[1] Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help,
and rely on horses,
and trust in chariots because they are many,
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but they don’t look to the Holy One of Israel,
and they don’t seek Yahweh!
[2] Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster,
and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers,
and against the help of those who work iniquity.
[3] Now the Egyptians are men, and not God;
and their horses flesh, and not spirit.
When Yahweh stretches out his hand, both he who helps shall stumble,
and he who is helped shall fall,
and they all shall be consumed together. [4] For Yahweh says to me,
“As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey,
if a multitude of shepherds is called together against him,
will not be dismayed at their voice,
nor abase himself for their noise,
so Yahweh of Armies will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its heights.
[5] As birds hovering, so Yahweh of Armies will protect Jerusalem.
He will protect and deliver it.
He will pass over and preserve it.”
[6] Return to him from whom you have deeply revolted, children of Israel. [7] For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin which your own hands have made for you. [8] “The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man;
and the sword, not of mankind, shall devour him.
He will flee from the sword,
and his young men will become subject to forced labor.
[9] His rock will pass away by reason of terror,
and his princes will be afraid of the banner,”
says Yahweh, whose fire is in Zion,
and his furnace in Jerusalem.

[1] WoeH1945 to them that go downH3381(QalActPtc) to EgyptH4714 for help;H5833 and stayH8172(NiphImpf) on horses,H5483 and trustH982(QalImpf) in chariots,H7393 because [they are] many;H7227 and in horsemen,H6571 because they are veryH3966 strong;H6105(QalPerf) but they lookH8159(QalPerf) not unto the Holy OneH6918 of Israel,H3478 neither seekH1875(QalPerf) the Lord!H3068 [2] Yet he also [is] wise,H2450 and will bringH935(HiphImpf) evil,H7451 and will not call backH5493(HiphPerf) his words:H1697 but will ariseH6965(QalPerf) against the houseH1004 of the evildoers,H7489(HiphPtc) and against the helpH5833 of them that workH6466(QalActPtc) iniquity.H205 [3] Now the EgyptiansH4714 [are] men,H120 and not God;H410 and their horsesH5483 flesh,H1320 and not spirit.H7307 When the LordH3068 shall stretch outH5186(HiphImpf) his hand,H3027 both he that helpethH5826(QalActPtc) shall fall,H3782(QalPerf) and he that is holpenH5826(QalPasPtc) shall fall down,H5307(QalPerf) and they all shall failH3615(QalImpf) together.H3162 [4] For thus hath the LordH3068 spokenH559(QalPerf) unto me, Like as the lionH738 and the young lionH3715 roaringH1897(QalImpf) on his prey,H2964 when a multitudeH4393 of shepherdsH7462(QalActPtc) is called forthH7121(NiphImpf) against him, [he] will not be afraidH2865(NiphImpf) of their voice,H6963 nor abaseH6031(QalImpf) himself for the noiseH1995 of them: so shall the LordH3068 of hostsH6635 come downH3381(QalImpf) to fightH6633(QalInf) for mountH2022 Zion,H6726 and for the hillH1389 thereof. [5] As birdsH6833 flying,H5774(QalActPtc) so will the LordH3068 of hostsH6635 defendH1598(HiphImpf) Jerusalem;H3389 defendingH1598(QalInf) also he will deliverH5337(HiphPerf) [it; and] passing overH6452(QalInf) he will preserveH4422(HiphPerf) it. [6] TurnH7725(QalImpv) ye unto [him from] whom the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 have deeplyH6009(HiphPerf) revolted.H5627 [7] For in that dayH3117 every manH376 shall cast awayH3988(QalImpf) his idolsH457 of silver,H3701 and his idolsH457 of gold,H2091 which your own handsH3027 have madeH6213(QalPerf) unto you [for] a sin.H2399 [8] Then shall the AssyrianH804 fallH5307(QalPerf) with the sword,H2719 not of a mighty man;H376 and the sword,H2719 not of a mean man,H120 shall devourH398(QalImpf) him: but he shall fleeH5127(QalPerf) fromH6440 the sword,H2719 and his young menH970 shall be discomfited.H4522 [9] And he shall pass overH5674(QalImpf) to his strong holdH5553 for fear,H4032 and his princesH8269 shall be afraidH2865(QalPerf) of the ensign,H5251 saithH5002(QalPasPtc) the Lord,H3068 whose fireH217 [is] in Zion,H6726 and his furnaceH8574 in Jerusalem.H3389
