[1] “Hear this, house of Jacob,
you who are called by the name of Israel,
and have come out of the waters of Judah.
You swear by Yahweh’s name,
and make mention of the God of Israel,
but not in truth, nor in righteousness—
[2] for they call themselves citizens of the holy city,
and rely on the God of Israel;
Yahweh of Armies is his name.
[3] I have declared the former things from of old.
Yes, they went out of my mouth, and I revealed them.
I did them suddenly, and they happened.
[4] Because I knew that you are obstinate,
and your neck is an iron sinew,
and your brow bronze;
[5] therefore I have declared it to you from of old;
before it came to pass I showed it to you;
lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them.
My engraved image and my molten image has commanded them.’
[6] You have heard it.
Now see all this.
And you, won’t you declare it?“I have shown you new things from this time,
even hidden things, which you have not known.
[7] They are created now, and not from of old.
Before today, you didn’t hear them,
lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’
[8] Yes, you didn’t hear.
Yes, you didn’t know.
Yes, from of old your ear was not opened,
for I knew that you dealt very treacherously,
and were called a transgressor from the womb.
[9] For my name’s sake, I will defer my anger,
and for my praise, I hold it back for you
so that I don’t cut you off.
[10] Behold, I have refined you,
but not as silver.
I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
[11] For my own sake,
for my own sake, I will do it;
for how would my name be profaned?
I will not give my glory to another.
[12] “Listen to me, O Jacob,
and Israel my called:
I am he.
I am the first.
I am also the last.
[13] Yes, my hand has laid the foundation of the earth,
and my right hand has spread out the heavens.
when I call to them, they stand up together.
[14] “Assemble yourselves, all of you, and hear!
Who among them has declared these things?
He whom Yahweh loves will do what he likes to Babylon,
and his arm will be against the Chaldeans.
[15] I, even I, have spoken.
Yes, I have called him.
I have brought him
and he shall make his way prosperous.
[16] “Come near to me and hear this:“From the beginning I have not spoken in secret;
from the time that it happened, I was there.”Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me
with his Spirit.
[17] Yahweh,
your Redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel, says:
“I am Yahweh your God,
who teaches you to profit,
who leads you by the way that you should go.
[18] Oh that you had listened to my commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river
and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
[19] Your offspring also would have been as the sand
and the descendants of your body like its grains.
His name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.”
[20] Leave Babylon!
Flee from the Chaldeans!
With the sound of joyful shouting announce this,
tell it even to the end of the earth;
say, “Yahweh has redeemed his servant Jacob!”
[21] They didn’t thirst when he led them through the deserts.
He caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them.
He also split the rock and the waters gushed out.
[22] “There is no peace”, says Yahweh, “for the wicked.”
King James Version
[1] HearH8085(QalImpv) ye this, O houseH1004 of Jacob,H3290 which are calledH7121(NiphPtc) by the nameH8034 of Israel,H3478 and are come forthH3318(QalPerf) out of the watersH4325 of Judah,H3063 which swearH7650(NiphPtc) by the nameH8034 of the Lord,H3068 and make mentionH2142(HiphImpf) of the GodH430 of Israel,H3478 [but] not in truth,H571 nor in righteousness.H6666 [2] For they callH7121(NiphPerf) themselves of the holyH6944 city,H5892 and stayH5564(NiphPerf) themselves upon the GodH430 of Israel;H3478 The LordH3068 of hostsH6635 [is] his name.H8034 [3] I have declaredH5046(HiphPerf) the former thingsH7223 from the beginning;H227 and they went forthH3318(QalPerf) out of my mouth,H6310 and I shewedH8085(HiphImpf) them; I didH6213(QalPerf) [them] suddenly,H6597 and they came to pass.H935(QalImpf) [4] Because I knewH1847 that thou [art] obstinate,H7186 and thy neckH6203 [is] an ironH1270 sinew,H1517 and thy browH4696 brass;H5154 [5] I have even from the beginningH227 declaredH5046(HiphImpf) [it] to thee; before it came to passH935(QalImpf) I shewedH8085(HiphPerf) [it] thee: lest thou shouldest say,H559(QalImpf) Mine idolH6090 hath doneH6213(QalPerf) them, and my graven image,H6459 and my molten image,H5262 hath commandedH6680(PielPerf) them. [6] Thou hast heard,H8085(QalPerf) seeH2372(QalImpv) all this; and will not ye declareH5046(HiphImpf) [it]? I have shewedH8085(HiphPerf) thee new thingsH2319 from this time,H6258 even hidden things,H5341(QalPasPtc) and thou didst not knowH3045(QalPerf) them. [7] They are createdH1254(NiphPerf) now, and not from the beginning; even beforeH6440 the dayH3117 when thou heardestH8085(QalPerf) them not; lest thou shouldest say,H559(QalImpf) Behold, I knewH3045(QalPerf) them. [8] Yea, thou heardestH8085(QalPerf) not; yea, thou knewestH3045(QalPerf) not; yea, from that time [that] thine earH241 was not opened:H6605(PielPerf) for I knewH3045(QalPerf) that thou wouldest deal veryH898(QalInf) treacherously,H898(QalImpf) and wast calledH7121(PualPerf) a transgressorH6586(QalActPtc) from the womb.H990 [9] For my name’sH8034 sake will I deferH748(HiphImpf) mine anger,H639 and for my praiseH8416 will I refrainH2413(QalImpf) for thee, that I cut thee not off.H3772(HiphInf) [10] Behold, I have refinedH6884(QalPerf) thee, but not with silver;H3701 I have chosenH977(QalPerf) thee in the furnaceH3564 of affliction.H6040 [11] For mine own sake, [even] for mine own sake, will I doH6213(QalImpf) [it]: for how should [my name] be polluted?H2490(NiphImpf) and I will not giveH5414(QalImpf) my gloryH3519 unto another.H312 [12] HearkenH8085(QalImpv) unto me, O JacobH3290 and Israel,H3478 my called;H7121(PualPtc) I [am] he; I [am] the first,H7223 I also [am] the last.H314 [13] Mine handH3027 also hath laid the foundationH3245(QalPerf) of the earth,H776 and my right handH3225 hath spannedH2946(PielPerf) the heavens:H8064 [when] I callH7121(QalActPtc) unto them, they stand upH5975(QalImpf) together.H3162 [14] All ye, assembleH6908(NiphImpv) yourselves, and hear;H8085(QalImpv) which among them hath declaredH5046(HiphPerf) these [things]? The LordH3068 hath lovedH157(QalPerf) him: he will doH6213(QalImpf) his pleasureH2656 on Babylon,H894 and his armH2220 [shall be on] the Chaldeans.H3778 [15] I, [even] I, have spoken;H1696(PielPerf) yea, I have calledH7121(QalPerf) him: I have broughtH935(HiphPerf) him, and he shall make his wayH1870 prosperous.H6743(HiphPerf) [16] ComeH7126(QalImpv) ye nearH7126(QalImpv) unto me, hearH8085(QalImpv) ye this; I have not spokenH1696(PielPerf) in secretH5643 from the beginning;H7218 from the timeH6256 that it was, there [am] I: and now the LordH136 God,H3069 and his Spirit,H7307 hath sentH7971(QalPerf) me. [17] Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 thy Redeemer,H1350(QalActPtc) the Holy OneH6918 of Israel;H3478 I [am] the LordH3068 thy GodH430 which teachethH3925(PielPtc) thee to profit,H3276(HiphInf) which leadethH1869(HiphPtc) thee by the wayH1870 [that] thou shouldest go.H3212(QalImpf) [18] O thatH3863 thou hadst hearkenedH7181(HiphPerf) to my commandments!H4687 then had thy peaceH7965 been as a river,H5104 and thy righteousnessH6666 as the wavesH1530 of the sea:H3220 [19] Thy seedH2233 also had been as the sand,H2344 and the offspringH6631 of thy bowelsH4578 like the gravelH4579 thereof; his nameH8034 should not have been cut offH3772(NiphImpf) nor destroyedH8045(NiphImpf) from beforeH6440 me. [20] Go ye forthH3318(QalImpv) of Babylon,H894 fleeH1272(QalImpv) ye from the Chaldeans,H3778 with a voiceH6963 of singingH7440 declareH5046(HiphImpv) ye, tellH8085(HiphImpv) this, utterH3318(HiphImpv) it [even] to the endH7097 of the earth;H776 sayH559(QalImpv) ye, The LordH3068 hath redeemedH1350(QalPerf) his servantH5650 Jacob.H3290 [21] And they thirstedH6770(QalPerf) not [when] he ledH3212(HiphPerf) them through the deserts:H2723 he caused the watersH4325 to flowH5140(HiphPerf) out of the rockH6697 for them: he claveH1234(QalImpf) the rockH6697 also, and the watersH4325 gushed out.H2100(QalImpf) [22] [There is] no peace,H7965 saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 unto the wicked.H7563
