may considerH7760(QalImpf) them, and knowH3045(QalImpf) the latter endH319 of them; or declareH8085(HiphImpv) us things for to come.H935(QalActPtc) [23] ShewH5046(HiphImpv) the things that are to comeH857(QalActPtc) hereafter,H268 that we may knowH3045(QalImpf) that ye [are] gods:H430 yea, do good,H3190(HiphImpf) or do evil,H7489(HiphImpf) that we may be dismayed,H8159(HithImpf) and beholdH7200(QalImpf) [it] together.H3162 [24] Behold, ye [are] of nothing,H369 and your workH6467 of nought:H659 an abominationH8441 [is he that] choosethH977(QalImpf) you. [25] I have raised upH5782(HiphPerf) [one] from the north,H6828 and he shall come:H857(QalImpf) from the risingH4217 of the sunH8121 shall he callH7121(QalImpf) upon my name:H8034 and he shall comeH935(QalImpf) upon princesH5461 as [upon] morter,H2563 and as the potterH3335(QalActPtc) treadethH7429(QalImpf) clay.H2916 [26] Who hath declaredH5046(HiphPerf) from the beginning,H7218 that we may know?H3045(QalImpf) and beforetime,H6440 that we may say,H559(QalImpf) [He is] righteous?H6662 yea, [there is] none that sheweth,H5046(HiphPtc) yea, [there is] none that declareth,H8085(HiphPtc) yea, [there is] none that hearethH8085(QalActPtc) your words.H561 [27] The firstH7223 [shall say] to Zion,H6726 Behold,H2009 beholdH2009 them: and I will giveH5414(QalImpf) to JerusalemH3389 one that bringeth good tidings.H1319(PielPtc) [28] For I beheld,H7200(QalImpf) and [there was] no man;H376 even among them, and [there was] no counsellor,H3289(QalActPtc) that, when I askedH7592(QalImpf) of them, could answerH7725(HiphImpf) a word.H1697 [29] Behold, they [are] all vanity;H205 their worksH4639 [are] nothing:H657 their molten imagesH5262 [are] windH7307 and confusion.H8414
