For the Chief Musician; set to “The Doe of the Morning.” A Psalm by David.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
[2] My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don’t answer;
in the night season, and am not silent.
[3] But you are holy,
you who inhabit the praises of Israel.
[4] Our fathers trusted in you.
They trusted, and you delivered them.
[5] They cried to you, and were delivered.
They trusted in you, and were not disappointed.
[6] But I am a worm, and no man;
a reproach of men, and despised by the people.
[7] All those who see me mock me.
They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,
[8] “He trusts in Yahweh.
Let him deliver him.
Let him rescue him, since he delights in him.”
[9] But you brought me out of the womb.
You made me trust while at my mother’s breasts.
[10] I was thrown on you from my mother’s womb.
You are my God since my mother bore me.
[11] Don’t be far from me, for trouble is near.
For there is no one to help.
[12] Many bulls have surrounded me.
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
[13] They open their mouths wide against me,
lions tearing prey and roaring.
[14] I am poured out like water.
All my bones are out of joint.
My heart is like wax.
It is melted within me.
[15] My strength is dried up like a potsherd.
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You have brought me into the dust of death.
[16] For dogs have surrounded me.
A company of evildoers have enclosed me.
They have pierced my hands and feet.
[17] I can count all of my bones.
They look and stare at me.
[18] They divide my garments among them.
They cast lots for my clothing.
[19] But don’t be far off, Yahweh.
You are my help. Hurry to help me!
[20] Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dog.
[21] Save me from the lion’s mouth!
Yes, you have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen.
[22] I will declare your name to my brothers.
Among the assembly, I will praise you.
[23] You who fear Yahweh, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him!
Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Israel!
[24] For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted,
neither has he hidden his face from him;
but when he cried to him, he heard.
[25] My praise of you comes in the great assembly.
I will pay my vows before those who fear him.
[26] The humble shall eat and be satisfied.
They shall praise Yahweh who seek after him.
Let your hearts live forever.
[27] All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to Yahweh.
All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.
[28] For the kingdom is Yahweh’s.
He is the ruler over the nations.
[29] All the rich ones of the earth shall eat and worship.
All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him,
even he who can’t keep his soul alive.
[30] Posterity shall serve him.
Future generations shall be told about the Lord.
[31] They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born,
for he has done it.

To the chief MusicianH5329(PielPtc) upon AijelethH365 Shahar,H7837 A PsalmH4210 of David.H1732

My God,H410 my God,H410 why hast thou forsakenH5800(QalPerf) me? [why art thou so] farH7350 from helpingH3444 me, [and from] the wordsH1697 of my roaring?H7581
[2] O my God,H430 I cryH7121(QalImpf) in the daytime,H3119 but thou hearestH6030(QalImpf) not; and in the night season,H3915 and am not silent.H1747 [3] But thou [art] holy,H6918 [O thou] that inhabitestH3427(QalActPtc) the praisesH8416 of Israel.H3478 [4] Our fathersH1 trustedH982(QalPerf) in thee: they trusted,H982(QalPerf) and thou didst deliverH6403(PielImpf) them. [5] They criedH2199(QalPerf) unto thee, and were delivered:H4422(NiphPerf) they trustedH982(QalPerf) in thee, and were not confounded.H954(QalPerf) [6] But I [am] a worm,H8438 and no man;H376 a reproachH2781 of men,H120 and despisedH959(QalPasPtc) of the people.H5971 [7] All they that seeH7200(QalActPtc) me laugh me to scorn:H3932(HiphImpf) they shoot outH6358(HiphImpf) the lip,H8193 they shakeH5128(HiphImpf) the head,H7218 [saying], [8] He trustedH1556(QalInf) on the LordH3068 [that] he would deliverH6403(PielImpf) him: let him deliverH5337(HiphImpf) him, seeing he delightedH2654(QalPerf) in him. [9] But thou [art] he that tookH1518(QalPtc) me out of the womb:H990 thou didst make me hopeH982(HiphPtc) [when I was] upon my mother’sH517 breasts.H7699 [10] I was castH7993(HophPerf) upon thee from the womb:H7358 thou [art] my GodH410 from my mother’sH517 belly.H990 [11] Be not farH7368(QalImpf) from me; for troubleH6869 [is] near;H7138 for [there is] none to help.H5826(QalActPtc) [12] ManyH7227 bullsH6499 have compassedH5437(QalPerf) me: strongH47 [bulls] of BashanH1316 have beset me round.H3803(PielPerf) [13] They gapedH6475(QalPerf) upon me [with] their mouths,H6310 [as] a raveningH2963(QalActPtc) and a roaringH7580(QalActPtc) lion.H738 [14] I am poured outH8210(NiphPerf) like water,H4325 and all my bonesH6106 are out of joint:H6504(HithPerf) my heartH3820 is like wax;H1749 it is meltedH4549(NiphPerf) in the midstH8432 of my bowels.H4578 [15] My strengthH3581 is dried upH3001(QalPerf) like a potsherd;H2789 and my tongueH3956 cleavethH1692(HophPtc) to my jaws;H4455 and thou hast broughtH8239(QalImpf) me into the dustH6083 of death.H4194 [16] For dogsH3611 have compassedH5437(QalPerf) me: the assemblyH5712 of the wickedH7489(HiphPtc) have inclosedH5362(HiphPerf) me: they piercedH3738(QalPerf/Qere) my handsH3027 and my feet.H7272 [17] I may tellH5608(PielImpf) all my bones:H6106 they lookH5027(HiphImpf) [and] stareH7200(QalImpf) upon me. [18] They partH2505(PielImpf) my garmentsH899 among them, and castH5307(HiphImpf) lotsH1486 upon my vesture.H3830 [19] But be not thou farH7368(QalImpf) from me, O Lord:H3068 O my strength,H360 hasteH2363(QalImpv) thee to helpH5833 me. [20] DeliverH5337(HiphImpv) my soulH5315 from the sword;H2719 my darlingH3173 from the powerH3027 of the dog.H3611 [21] SaveH3467(HiphImpv) me from the lion’sH738 mouth:H6310 for thou hast heardH6030(QalPerf) me from the hornsH7161 of the unicorns.H7214 [22] I will declareH5608(PielImpf) thy nameH8034 unto my brethren:H251 in the midstH8432 of the congregationH6951 will I praiseH1984(PielImpf) thee. [23] Ye that fearH3373 the Lord,H3068 praiseH1984(PielImpv) him; all ye the seedH2233 of Jacob,H3290 glorifyH3513(PielImpv) him; and fearH1481(QalImpv) him, all ye the seedH2233 of Israel.H3478 [24] For he hath not despisedH959(QalPerf) nor abhorredH8262(PielPerf) the afflictionH6039 of the afflicted;H6041 neither hath he hidH5641(HiphPerf) his faceH6440 from him; but when he criedH7768(PielInf) unto him, he heard.H8085(QalPerf) [25] My praiseH8416 [shall be] of thee in the greatH7227 congregation:H6951 I will payH7999(PielImpf) my vowsH5088 before them that fearH3373 him. [26] The meekH6035 shall eatH398(QalImpf) and be satisfied:H7646(QalImpf) they shall praiseH1984(PielImpf) the LordH3068 that seekH1875(QalActPtc) him: your heartH3824 shall liveH2421(QalImpf) for ever.H5703 [27] All the endsH657 of the worldH776 shall rememberH2142(QalImpf) and turnH7725(QalImpf) unto the Lord:H3068 and all the kindredsH4940 of the nationsH1471 shall worshipH7812(HithImpf) beforeH6440 thee. [28] For the kingdomH4410 [is] the Lord’s:H3068 and he [is] the governorH4910(QalActPtc) among the nations.H1471 [29] All [they that be] fatH1879 upon earthH776 shall eatH398(QalPerf) and worship:H7812(HithImpf) all they that go downH3381(QalActPtc) to the dustH6083 shall bowH3766(QalImpf) beforeH6440 him: and none can keep aliveH2421(PielPerf) his own soul.H5315 [30] A seedH2233 shall serveH5647(QalImpf) him; it shall be accountedH5608(PualImpf) to the LordH136 for a generation.H1755 [31] They shall come,H935(QalImpf) and shall declareH5046(HiphImpf) his righteousnessH6666 unto a peopleH5971 that shall be born,H3205(NiphPtc) that he hath doneH6213(QalPerf) [this].
